If voting patterns fromthe Karnataka assembly

polls were to be replicatedin the next Lok Sabha elec-tions, the BJP would face aneven gloomier scenario, win-ning just two of the states28 seats. The Congress wouldwin 22 and the JD(S) theremaining four.

An analysis of votes by LokSabha seats shows that even ifthe votes gathered by the B SYedyurappa-led KJP and theG Sriramulu-led BSRCP wereadded to the BJPs tally, thecombined entity would onlyget another seven seats, takingthe saffron partys tally tonine, a huge drop from the 19 it

    won in 2009.Considering that Karnata-

ka contributed the largestchunk of MPs to the BJPsLok Sabha tally in 2009, thatis truly alarming news forthe party.

Chandigarh: Following thesame trajectory to death as Sar-abjit Singh, Sanaullah Ranjay, the Pakistani convict brutallyattacked by inmates in Jam-mus Kot Bhalwal jail last Fri-day, died in PGI early on T hurs-day after remaining in coma

since he was brought to thehospital. A Pakistan Interna-tional Airlines aircraft tookback his body in the evening af-ter an autopsy was conducted.

Doctors at PGI said Sanaul-lah died of multiple organ fail-ure. His kidneys had collapsedon Wednesday morning and hewas put on dialysis. The pris-oner was admitted to ICU on

May 3 and was put on ventila-tor after serious head injuries.

His condition worsened witheach passing day. Fearing the

worst, Indian authorities al-lowed his relatives to crossover from Wagah border andthe same grieving relativescarried back the body andthe dead mans belongings, in-

cluding a Quran and a prayermat that he used in Kot Bhal-wal jail.

    The two deaths have pro-

mpted demands for more hum-ane treatment and even repa-triation of Indians in Pakista-ni jails and Pakistani citizensin Indian prisons. The attackon Sanaullah came despite thehome ministrys orders to jailwardens to sequester Pakista-ni prisoners.

    Kolkata: Sudipta Sen is

threatening to sing again. The Saradha Group chief

said on Thursday he hadmore to reveal than what hehad already told the CBI in a

letter, his words coming as athreat to all those so far en-joying immunity because oftheir political status. Letthe investigation be over. Ishall reveal everything, theprime accused in the multi-crore scam said at Bidhan-nagar court on Thursday.

But the promise to openanother can of worms didntearn Sen, who looked hag-gard and had clearly lost hisswagger after two weeks injail, a breather. The courtturned down his bail plea aswell as those of aides Debja-ni Mukherjee and Arvind

Chauhan, who were arrest-ed along with Sen last monthat Sonemarg in Kashmir. The trio was sent back to po-lice custody for nine days in acase filed by theatre person-

ality Arpita Ghosh. In a sep-arate case filed by KannojMandal, an investor, theywere remanded in 14 daysjudicial custody.

The Bidhannagar Policehas unearthed as many as

500 shady firms into whichSen channeled his ill-gottenmoney. The leads came dur-ing interrogation of offi-cials of software companyWeb Spiders, which fed Sa-

radhas accounts data into aBoston-based server belong-ing to a US company withwhom it had a technical col-laboration. We have tracednearly 500 companies whereSen parked his funds. Now,we are trying to find out ifthese companies are fake orthey really exist, a seniorofficer at Bidhannagar po-lice commissionerate said.

Asked if all the compa-nies were Indian, the officersaid, At present, it is notpossible to give details of thecompanies but they are

spread across Boston, Auck-land, London and HongKong. We are trying to takethe help of Interpol to get de-tails of these companies.

New Delhi: Another day, ano-ther time, this might have beenan explosive disclosure. Buteven today, its quite a story. Itrelates to a dismissal of SirVivian Richards (just call meViv), who was the GuestEditor for Times Sports onThursday.

Some will still recall the fa-mous episode in which hebroke down a door after beingdismissed at Delhis Ferozesh-ah Kotla during an India-WestIndies test in 1983. Richards re-counted, Someone called meup the night before in the hotel. It was an anonymous call. Hesaid, Mr Richards? You dontknow me but if I were you to-

morrow Id be careful of (theumpire). The next day, I got hiton the pads. The ball wouldnthave hit another set (ofstumps). Kapil just sort of wentaah (gesticulating disappoint-ment) and I was given out. Icouldnt believeit when I saw thefinger going up.You never heardabout match-fixing and allthat stuff so Idont know what was goingon then.

Richards still has the trade-mark swagger that intimidated

opponents and electrified audi-ences the world over. But hedoesnt chew gum anymore. Helooks as broad-shouldered and

athletic as in his hey-day, and you half-ex-pect him to pick up abat and start swing-ing. These days, though, the originalMaster Blaster pre-

fers to watch from the sidelinesand dispense his considerablewisdom on the game.

Whom does he rate as the

greater batsman, Sachin Ten-dulkar or Brian Lara? I nevercompare batsmen, he replied. But it has been a privilegeto watch both of them andsee what they have accom-plished. And dont forget RickyPonting. And which does herate as his finest innings. Helooks you straight in the eyeand replies, with quiet pride,Never going to apartheid-eraSouth Africa.
