Rhetoric - Debate : Indians are best thinkers, average planners and worst executers

    FOR :-

It is very rightly said that of all actions, thinking requires the maximum effort. And perhaps this is thereason that we Indians, one of the most inscrutable people in the world prefer thinking. However,

stagnation arises when all action is restricted to mere thinking, partly planning but minimal execution.

Afterall we are Indians! The mortals, inhabiting the land of mysteries and ironies! How can one cast

doubt on our thinking abilities? Infact why should one castigate us when we only think? We belong to

this great country once inhabited by the likes of great thinkers like Sri Krishna, Chanakya, Mahatma

Gandhi. It is our legacy to think. It is our fundamental right to think. Think think and think. But my dearfriends, just think, should thinking stop us from planning and execution? Why for we indians, thinking

has become synonymous with procrastination? Why is it that we fail more often than not during the final

execution stage? Do we lack in any ability or mental strength than any other race in the world?

The answer is an irrefutable no! Still then we always lag behind! This is one hard fact of life that we come

across more often than not. A look at eternally visible poor road conditions, stray animals littering with

filth all around, always going on construction projects, all pervading traffic jams, ever increasing poverty

and other social problems clearly shows that we have always put in most efforts into thinking but when itcomes to planning and execution, we are far behind. It is also true that we dont want to put in efforts for

planning and execution. This is implicit in attitude of people from all sections of our society.

An average Indian politician doesnt need an introduction. We all are aware about the thinking efforts

of our reverred netaji, with the kind of development we see nowadays. Huge amount of money is wasted

on the name of project plans but the investment often doesnt reach the required work area whereexecution is to be carried out. We see so much hype and hooplah for 5 year plans but hardly see any

tangible outputs. 63 years to our independence and we are still thinking that we would once become a

developed country. When IBM and Coke went to China in late 70s after we had shut the doors for them,

we were merely thinking while China was focussing on execution. When terrorists like Afzal, Kasab

etc need an execution, our govt is still thinking whether to grant capital punishment or not. When we

study in our school, our focus remains on theory that is based on thinking whereas very little emphasisis laid upon practicals that requires execution of theory.

Clearly, no doubt thinking is necessary, it doesnt mean that only and only thinking would suffice for

everything. An equal planning and right execution at the right time is what is required. There is no doubt

in the fact that Indians are the most talented and gifted in the world but always the problem comes up inthe implementation of these talents. The day we realize that we have to work beyond thinking to also

planning and execution, our country would progress. No one can stop us from being the most developed

    nation in the world.

    Against :-

I totally disagree with the statement that the Indians are the best thinkers, worse at complaining and zero

execution. The answer lies in our culture and tradition. Our mythology talks about so many decision

making events. Take the example of Ram, Krishna, Shiva, Hanuman etc. Our history is replete with

example of kings like Ashoka, Akbar, Chandragupta etc who took strategic decisions at the right time for

their empires and all that led to what comes to be known as the Modern India. No thinking without

execution shall not survive and nor viceversa. Despite all this, still Masters frm anna malai university .

There can be no decision in the world that can be purely based on either but rather the better model would

be the one employing the right mix of thinking, planning and execution and we Indians are doing

preferrably well as the worlds 7 th largest country. We planned our economy right after independence

and that was supposed to be the best solution from the Jawaharlal Nehru regime. Not only was this a work

of great thinking but also timely execution to achieve realistic goals over the time period have ensuredthis drive of ours towards rapid development. No doubt we were slow in executing a decision that

involved the opening of our economy in the early 90s , but then thinking and planning that preceded thisaction was equally important for its success. No doubt we belong to the land of great thinkers, we ought

to be great thinkers . but then that doesnt really mean that we are poor executers.

It is really easy to berate our public, our politicians, our govt officers, etc for any inefficiency in the

system but what we forget to look into are the positives that remain around. Why do we forget the greatfreedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi that got us freedom ? Why do we forget the great breakthrough

that we attained in space through Rakesh Sharma? How can we overlook the 1983 world cup win or why

do we want to challenge the claim that our country is the most popular destination for service jobs that

have become perhaps the greatest employer in India. Does the high global demand of Indian managers,

who are essentially decision makers, signifies nothing? Just ask yourself, can these accomplishments

come up from just mere thinking and without proper planning and execution. The answer would be NO!

It is very much clear that the execution is the equally important part of any action and is definitely given

importance in India . As a country, we ought to keep telling ourselves to keep this trilogy going on as far

as any response to any problem is concerned. The thinking, analysis and execution all are equally

important elements and would come into a structured order only, thereby are required at different times. Thus, if we carry on like this, soon we would be one of the worlds greatest superpowers, riding high on

the cloud of dreams and aspirations!
