LSC Overall Objectives

• Represents all sections, providing support through network opportunities, communications, workshops

• Create a more effective, productive relationship between local sections and AIHA national

• Enhance communication and strengthen partnerships between AIHA and local sections

AIHA National/Local Section Partnership Agreement

“AIHA recognizes that each local section is unique, with varying priorities and levels of participation and resources. It is not expected that all local sections fulfill these responsibilities in the same manner or to the same extent.”

ABIH: New CM Point Approach for Category 4 – It’s Easy!! 

• ABIH discontinued  CM point review service Dec. 2011• For new events, now calculate our own CM credit.• Criteria still the same:

– Event targeted to professional level (not technician level), and advance the IH's technical knowledge & skills

– Determine technical contact hours aligned to at least one CM Area of IH, Safety, IH Ethics, or Management

• Must be a minimum of 1 hour (60 minutes). Exception: ethics courses can be less than 1 hour. 

• IF CEUs provided, 0.1 CEU = 1 hour

– Convert hours to points @  0.167 points per hour 

“Technical Contact Hours”

• Includes (but  not limited to)– presentations, lectures, break outs, Q&A, exams, event overview, event recaps,  discussions

• Excludes– non‐technical portions, e.g., generic welcome speeches, participant introductions, breaks, meals, networking, exhibitor time, roundtables or discussions with unspecified topics, socialtours 

Can be Exact or Estimated(Think about when scheduling)

• Exact– e.g. 75 minutes = 1.25 hours (1.25 X 0.167 = 0.21 CM)

– Therefore, today’s conference: 6.5 hrs

• Estimated ‐ using the average hours per half day, e.g., 2.5 hrs/half day X 6 half days = 15 hours 

• Can round time down, but not up, e.g. 95 minutes = 1.5 hrs

How to Keep Track?• Event provider not obligated to determine / 

communicate CM credit but perk to attract attendees 

• LS suggested language: “This event contains XX.X hours and may be eligible for ABIH CM credit. See ABIH web site for CM credit criteria.”

• NOTE: previous ABIH reviews still valid till expiration / end date (e.g. multiple‐offering courses)– “ABIH has previously awarded CM credit for this event. 

The current event contains XX hours which can be claimed for CM credit.”

• Documentation for event attendance: No change
