The exhibition has taken place in Russia for the fourth year at a stretch and represents the most advanced developments of the world producers of helicopters, navigation and other equipment. It promotes to strengthen the international cooperation in the aviation industry.

The Russian part of exposition demonstrates again the models of civil and military equipment being in demand on the world market. Today, it is very important not only to maintain the achieved level of quality, but modernize the production more actively and promote development of innovations.

I consider that the present exhibition will serve to implementation of new joint projects, growth of authority and competitive domestic helicopter industry.

Welcome to opening of the 4th Helicopter Industry Exhibition. During the past century the great progress has been made in aeronautics, which became a symbol of mankind technological advancement. Aviation has essentially changed the world making relations between continents, countries and cities more friendly and intelligible. Rotary wing aircraft, which provided access to far corners of taiga, mountains, deserts, takes special place in the aviation industry and became an integral and important part of day-to-day life of peoples of various professions working in outlying districts. I know it rather well from my own experience in geophysical parties.

The Russia always played the great role in the world aviation industry. It is well known what role Russian engineers I.I. Sikorsky, M.L. Mil, N.I. Kamov and others play in the world helicopter industry. Owing to scientists, engineers, designers and workers the home helicopter industry was and remains innovative branch, which ensures output of competitive high-tech product being in good demand in our country and abroad.

The Expo is aimed at not only demonstrating the scientific and technological achievements in the home and world helicopter industry, but it can be the point propagandizing interest in these important branches of knowledge and production in the society and primarily among the young.

Exhibition arrangements carried out within the framework of the Expo will permit to use widely the advanced experience and will promote constructive and creative atmosphere and enrich participants with new ideas, knowledge and business contacts.I wish participants and sponsors of the Exhibition successful work.

In the meantime, HeliRussia has turned into a truly authoritative and prestigious event, with all of the most famous helicopter industry brand names displaying their advances this year. The exhibition is a real venue for both Russian and foreign manufacturers to unveil their latest achievements.

HeliRussia is famous for its rich business programme reflecting the developmental trends in both the Russian and global helicopter industries. The HeliRussia 2011 show signifies the beginning of the second decade of the new century. Many hopes were associated with the first ten years, and it must be said that the most important expectations came true. Helicopter making we dedicated our lives to has been again in the limelight both in Russia and in the rest of the world. The design bureaux have been reanimated, with young faces having appeared in workshops and laboratories. Certainly, many things have to be started anew, but, on the other hand, we are planning now and are looking ahead with ever increasing confidence.

I am certain that the 4th International Helicopter Industry Exhibition as a symbol of the coming decade will open a new chapter for the Russian helicopter industry and give flashes of inspiration and business achievements to us and professional and personal maturation in the field of helicopter making to our young colleagues.

We shall keep on developing the best helicopters, beef up the domestic helicopter mar-ket and fleet and give the competitive edge to Russian helicopter operators.

I wish all of my colleagues in the helicopter community and Helicopter Industry Asso-ciation of Russia new accomplishments and fruitful participation in an important heli-copter event of the year.

Dear friends!

In April this year, our country as well as mankind as a whole marked the 50th anniver-sary of a truly historic event the first manned flight to outer space. I am glad that the Vostok spacecraft carrying Yuri Gagarin was lofted into orbit by rocket motors made by Plant No. 24 named after Mikhail Frunze. Today, the Samara-based company under its new brand name Kuznetsov is part of Oboronproms subsidiary holding company, United Engine Corporation (UEC), and UECs centre of competence in manufacturing both engines powering launch vehicles and those used by Russian strategic aircraft. Prior to Gagarins flight, mankind had striven for the skies in a consistent and purpose-ful manner. First, there was the maiden flight of the balloon, then that of the aeroplane, followed by the first flight of the helicopter. Russian scientists, inventors, designers and test pilots have always been at the cutting-edge of airspace exploration.It is the merits of our talented aircraft designers and their technical solutions offered well ahead of their time that enabled Russia to remain a helicopter power today.These days, our strategic goal for the coming decade is to consolidate our position as one of the worlds three major helicopter manufacturers. For this purpose, we are launching modernisation of our most popular medium and heavylift helicopters to in-crease our share of this market segment, on the one hand, and are diversifying our product range to increase the number of our light helicopter models (Ka-226T, Mi-34S1, Ansat), on the other. In addition, we are running promising programmes, particularly, a future high-speed helicopter development programme.The large-scale modernisation of economy and the latters transition to innovative de-velopment declared by the nations leadership call for proactive involvement of new generations of engineers, designers and researchers and for setting engineering and technical problems to them to develop products that would be a real breakthrough. Obviously, in so doing, there is a need of profound public discussion and support on the part of all public organisations, companies and private persons concerned about the future of Russias helicopter industry. Certainly, HeliRussia 2011, a traditional inter-national helicopter industry show, shall become a key venue for exchange of views in this field and facilitate the drawing of governmental and public attention to the devel-opment of science-intensive branches of Russias industry.
