Few Famous Indians in the world

The world is always moved by

Indians

• A period of general and sustained economic

decline

• Slowing down of every economic activity

• In a recession many things fall together-

production, employment, prices, and

business profits

• Business go bust, and this can lead to runs

on banks and a crisis in the financial

system

• Contradictory opinions are provided by

economist’s for causes of “Recession”.

• A school of thought blames it on “Higher

Savings and Less Expenditure”

• Others thought it as an outcome of

“Excessive Spending”

Recession needs swift action: Obama Press Trust of India, Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 12:44 AM (Washington)

"From everywhere we look, there is work to be

done" Obama said in his inaugural address

“The state of the economy calls for action, bold

and swift, and we will act -- not only to create

New jobs, but to lay a new foundation for growth,"

Obama has proposed a mega stimulus package

to revive the US economy. The plan proposes to

create three to four million jobs in the US.

"Today I say to you that the challenges we face

are real. They are serious and they are many.

They will not be met easily or in a short span of

time. But know this, America – they will be met,"

Obama said. Source:www.ndtv.com

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says

he is confident Australia will avoid

a recession despite predictions of

rising unemployment and the

global financial crisis hurting

other countries.

The prime minister said he agreed

with Reserve Bank of Australia

(RBA) deputy governor Ric Battellino's

comments on Thursday that Australia

was well placed to cope with the

No question of recession in India: Manmohan

Putting up a brave front in the face of

global meltdown, Prime Minister Manmohan

Singh said that the Government is watching

the situation on a ‘day-to-day and

hour-to-hour basis’ and asserted that there

is no question of recession in India.

Replying to a volley of questions on the

pressures on Indian economy due to

international financial crisis, Singh said

that though capital outflows were putting

pressure on the liquidity and the rupee,

Indian banking system was not affected

as much as elsewhere.

Students opt to study abroad to wait out recession

The global meltdown has hit industry hard.

Students despite making it through campus

recruitments, are unsure whether they will get

confirmed offers.

With such uncertainties prevailing in the job

market, many of them have decided to pursue

higher education in India and abroad.

Mr. L Dhanasekaran, head of Education UK, south

India, told TOI that the number of visas issued

from south India for students applying for UK in

September 2007 was 6,846.

www.timesofindia.indiatimes.com

Mr. L Dhanasekaran, Head of Education UK,

South India,

• The number has shot up by 5,000 since last year. In September this year, the

number of visas issued was 11,126. "Overall, 31,000 Indians are studying in

UK," he said.

• Students preferred courses are MBA, IT, engineering, and applied sciences

such as biotechnology, microbiology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, social

science, law and journalism.

• "Considering the present situation, students prefer to study than take up a

job. It may take more than a year for the market to come to normal. By then,

the students will not only have an international degree but chances of getting

jobs would be brighter," Mr. L Dhanasekaran said.

• The next hot destination for students to pursue higher studies is

Australia.

• Data provided by IDP education showed that the first half of 2008 saw

25,000 admissions of Indian students in various institutions in Australia.

This is a growth of 50% compared to the same period in 2007.

• Popular courses are MBA; hospitality, such as commercial cookery and

patisserie; and pilot training. Students have also inquired about salon

management, criminology, biotechnology, forensics, community welfare

and horticulture.

•"Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia have also

registered a significant increase in Indian students. This is because they

come from a fast developing country that needs skilled and trained

workforce."

• Some of the city's leading engineering colleges that boasted of 100 per

cent placements last year could not muster 60 per cent job offers this

year.

• When contacted, Vasavi college placement officer Mr. C Madhav Rao said

this year only 28 companies have offered jobs till date, while last year by this

time 60 firms handed out employment offers to its students. Of 600 students,

around 390 have got call letters though no joining dates have been

mentioned.

Authorities said, students were going in for

higher studies as there were not many job

offers. "Many students are planning to apply

for higher studies," CBIT Principal,

Mr. Chenna Keshav Rao told TOI.

According to him, many of the 543 students

who have got offer letters in the first phase

are planning to go abroad as they feel

appointments might be delayed.

What is weighing down on the present batch

of students is the fact that their seniors

have not yet got their joining dates though

they passed out in May, 2008. "This has

scared the present batch," Keshav Rao said.

The appointment date of as many as 60

students has been deferred till October, 2009.

US may raise H-1B visa cap February 06, 2009, Washington

Commerce secretary, Senator Judd Gregg, may well

become the White House lead for expanding the cap

on H-1B visas, a bulk of which go to Indian firms.

Mr Obama himself voiced support early in his

campaign for increasing the 85,000-visa cap, which

includes 20,000 visas set aside for advanced-degree

graduates from US universities.

“It’s not like... we are taking jobs from Americans,

A short story about

FAITH

This dog was born on

Christmas Eve in

the year 2002.

He was born with

3 legs – 2 healthy

hind legs and

1 abnormal front

leg which need

to be amputated.

He of course

could not walk

when he was born.

His first owner also did not

think that he can survive.

Therefore, he was

thinking of 'putting him

to sleep'.

By this time, his present

owner, Jude Stringfellow,

met him and wanted

to take care of him.

She is determined to

teach and train this dog to

walk by himself.

Therefore she named him

'Faith'.

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let

him feel the movements.

After further training in the snow, he now can walk like a human being.

To

achieve

anything

in

life

we

need

CONFIDENCE

and

DETERMINATION

like

FAITH.

THANK YOU
