Forchheim, Germany
Excellent plant performance
After a planning and construction time ofless than three months, the project inForchheim went into service. With the solarmodules providing an electrical efficiency ofover 18 percent, the customer reports thatthe unit has been extremely reliable andprofitable.
Rende, Italy
High efficiency with limited space
Due to specific space regulations, thechallenge for this project in Rende, Italy, was to integrate a 1-MWp photovoltaicsystem on less than 10,000 m2 of groundarea. A large construction was designedand built right next to an existing biomassinstallation. The High Vela acts as a largefacade and has a highly efficient ratio ofpanels to space. Furthermore, the installedrows of solar panels are situated closer toone another than in standard plantconstructions, decreasing the tilt angle bututilizing space with maximum efficiency.
Beneixama, Spain
Flexible solutions tailored to the
environment and market conditions
Due to the differentiated feed-in tariff
(FIT) structure in Spain, the challenge of theBeneixama project was to help the customerenhance the profitability of the PV plant.
Siemens designed and implemented theentire plant subsystems to adjust it tothe feed-in tariff structure. As a result, theplant has reported a higher profitability thansome other plants in its MW range. Despiteadverse conditions, the plant wasconstructed within 12 months.

Sustainable performance
Bright times for solar powerLarge-scale photovoltaic power plants: a promising future
The advantages of solar energy are clear: the sun isan endless source of energy and the conversion processyields clean energy. Another advantage of photovoltaic(PV) power plants is their suitability for different loca-tions. They can be installed almost anywhere. Thisstrong foundation promotes the important position PVpower plants are expected to play in the future energymix, which is also reflected in the past industrialgrowth rates and the expected future growth.
The photovoltaics market, characterized by far-above-average growth, is expected to be worth over$32.3 billion in 2012* and upward growth is expectedto continue. The large-scale PV power plant segment isexpected to grow by 1720 percent**. Market driversin the large-scale PV segment are the great potential for
optimization and the double-digit profit rates possibletoday.
The main challenge is to ensure both sustainableand profitable growth of the PV market, which ischaracterized by a high degree of complexity anda wide variety of technical demands. This calls forthorough experience and expertise.
Siemens, the worlds only integrated energy infra-structure company covering the entire energyconversion chain, is ideally positioned to provide thefuture-oriented, innovative, and efficient products, solutions, and services that can help solve thesecomplex issues. Innovation and efficiency are key factorin ensuring the sustainable competitivenessof large-scale PV power plants in direct comparisonto conventional energy sources. There is muchunexplored potential to be tapped.
