INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT GEORGIA

ALPHABET

Nearly all Georgian knows that from 14 alphabet in the world 1 is Georgian. We have our own 33 letters in alphabet, different from others. The oldest uncontested example of Georgian writing is an Asomtavruli inscription from 430 AD in a church in Bethlehem.

WORD ‘’WINE’’ According to the researchers the word ‘’wine’’ spread from Georgia to the whole world. It has nearly the same root in many languages. Wein-in German Winum-in Latin Wino-in Russian ღვინო-In Georgian which

has the same sound.

Ushguli is recognised as the highest settlement in Europe, set at altitudes between 2,086 and 2,200 metres above sea level.

In 1935, in Tbilisi Mushtaedi park the first railway for cheldren was opened.

The First Tractor to pick Tea was invented in Georgia in 1963.

Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi is third biggest in the world among orthodox churches in the world after Moscow and St. Petersburg Cathedrals.

UNESCO HERITAGE SITES

• Our  current UNESCO heritage sites include the ancient capital city of Mtskheta, the massive cathedral complexes of Bagrati and Gelati, and the mountain region of Svaneti.

• Georgian dance is a celebration of life and of Georgia’s rich and diverse culture. Each dance portrays the characteristics of the region in which it originated. Each of them has its names.Eg:
