ÖNSÖZ/FOREWORD

Daikin grows, targets grow!

Daikin Turkey had a process of union to complete, and a project of

structuring ahead. At the end of this hardworked and tiresome process,

we achieved perfect harmony with the Japanese and came up with a

perfectly functioning Tuerkish-Japanese hybrid system. This was the first

phase of the project, which we are properly proud of. Now, we are in the

second phase…

Daikin is literally a global giant… It has over 180 affiliate companies in

over 160 countries. The world air conditioning sector has an economic

volume of 82 billion dollars, out of which Daikin realizes 20 billion

dollars. The number of employees have exceeded 45 thousand. Daqikin

is the owner of many innovations and copyrights in its sector. In other

words, it is not only the company with the highest market share, but the

pioneer of its sector.

As we improved our profession with Daikin brand, we showed a

performance that is becoming of it. When the sector grew by 6 per

cent, we have grown by 52 per cent last year. We now own the widest

product range in the industry. We raised our turnover target even higher

to 649 million liras, as well as our goals and assertions. That is, we will

be growing by 25 per cent as the sector grows by 10 per cent, and

be the fastest growing company of our sector. Until now, we achieved

many things, and performed well. From now on, I am certain that we will

achieve even more. And I believe we will achieve them with our business

partners and employees. If we are raising our targets and setting higher

standards, this is because of our faith in you. I thank you once again for

being there on our way to success and leadership.

I believe you will share our enthusiasm as you read our following pages

about these achievements. In addition, you will enjoy many other articles

about life. We have 23 April National Independence and Children’s Day

ahead. I congratulate the fest of our dear children, who are our future.

And the 5th of June is the World Environment Day… As a pioneering

actor of environmental protocols, Daikin does its best. With the EU

20/20/20 directives compatible and up to 28 per cent annual energy

saving VRV IV, Daikin has broken a new ground. From now onwards, we

are going to keep introducing eco-sensitive products.

Daikin büyüyor, hedefler büyüyor!

Daikin Türkiye olarak tamamlamamız gereken bir birleşme sürecimiz, bir

yeniden yapılanma çalışmamız vardı. Çok çalışıp, çok yorulduğumuz bu

sürecin sonunda Japonlar ile mükemmel bir uyum yakaladık ve ortaya

Türk-Japon karması mükemmel işleyen bir sistem çıkardık. Bu, sürecin ilk

aşamasıydı. Bu ilk aşamayı başarıyla tamamlamış olmanın haklı gururunu

hep birlikte yaşıyoruz. Şimdi sürecin ikinci aşamasına geçtik…

Daikin, kelimenin tam anlamıyla bir dünya devi… Dünyada 160’dan fazla

ülkede 180’den fazla bağlı ortaklığı var. Dünya iklimlendirme sektörü 82

milyar dolar bir ekonomik hacme sahip iken, bunun 20 milyar dolarını

Daikin tek başına gerçekleştiriyor. Çalışanlarının sayısı 45 bini aşmış

durumda. Daikin, sektöründe pek çok buluşun ve onlarca patentin sahibi…

Yani sektörün sadece en çok pazar payına sahip olan markası değil,

aynı zamanda öncüsü…

Daikin markasıyla sektördeki iddiamızı artırırken, bu süreçte markamıza

yakışan bir performans gösterdik. Geçen yıl sektör yüzde 6 büyürken biz

yüzde 52 büyüdük. Sektörün en geniş ürün gamına sahip markası olduk.

Bu yıla ilişkin hedef ve iddialarımızı daha da yükselterek ciro hedefimizi

640 milyon liraya çıkardık. Yani sektör yüzde 10 büyürken biz yüzde 25

büyüme kaydedeceğiz ve bu yıl da sektörünün en hızlı büyüyen şirketi

olacağız. Bugüne kadar çok şey başardık, iyi işler çıkardık. Bugünden sonra

daha iyisini yapacağımıza ilişkin inancım tam. Bunu da siz iş ortaklarımız

ve tüm çalışanlarımızla birlikte başaracağımıza inanıyorum. Hedeflerimizi

hiç çekinmeden büyütüyorsak, çıtayı hep daha yükseğe taşıyorsak bu

sizlere duyduğumuz güven sayesindedir. Bize başarıya ve liderliğe giden

yolda destek olduğunuz için hepinize tekrar teşekkür ediyorum.

Sözünü ettiğim bu başarılara ilişkin konuların yer aldığı dergimizi okudukça,

sizin de heyecanımızı paylaşacağınızdan eminim. Bunun yanı sıra hayata

dair birçok konumuzu da keyifle okuyacaksınız. Önümüzde 23 Nisan Ulusal

Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı var. Geleceğimiz,

gözbebeğimiz çocuklarımızın bayramını kutluyorum.

5 Haziran ise Dünya Çevre Günü… Daikin çevre protokollerine ön saflarda

imza atmış bir şirket olarak, üzerine düşeni yapıyor. AB’nin 20/20/20

direktiflerine uygun olarak geliştirilen ve yıllık yüzde 28’e varan oranlarda

enerji tasarrufu sağlayan VRV IV ile Daikin, sektöründe yeni bir dönem

başlattı. Bundan sonra da çevreye duyarlı ürünlerle var olmaya devam

edeceğiz.

Graphene and Human Brain Initiatives, a.k.a. the world’s biggest study, are getting an allowance of 1 billion Euros each in order to conduct scientific and technologic researches that will shake the world to its core during a 10 year long project. Each initiative brings together scientists from a minimum of 15 EU countries and 200 research institutes. From Turkey, only Sabanci University takes part in the project.

The Turkish scientist to change the digital world is awarded the first prize. The developer of a new system that will enhance high quality visual transmission in new generation mobile phones and televisions, Bilkent University Department of Electrical-Electronics Professor Dr. Erdal r kan is awarded the greatest prize of IEEE (International Electrical and Electronics Engineers) for his invention.

The organizational assistant of the Arab Spring in the Middle East, Twitter noticed the potential in the region and started advertising services around the Middle East and North Africa. Today, digital advertising has about 4 per cent of the total advertisingg expenses, which reached to 8 per cent of the population in countries with a dense young population. The company had started advertising in Turkey in February. In other words, those that would pay 10 thousand dollars are able to become Twitter trend topic.

-The Electrical-Electronics Engineering student Sajjad Yaghoubi from stanbul Ayd n University Faculty of Engineering and Architecture is awarded for his project. Applied to human body through non-invasive methods, the head gear regulates the blood flow in capillary vessels in the brain by stimulating the nervous system, thus enables a better functioning of the organs and eliminates headache.

Lenovo introduced the world’s biggest tablet computer. Named as “The Tablet Laptop”, the device is tremendous in size. With its 68,5 cm width, the computer is pretty large. The giant tablet is expected to hit the market at 1699 USD. The device, which is claimed by the producer to bring the fam ly together, is working on Windows 8 Pro operating system.

The world’s smallest Full HD camera EGO transfers the images shot with its WiFi technology momentarily into computers or tablets. The price of EGO is 179 dollars. Produced by the Indian LIC company, the device is also self-charging. The battery that comes with the device has 10 years guarantee, however it is still questioned as the company is not known for any device other than EGO.

Alcatel launches the world’s thinnest phone to the market. One Touch Idol Ultra is ac-cepted as the world’s thinnest smart phone with its 6.45 mm design. Furthermore, One Touch Idol Ultra is also the lightest smart phone in its category with a weight of 110

grams. For such thinness, microSD card slot and 3.5 mm heaphone inlet had to be renounced. To be able to use a headphone, a microUSB to 3.5 mm converter is needed.

Far Eastern companies prove they can design too, and not just copy cat. Chinese Vivo introduced world’s smallest navigator. Despite a size of 3 centimeters, the device can also send messages. With the look of a watch, it is designed for families that worry about the wellbeing of their children. The fact that about 5 thousand children go missing each year in the USA supposedly motivated the engineers for such a design.

For a better study of atomic structure, Afyon Kocatepe University (AKÜ) academicians and alumni constructed two “electron energy analysers”, each of which cost over 100 thousand dollars, at an expense of 15 thousand liras. Prof. Dr. Mevl t Do an from AKÜ Scienti c Institute Manager and the Head of Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science and Humanities said: “The electron energy analyser costed over 100 thousand dollars. We obtained both for 15 thousand liras and three times higher resolution than its counterparts.”

USB data transfer will double its speed thanks to a new system named SuperSpeed USB. With a modification on USB 3.0, 10 gigabytes of data is aimed to be transfered in a second. With SuperSpeed USB, the device contents will be accessed without scan preview when 1 terrabyte external memory is connected. The new USB standard requires less energy and is estimated to be launched by the end of this year.

Koç University developed artificial skin and bones with the support of TÜB TAK. Prof. Dr. smail Lazo lu from Koç University Department of Mechanical Engineering said: “We can take a 3D topography of the lesion and reproduce an exact 3D texture skeleton.” Thanks to the study, skin lesions and bone fractures can be no longer a problem in the near future.

Rapidly growing in the competition with iPhone and Samsung, HTC intro-duced the new M7 in the USA technol-ogy fair. The phone is expected to be launched with 7 inches of size and 1080p resolution, and to have a quad-core processor operating on 1.7GHz. M7 will be launched in Turkey in April at circa 800 TRY sales price. Attact-ing with its wide screen, the telephone has a battery which lasts 3 days even when using 4G.

The iPhone 5 which was launched by Apple’s present CEO Tim Cook, who took ove the reign of Steve Jobs, was met with serious criticism. Whereas Apple TV, which was said to be “absolutely unproductable” by Steve Jobs himself, was also launched by Cook, and was literally “teased” by customers. Nowadays, the company is after economic gadget production. Having lost their stock value, the company advertised news of new gadget production in the last five months. It is up to you to decide, what is Apple’s

intention? In other words, “Where is Apple headed?”

Not long after the recent rumours on cheap iPhone, the company patented an entirely plastic telephone. When it comes to details, the patented mobile phone does not constitute a home buton. Made entirely of plastic, the gadget incorporates a couple of cameras, on the

front and the rear. It is also claimed that the body is adorned with light isolation.

Formerly announced by Apple, the 18 GB iPad hit the market in late January. For the first time ever, Apple dounled the highest storage unit of 64 GB, which has been used in iPhone’s and iPad’s until recently. The company applied for the patent of a product which stands very far off mobile phones. The electronic giant made the first move to produce smart sneakers with installed sensors. These shoes, which Apple applied for a license, will have undisturbing kinetic sensors which will be unseen by outsiders. Thanks to their comfortable smart shoes, users will know how much they move and will be able to calculate the lifetime of their sneakers.

In December, iTunes opened up to the Turkish market. For those who had already bought Apple TV, the gadget only served the function

of transferring the iPad image to television; but starting with January 2013, it now enables watching a selection of movies from the shop (iTunes). You now have the chance to watch a number

Apple now has the patent after long years of struggle: ‘the rectangular iPad with round corners’. The form which has been fought for by Apple since long is defined as “a decorative design for a portable gadget” by the US Patent and Trademark Office. The patent will give a hard time to other producers, with such minute details, for instance: any time when a gadget has this form on the main screen, the circumference of the rearside, the form of the screen frame,

the side profile or a full screen, it will be considered an intrusion into the Apple patent. This patent of Apple has a vast coverage

beyond imagination. From onwards, regardless of their sizes, all rectangular gadgers with round corners can be impeded by the Apple obstacle.

The confines of the patent is so vast that about 90 per cent of present tablets can be charged as Apple plagiarism. The potential cases because of this patent will give a hard time to the industry and pause serious problems to small producers.

Daikin proved its profession through its products and

brands by taking part in the heating section of the ISH Frankfurt 2013 Fair, which is the gathering venue of the latest products, technologies and solutions in the heating, cooling and air conditioning industry. Organized biennially since 1960, ISF Frankfurt welcomed Daikin for the first time in the heating hall, where it attracted great interest of visitors with its products and a booth of 500 squaremeters.At ISH Fair, which is

closely followed by the sector professionals and provides basis for new collaborations, Daikin drew interest by many particular and innovative solutions designed for different needs. At ISH Frankfurt 2013, which was participated this year by over 2500 participants from 55 countries and visited by almost 250 thousand people, Daikin promoted the proficiency and power of its three brands at its 500 squaremeter booth. AUTO BUCKLED SEAT BELTSeat belts that are automatically buckled up are not new technological advances. In fact, they are taken out of circu-lation for safety reasons. But many automobile brands are still working on it. The very first seat belt was invented by Gustave Liebau in 1903. In 1953, the Science Union in Colo-rado-USA declared a statement for the two-point seat belts to be included in all cars. Still though, wearing a seat belt is unpleasant for many passengers. The idea of automatic seat belt was genial, but was prohibited with the 1991 In-termodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Pact in the USA. With the pact, all vehicles are imposed the obligation to incorporate air bags in their front seats.

Gluten is a sticky form of protein present in wheat,

barley, rye and oat. It is also used as thickener in the making of numerous food products. There are quite a number of people who suffer from allergies or a sickness called as ‘celiac’. Celiac is a food allergy which effects the small-bowel. And celiac patients have to keep away from gluten for a lifetime, which means they cannot enjoy bread, cakes, pies, cookies, pizza or pasta. Such a list of prohibited food including bread, pie or pasta should be ideal for fitness, isn’t it? It is certainly not that simple. For celiac patients,

eating a slice of bread is like drinking a glass of bleach. In other words, gluten has a poisoning effect. They have to deny themselves a bite of cake, as it would result in swelling, diarrhea and hours of bowel pain. Whereas long term gluten consumption causes

inflammation on the internal layer of small-bowel. And the so-called villi, which are present in the intestine cell surfaces and responsible for absorbtion, fail to absorb the food to mix with blood, as a result of this inflammation. What is waiting for the celiac

patients who cannot get vitamins or minerals through food is usually colon cancer. So, celiac patients have no choice but abide by the “gluten diet”.

It is not always that easy for celiac patients to follow this diet, which they have to accept as their lifestyle. In a land like ours, where bread and pastries are very popular, they face a great level of difficulty eating their fill. Daikin Turkey staff started the new season relaxing and enjoying themselves in the meetings at Güral Sapanca Spa Hotel on

4-6 January and 11-13 January. Following the meetings where 2013 targets were discussed, the employees are now ready to

exceed limits again this year. Having made a sound entrance into the Turkish market and closed the year 2012 with 520 million

TRY turnover and 52 per cent growth, Daikin celebrated its success with the participation of 600 employees from production

facilities, central office and regional directorates. The staff enjoyed their time through activities and relaxed in the heart of the

nature, and gained energy for the new goals. Having announced the 2013 turnover target as 640 million TRY, Daikin Turkey CEO

In Turkey, we started communicating the theme

of Seasonal Efficiency, pioneered by Daikin and

enacted by the European Union by 2013. As this

is an issue of utter importance to be fully acknowledged by our own staff,

we held “Air Conditioning/Inverter Cooling and Seasonal Efficiency” trainings

which were given by our Marketing Manager Uğur Sertan for our Kartal Center

employees on 24 January. The sessions took place on 16.30 and 17.30.

araya getirdik. Şu anda tüm kombi modellerimiz tek bir “kombi” broşüründe; radyatör, vana ve havlupan ürünlerimiz “radyatör”

broşüründe ve tüm klima modellerimiz ise toplu olarak “klima” broşüründe toplandı. Türkçe basımlarının yanı sıra İngilizce, Fransızca,

Farsça ve Rusça dillerinde de çalıştığımız broşürlerimizin basımı tamamlandı. İlk olarak İstanbul VRV IV lansmanında dağıttığımız tüm

VRV modellerini içeren güncel VRV ve merkezi sistemler kataloglarımızın basımı tamamlanarak tüm bölgelerimize gönderildi.

Daikin Turkey keeps giving support to social responsibility projects. In Janu-

ary, we made a donation of 20 thousand TRY to the Turkish Heart Founda-

tion under the leadership of Daikin Turkey CEO Hasan Önder. We are dedicat-

ed to our mission of taking part in various projects and keep giving support.

We changed our booklets with the new Airfel logo, and united the formerly seperate combi boiler and radiator booklets. Now

all our combi boilers are available in a single “combi boiler” brochure; our radiators, valves and towel warmers in the “radiator”

brochure; and all our air conditioners in the “air conditioner” brochure. The brochures are available in English, French, Persian

and Russian as well as Turkish. Our up-to-date VRV and central systems catalogues, which include all VRV models and were first

distributed in the Istanbul VRV IV launch, are published and sent to all our regions.

2013 tarihleri arasında gerçekleşen geziyle bir yandan stres atarken diğer

yandan teknik bilgilerini geliştirme fırsatı buldu. Daikin’in Osaka’daki Merkez

Ofisi’ni ve Shiga Fabrikası’nı ziyaret ederek Daikin kurum ve kültürü ile üretimde-

ki gücünün kaynağını yerinde görme imkanı bulan bayiler, Daikin çalışanları ile

görüş alışverişinde bulundular. Japonya gezisine katılan bayiler, Tokyo Solutions

laşmasıyla belirlendi. Kartal Merkez çalışanlarımızdan 25 kişinin yarıştığı turnuvada finale

kalan Bireysel Sistemler Departmanımızdan Arif Ercan Dursun ve Mühendislik Sistemleri

Departmanımızdan Suat Murat Başaran’ın karşılaştığı maçta Arif Ercan Dursun galip gelerek

iPad ödülünü aldı. Ayrıca sponsor olduğumuz Daikin Bilardo Turnuvası’nda Dünya Şampiyo-

nu ile karşılaşma şansını elde etti. Kendisini tebrik ediyoruz.

The champion of the Daikin Academy Billiard Tournament is decided with the final game on 28 January. In the tournament,

25 employees from our Kartal Center competed and the final game took place between Ali Ercan Dursun from the Personal

Systems Department and Suat Murat Başalar from Engineering Systems Department. Arif Ercan Dursun won the game and won

the iPad prize. In addition, he gained the chance to play against the World Champion at Daikin Billiards Tournament sponsored

by Daikin. Congratulations!

Ten dealers that were awarded by Daikin Turkey with a trip to Japan had the chance to improve their technical skills while let-

ting off steam during the visit on 27 January-2 February 2013. The dealers seized the opportunity to witness Daikin’s corporate

culture and production power by visiting Daikin’s Osaka headquarter and the Shiga Factory, and exhanged views with the

Daikin staff. On the Japanese expedition, the dealers visited Tokyo Solutions Center and enjoyed the chance to experience the

technological supremacy, which makes Daikin the world leader. Our dealers visited a number of historical and cultural treasures

of Japan, including the Asakusa Temple, Kinkakuji Temple, Myoshinji Temple and Kiyomizu Temple, and witnessed the Japanese

culture and hospitality from closer. Daikin Turkey Vice President Takayuki Kamekawa, who accompanied the dealers on this trip

said: “We are contented with the performances of our dealers, and I hope they became contented with this expedition.” Daikin

Personal Systems Sales Manager Taner Özdoğan evaluated the trip as follows: “The expedition had been very pleasant and

efficient for us, and enhanced our friendship with our dealers. We also had the chance to witness Daikin’s trademark technolo-

gies and values through our visits to the Daikin headquarter, facilities and the Solutions Center. We will keep on being together

with our dealers on such occasions in the future.”

Bu yıl Galatasaray Daikin Bayan Voleybol Takımı’nın ev sahipliğini üstlendiği 9-10 Mart tarihlerinde gerçekleştirilen CEV Kadın Voleybol

Şampiyonlar Ligi Dörtlü Finali, voleybol severlere heyecanlı bir hafta sonu yaşattı. Dörtlü Final’in biletleri 20 Şubat tarihinde satışa

sunulurken, daha ilk haftadan 3 bin bilet satıldı. CEV Voleybol Şampiyonlar Ligi Bayanlar Dörtlü Final’ine, play off maçlarını oynamadan

katılmaya hak kazanan Galatasaray Daikin Bayan Voleybol Takımı ise, Dörtlü Final hazırlık sürecini farklı ülkelerde düzenlenen ulus-

lararası özel turnuvalar, antrenman maçları ve yoğun kamp dönemleri ile geçirdi. Avrupa’nın en iyi takımlarından dördünün kıyasıya

mücadele ettiği Final Four, Türkiye’de NTV Spor’dan canlı yayınladı. Bu yıl CEV Şampiyonlar Ligi Dörtlü Final organizasyonu adına bir ilk

Hosted this year by Galatasaray Daikin Women Volleyball Team, the CEV Women Volleyball Champions League Final Four took

place on the weekend of 9-10 March. The final four tickets went on sale on 20 February and 3000 tickets were sold in the first

week. Daikin Women Volleyball Team, which was qualified for direct participation in the CEV Volleyball Champions League

Women’s Final Four, had a busy time to prepare for Final Four in international tournaments, trainings and a heavy camp period.

The four best teams of Europe got stuck in the Final Four that was broadcasted live on NTV Spor. This year has been a first for

CEV Champions League Final Four organization and the prominent Japanese network FUJI TV brought the games on line in Japan.

In the Final Four which was realized in Istanbul with Daikin’s support, Turkish teams Galatasaray Daikin and Vakıfbank played

against the Italian Unendo Yamamay Busto Arsizio and the Azerbaijani Rabita Bacu. The winner of the tournament was the

Turkish Vakıfbank team, the first and second forerunners were the Azerbaijani and the Italian Unendo Yamamay Busto Arsizio.

görüyor. Bu spotların hemen ardından 3 saniye boyunca Daikin logolu hava

ranlardan hiç eksik olmayacağız. Bir yıl boyunca 4 film + Galatasaray filmlerini

Turk network attract great attention. Following the spots, a 3 second long weather forecast with Daikin logo appears. We are

going to be online throughout the year, and in the meantime we will shoot four films and Galatasaray films in CNN studios

without any production costs. Our first films were shot with the Galatasaray Daikin Volleyball team for the CEV event on 9-10

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism organized a

seminar on Daikin’s global and domestic position,

general information about Daikin products, sys-

tem solutions development in museums and his-

toric places for control and purchasing engineers

from 14 Turkish cities. The primary aim of the

seminar was to reinforce corporate relations and

to promote our company and products. Among a

number of applicants, the seminar included only

Daikin, which proved our sectoral leadership and

our status as the point of reference.

Eğitim ve gezi bir arada / Trained and entertained

Dikey Isı adıyla yıllarca Demirdöküm bayisi olarak Marmara Bölgesi’nde

hizmet veren Kombi Klima Shop, ısıtma sektöründe çok iyi bilinen bir

şirket. Demirdöküm bayiliğini bırakarak Kombi Klima Shop ile farklı bir

konsepte bürünen şirket, halen Auer dahil birçok markanın bayiliğini ve

satışını yapıyor. Şirket ayrıca kendilerine bağlı bir satış kanalı ile özellikle

kombi ve radyatör ısıtma ürünlerinin satışını da gerçekleştiriyor. 2012 yılı

Mayıs ayı itibariyle ise Daikin Türkiye ürün gamında bulunan Auer marka

kombi ve radyatörlerin genel distribütörü oldu. Oluşturdukları bayi ve

satış ağının Auer marka ürün satma eğilimini arttırmak için Daikin fabrika

gezisi organize edildi ve bu geziye Kombi Klima Shop ile çalışan tam 60

bayi katıldı. Daikin hakkında genel bilgilendirmenin ardından kısa bir split

klima eğitim ve hemen arkasından da detaylı bir kombi-radyatör (ısıtma)

eğitimi de verilen gezi son derece verimli geçti.

Served for years as Demirdöküm dealer in the Marmara Region under

the name Vertical Heat, Kombi Klima Shop is a well-known company

in the heating sector. Quitted Demirdöküm dealership and gained a

different concept with Kombi Klima Shop, the company currently has

the distributorship and does the sales of a number of brands includ-

ing Auer. They also sell combi boilers and radiator heating products

through a private sales channel. Since May 2012, they became the

main distributor of Auer combi boilers and radiators, which are among

Daikin Turkey’s product range. In order to promote their network’s

sales of Auer brand, a Daikin factory expedition was organized and

was participated by 60 dealers working with Kombi Klima Shop. Fol-

lowing a brief information about Daikin, a split air conditioner training

and a combi boiler-radiator (heating) training rendered the trip as

efficient as pleasant.

Dr. Nejat Eczac ba , the founder of Eczac ba Group and Istanbul Foundation of Culture and Arts ( KSV), is going to be commemorated on his 20th death anniversary by two New York Philar-mony Orchester concerts. The concerts will be sponsored by Eczac ba Holding and take place on 3-4 May by KSV. On its 41st anniversary, Akbank Children’s Theater collabo-rates with London Polka Theater, which has been realizing alternative workshops since 1979. Young audience is invited to Akbank Sanat to watch the play every Saturday at 11 am during April.
