Cllr Sonja Boshoff of the DA in Thaba Chweu writes:With the recent publication of the Blue Drop Report, and the subsequent amazement by the administration of TCM on this report as they were, according to the Municipal Manager not even aware of this publication, confirms the DA's suspicions that this ANC led municipality is unable to execute its mandate.According to information received, the administration, under the leadership of the municipal manager, Mr Burton Khoma, has again embarked on the appointment of a consultant to manage the water reticulation system and the water purification plant and have also called upon an official of TCM, Mr Albert Fourie (who according to the MM is the only one to have the necessary knowledge) to see to it that the situation is turned around before the end of September 2012.The Technical Department of TCM (under whose jurisdiction these entities fall) currently has a Director who should be held accountable for the state of the water reticulation system and the water purification plant. With his appointment, the ANC were absolutely adamant that he has the necessary qualifications for this position and will definitely be able to fulfill his duties.The DA is however again questioning this appointment. If he is as competent as the ANC claims him to be, why then the appointment of yet another consultant? It is absolutely clear that the Cadre deployment strategy of the ANC has failed drastically and will again negatively affect the tax payers of TCM.

The Lydenburg Sewerage Works, according to allegations, have various process issues which need urgent attention and are as follows: The automatic screen is not working which means that solids and debris are not removed effectively; Settled sludge pumps are not working, which entails that sludge is pumped from the outer section of the main cement pond to a sump from which settled sludge pumps it further into the settlers. These pumps have not been working since January 2011. This has led to the main cement pond becoming full of sludge and consequently results in sludge overflow at times when inflow to the sewerage works is high.Two aerators are not functional. One of the aerators in the outer section of the main cement pond is not working at all, apparently the relay was damaged. The second aerator only works when manually started but is normally left off due to high levels of sludge in the pond, when running it there is excessive carry over of sludge; The final settler rake is damaged. This rakes function is to skim off any remaining solids floating on the surface and discharge it automatically at the waste trap. The waste trap is currently operated manually and if the skimming of solids is not done on a regular basis, then solids will overflow to the cleaned water; Currently TCM does not have enough adequately trained operators working at the treatment works which could and will lead to discharge of untreated water from the treatment works; and Conditions of the Water Licence appear not to be met. The following parameters are required by legislation to be tested : pH, electrical conductivity, Nitrate, Ammonia, Chemical Oxygen Compound, Faecial Coliform Units, Orthophosphate, SS. Currently the only testing that is undertaken is the Chlorine and Sludge which is done on a daily basis.The DA of TCM is further very much concerned with the fact that the so called purified water flows into the Dorps River which will cause a health hazard as does the raw sewerage which is overflowing from the sewerage line from Kellysville.The residents of Thaba Chweu should be made aware of the situation and should be informed that the water is not drinkable and that to prevent any epidemics, water should be boiled or bottled water should be purchased.

DIE OUTOPPIE SE KOMMENTAAR

ALMAL van ons het van tyd tot tyd n kansie nodig om weg te breek. Weg van die huis af en weg van die werk af.So was ons dan ook bevoorreg om verlede week weer die jaarlikse Aqua Malongane week wat deur Wenakker aangebied word, by te woon. Nie dat ons n vakansie gehad het nie. Andrea kon nie af kry by haar werk nie en

ons moes die fotokompetisie alleen en sonder haar hanteer. Daar was dus nie tyd vir die gebruiklike kuier by 360, Ponta do Ouro en Mamoli nie.Dit was nietemin baie aangenaam en ons kon weer skouers skuur met ou vriende uit Lydenburg, Burgersfort en Steelpoort.Die enigste probleem is natuurlik dat die hele huis saamgepiekel moet word. Matilda het selfs aangedring op die kroegyskas, ten spyte van die reuse vrieskas in die boswa. Einste yskas is sorgvuldig met bubble wrap toegedraai en gelaai.Met my geluk is Murphy altyd saam en word my vrag toe by die grens geskud. Die doeanabeamptes van Mosambiek glo toe ons voer die nuwe yskas in en wil die kwitansie

sien. Wie hou nou n vyfjaaroud kwitansie?Met die terugtog het ons so 10 kg se vis in die vrieskas. Elke voertuig mag 6 kg uitbring en ons vervoer vier voertuie se vis (24 kg toegelaat). Dink julle die mense verstaan dat ons die enigste vrieskas tussen vier voertuie het? n Mens se geduld word dus ietwat beproef.Maar enige wegbreek hang af van die mense wat agterbly. My opregte dank gaan aan die Highlands Panorama span wat in my afwesigheid n skitterkoerant uitgebring het en aan my kinders wat die huis, die honde, die katte en die akwariumvissies so mooi versorg het. En natuurlik aan Wenakker vir die geleentheid om saam te gaan. Ja, sonder die hulp van ander, is wegbreek nie moontlik nie.

Die bakkie word oop en bloot geparkeer, bokse afgelaai, die eende brood gevoer en dan gevang, in die bokse geprop en weggery!Ons sukkel geweldig om die eende groot te kry....hulle is baie pieperig en word baie maklik gevang deur die likkewane, otters en babers, selfs rondloper katte en honde. Uit elke broeisel van 9 eendjies word daar miskien 2 groot. Hulle word in hokke gehou en gevoer tot hulle groot genoeg is en dan oopgemaak om hul vryheid op die dam te geniet. Ons voer hierdie eende en ganse elke dag 8 brode met mielies wat ons self koop....dis op die einde nie 'n goedkoop stokperdjie nie. Die eende en makoue is mak.....elke middag is hier horde ouers met klein kindertjies wat die diere kom voer en die kinders geniet dit gate uit. Hierdie vols op die water maak die ingang vanaf Dullstroom na Lydenburg mooi, en ons wil dit graag so hou. Ons wil ook graag aan die inwoners van Lydenburg mooi vra om groot asseblief nie met julle honde hier rond te kom stap of piekniek hou

Maar met my ietwat-skryftalent en storieliefhebberobsessie het ek uit 'n ander oog hierdie 'skildery' se 'naaktewaarheid' ontbloot.Hierdie debakel is vir my ironies naby aan die sprokie van 'Die Keiser se nuwe klere' deur Hans Christian Andersen.Die slim mense s in hierdie sprokie word gesinspeel op

korrupsie, mag en manipulering wat deel vorm van n politieke bestel. 'n Verwaande keiser word vanwee sy ydelheid en oneerlikheid bedrieg. Die volwassenes is te bang om te praat oor dit wat hulle sien, maar 'n onskuldige kind is gelukkig bereid om die waarheid uit te wys.

Ten slotte, die keiser se nuwe klere was gereed. Hy het die klere bewonder en die kleremakers bedank. Hy wou nie dom klink en s dat hy niks sien nie. Die keiser paradeer toe in die hoofstraat af. Die skare kon die kaal keiser sien, maar niemand erken dit nie en vrees dat almal sal dink hulle is dom.Die skare het dwaas vol lof vir die onsigbare weefsel en die kleure gejuig. Every landowner should belong to a fire association so that you can plan strategic firebreaks with your neighbours and help each other in the event of an emergency. 3. Every landowner should ensure that their public liability insurance includes the spreading of wildfire. Insurance claims may not be entertained in the event of a landowner not having firebreaks.4. SAPS are being trained to issue J534 fines to any landowner that does not comply with the law. the landowner on whose land the fire started will be held responsible for any fire originating on his / her property regardless of who or how the fire started (Act 101 of 1998, the National Veld and Forestry Fire Act). 5. No Landowner may make any open fire or burn any fire breaks during the months of May, June or July without a valid burning permit from the local fire association. The issue of these permits shall not place any legal or another liability on the issuer. Before burning a firebreak you must phone Sandra Prinsloo at 083 686 2091 for a daily weather report and permission to burn on that day. 6. A special permit must be obtained for any burning in the months of August, September and October. 7. No firebreaks may be burned on Friday's, Saturday's, Sunday's or on any other public holiday. 8. For help in cutting long grass around your homes and staff houses you may contact Riana at 083 650 6280. 9. Justice Mashego from Pilgrims Rest was awarded the champion after a very grueling 36 hole competition. Players from various clubs including Lydenburg came to compete, they were welcomed with a very well groomed course that was found very challenging by some. The play started very early Sunday morning and the last four ball ended just as in became dark almost not completing the game, this however would have been sad, as the winner came from this last group of players.This competition will be granted ranking status in 2013, players on the amateur golfing tour in South Africa will then be able to get points if the compete in this open. families of the eight people who died on 21 May in a taxi accident.The overloaded taxi pulling a trailer with a Mozambique registration number that was travelling from the direction of Nelspruit via the Schoemanskloof road to the direction of Middelburg, 14 km to Machadodorp overturned and killed seven people instantly including the driver.Ten people who were seriously injured and seven slightly were rushed to hospital and later, one died.Preliminary investigations indicate that the taxi had a tyre burst and the driver lost control.MEC Shongwe said that the province had since been

Wenakker se Aqua Malongane groot pret

Vanjaar is ook geskiedenis gemaak deur die eerste keer n groepfoto te plaas van almal wat daar was, met hulle

Malongane hemde aan.

DIE jaarlikse Aqua Malongane Hengelkompetisie is vanjaar vanaf 13 tot 18 Mei deur Wenakker aangebied. Dit was die veertiende agtereenvolgende jaar wat die geleentheid in Mei aangebied is. Nege bote en twee Jetskis het aan die kompetisie deelgeneem.Gaste het ingesluit vriende en familie van die deelnemers, vriende en donateurs van Wenakker, die Highlands Panorama Nuus, wat die geleentheid se fotokompetisie aangebied het en natuurlik die gaskunstenaar wat elke aand musiek verskaf het.Dit was die eerste keer dat die musiek deur Freddie Mong hanteer is en wat n kunstenaar is hy nie! Afrikaanse liedjies, Golden Oldies en Rock is met gemak deur die veelsydige Mong met sy sterk stem hanteer. Hy het letterlik die skare aan sy voete (en op hulle voete) gehad.Dan het Wilma Muller en Marie Kruger van Wenakker natuurlik soos gebruiklik Malongane se kombuis oorgeneem en is gaste elke dag met n skitter ontbyt en vyfster aandete trakteer. Elke boot hengelaar het ook elke dag n bootpak met eetgoed ontvang.Chris Jankowitz (Direkteur Wenakker), Marco Van Wyk en Koos Prince het daagliks die radio beman en strandbeheer toegepas.

Die hengelkompetisie is deur Garth Mc Gee en span op Manyana gewen (sien bl. 20).Aqua Malongane is destyds deur Wenakker en Koos Prince begin as n fondsinsamelingsprojek vir Wenakker. Dit het deur die jare gegroei tot veel meer, waar dit nou ook n dankie s vir borge en n skakelgeleentheid vir Wenakker geword het, waar nuwe kontakte elke jaar gebou word.Andre Coetzee.

Hierdie roete is slegs sowat 620 kilometer, maar kan, afhangende van jou vrag, of jy iets sleep en hoeveel keer jy stop, enigiets duur van ses tot 13 uur op die pad. Dit hang ook af van die tyd van die dag, en die dag van die week.Die gedeelte van 100 km tussen Piet Retief en Pongola is nou al vir meer as ses jaar onder konstruksie! Die BEE kontrakteurs kan eenvoudig nie die stuk pad reg klaarmaak nie. HINO South Africa has been rated the leading brand in the overall local truck market for the third successive year. This was announced at the annual awards function of the PMR Africa magazine held in Johannesburg recently.The survey was conducted by means of telephonic interviews with a

random national sample of 180 respondents from January to March 2012. Those interviewed included fleet owners, fleetmanagers, fleet controllers and transport managers in the private and public sectors, as well as trucking journalists.The respondents rated the various commercial vehicle manufacturers and distributors across 28 attributes covering the vehicles themselves as well as after-market service. The people interviewed were also asked to list the make, as well as type and number of vehicles theyoperated in their own fleets.The results are based on perceptions of the respondents with ratings from 1 to 5 on each attribute. Hino scored an average of 4,27 points in the combined category (trucks above and below 10 tons) and was

rewarded with a Diamond Arrow.Hino also came out top in the category for trucks below 10 tons with its 300 Series and Dyna range, scoring an average of 4,23 points and qualifying for another Diamond Arrow. in the Comrades 2012 next month. Some of them are running it for the

first time but some are already veterans. Everyone wishes them good

skole het aan hierdie toernooi deelgeneem. Die spanne het aan uitkloprondtes deelgeneem, so

TYDENS vanjaar se Aqua Malongane spesiehengelkompetisie het die span van Manyana, met Garth McGee (skipper) Peter Goldsmith en Kobus Maas die kompetisie vir die soveelste keer gewen, en dit op n rubberboot!Hengel was vanjaar moeilik, met die vis skaars en seetoestande nie baie goed nie.Die algemene gevoel onder die 9 bote en twee Jetskis was dat die speelveld vanjaar meer gelyk sou wees, aangesien Garth nie met sy groot boot SeaDucer deelgeneem het nie en dus nie so ver kon gaan soek vir die grotes nie. Maar die span se ervaring en vaardigheid het weereens gewys dat hulle gedugte kompetisie onder enige toestande is.Hulle het weliswaar met n baie klein voorsprong (174.2) punte geseevier oor Sonskyn, die skiboot van Lood De Jager

(skipper) Kobus Hatting, Nico Havenga, Sean Ottly en Hentie Van Der Merwe, wat 173.1 punte behaal het.Derde was die Van Der Heever broers wat elke jaar met twee Jetskis deelneem. Omdat net een persoon op elke Jetski moet skip en moet hengel, wat uiters moeilik is, word die twee Jetskis se punte saam gegooi. Hulle het 110.4 punte behaal.Ander bote wat die heerlike week meegemaak het was Piet Pretorius se Witblits, Christo Van Graan se Halc, Chris Myburgh met Aqua Joy, Piet Broodryk met Carra Pau, Ben Jones met Makisaki II, Willie Van Rensburg (verlede jaar se wenner) met Fish Eagle en Ben Bezuidenhout met Fish On.Andre Coetzee.
