Tokyo Tech introduces the“Japan-Thailand Science & Technology Leaders Network”

Tokyo Tech, in marking its 130th anniversary, began active promotion of the “Japan-Thailand Science & Technology Leaders Network”, a project aimed at building an information network through exchanges between companies and universities in Thailand and Japan. Companies interested in Thailand’s science and technology development and in nurturing the future leaders of technical innovation in Thailand are invited to join the network.

Tokyo Tech's approach to nurturing Thailand's future Science & Technology leaders

Tokyo Tech, in collaboration with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and leading Thai universities, established the Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (TAIST)-Tokyo Tech graduate program in 2007. The program is intended to nurture highly-skilled researchers, engineers and R&D personnel who will lead the future of technical innovation in Thailand.

At present, TAIST-Tokyo Tech has more than 200 students in its three programs of Automotive Engineering, Information & Communication Technology for Embedded Systems, and Advanced & Sustainable Environmental Engineering. By the 2013 academic year, TAIST-Tokyo Tech produced more than 100 master’s degree graduates, some of whom proceeded to earn doctoral degrees as well. Held in high regard by Japanese and Thai industries, TAIST-Tokyo Tech contributes to developing the future leaders of technical innovation through its strong collaborations with Thai educational institutions.

MissionTAIST-Tokyo Tech aims to unite advanced technology with the environment, foster human resource development, and enhance research for global sustainable development in order to create solutions to various problems derived from rapid industrialization in Thailand.

ProgramsIn concert with Tokyo Tech's specialties, TAIST-Tokyo Tech is operating three programs based on industry needs in Thailand. - Automotive Engineering (AE): Launched in June 2007 - Information & Communication Technology for Embedded Systems (ICTES): Launched in June 2008 - Advanced & Sustainable Environmental Engineering (EnvE): Launched in June 2012

Career PathsTAIST-Tokyo Tech graduates have obtained positions not only at Japanese and Thai enterprises, but also at universities and research institutions in Thailand. Others have entered doctoral courses in Japan and western countries to develop their academic careers. In one case, a Vietnamese graduate of TAIST-Tokyo Tech was hired as a faculty member at a Vietnamese university. TAIST-Tokyo Tech graduates are expected to contribute actively to the strengthening of networks between industry and academia in Japan and Thailand as well as in neighboring Asian countries.
