    Stewardship Reflections

“…do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” (John 14:27)

Our limited human understanding cannot begin to understand the immense power of God. Instead of trusting in God, we think

we can control every outcome. Do you want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans. The next time worry, anxiety or fear creeps in, thank God for all He has given you and trust that He

has a better plan for you.

  • 6th Sunday of Easter

This coming Fr James will be on retreat with the other half of the priests of the Archdiocese (the

first half was on retreat last week). Please continue to pray for this group of priests.

This Sunday is the Parish/School Picnic. The Fundraising Committee of the School has worked

very hard to bring another picnic to reality. Take some time and drop over to the gym or the under

covered area --- this is where the food is. There is also bouncy castles and pony rides available for the

enjoyment of your children. This is THE (meaning the one major) fundraiser for Corpus Christi so

kindly support it. This will be a big help towards our new school/parish center.

After June 10th you will see (it will be impossible to miss) a TV screen behind the Welcoming

Booth. This is only for – solely for – Church purposes. Once it is up and running you will be able to

see the “fly-through” for the new school and parish center. I encourage you to watch the video and see

what you think. Pray for the new school and parish center. The video is also on the parish website – it

is located right on the front page www.ccparish.ca

This is an ongoing reminder that you can get the bulletin: a) in color; b) paperless; c) every

Friday; d) to your inbox. All you need to do is sign up by emailing or phoning the Office. Email

    [email protected]

Continue wearing those Name Tags and encourage your friends to sign up if they haven’t yet.

The bigger your parish is the smaller you have to try and make it. This is one way of doing that.

Ongoing reminder here – the parish has a subscription to Word on Fire ENGAGE which is

Bishop Robert Barron’s website. This is a very informative site to learn about our Catholic Faith. If you

are interested in signing up (no cost to you) get one of the cards available in the Vestibule

Continuing with my weekly section on the Sacraments: Now that I have discussed the different

types of sin it is important to review what the requirements are for a valid and profitable Confession

For a confession to be valid there must be the confession of all mortal sins. For a confession to

    profitable there are five steps involved – the 2nd step involves the following;

    2) Sorrow and Contrition for Sin: This must be present if our confession is going to be valid.

There are two types of contrition: perfect and imperfect. Perfect contrition is motivated by love (“I

have offended God and I am sorry because I love him”). Imperfect contrition is motivated by fear of

punishment (“I am sorry for having sinned because I do not want to be punished or go to hell”). This

imperfect contrition is sufficient for the forgiveness of sin but perfect contrition is needed for true

progress in our relationship with God and hatred for sin.

Let us continue to deepen in our love for Mary during this month dedicated to her honor.

  • 本堂神父的話

    復活期第六主日

    本週,我們的副本堂 Fr. James 會參加教區第二批聖職人員的避靜(第一批已在上星期完成了);

    請大家繼續為他們祈禱。

    今天是本堂和本堂小學在本堂範圍內舉行的「旅行日」。請你們抽空到禮堂和有上蓋的地方走

    走,那是供應食物的所在;為孩子們玩耍,則有可在內走動的充氣堡壘及騎小馬。那是本堂

    「籌款委員會」努力籌辦的活動,請你們多多支持。而且,他們亦正在籌劃另一次相若的活動。

    六月十日,在諮詢處會安裝一個電視螢光幕,是專為本堂訊息而設。我鼓勵你們註腳觀看,會

    看到介紹建造本堂新小學及堂區中心的影像,試想覺得怎樣。這視頻也可以在本堂網站的首頁

    看到 www.ccparish.ca。請為我們建新校舍和堂區中心祈禱。

    請繼續在主日配戴你們名字的襟牌,鼓勵你們身邊的人登記參與。這樣,我們能把這個大堂區

    的距離縮小。

    再提醒你們:本堂已訂閱 Robert Barron 主教的網頁。那網頁內容非常豐富,有助更認識我們的天

    主教信仰。在聖堂正門入口處拿取資料小卡,免費登入吧。

    以下是每週有關「聖事」的淺談了。

    我們談過不同的「罪」,我們續談如何辦一個富神益的「修和聖事」。

    有效的「修和聖事」,自然是向神父告明所有大罪。要辦能完滿領受神益的「修和聖事」,有

    五個步驟。第一個「省察」的步驟後,隨著是:

    (二)痛悔。「發痛悔」為這聖事得到有效的赦罪是必要的。痛悔有「上等痛悔」和「下等痛

    悔」之分。「上等痛悔」是因愛天主而發(『我因愛天主而痛悔我對祂的冒犯』),「下等痛

    悔」是因害怕被懲罰而發(『我後悔犯了罪,因為我不想被懲罰或下地獄』)。辦「修和聖事」

    時,「下等痛悔」足夠得到罪的赦免,「上等痛悔」則幫助我們增進與天主的關係,痛恨罪惡。

    別忘記在這五月份,我們要特別恭敬聖母啊!

  • A Message from Fr. Hamilton:

I am asking everyone along the back wall and

the sides to please take a seat – to go into a pew.

There is – at this point – no need to stand but it

also can become a safety issue if an emergency occurs

and everyone begins rushing out of the Church.

As well – when the Extra Ordinary Minister of

Holy Communion is distributing Communion there

can be no one standing around them and people along

the back wall limit the walking space in that area.

There is almost always seats available in the front area of the

Church, so I encourage people to come and sit in the front.

There can be no one sitting on the stairs leading

to the Choir loft. Again – this is a safety issue but

it is also unnecessary. You will be asked to get off

the stairs if you are sitting on them.

Finally, people should – ordinarily – not be leaving Church until the

priest is out of the main body of the Church. This obviously does not

    include serious reasons or emergencies.

  • A Guide To Celebrating Mary, Mother of the Church

In the Fourth Century, St. Ambrose of Milan used a beautiful title for the Blessed Virgin Mary: “Mother of the Church.” This title was officially used by Pope St. Paul VI during the Second Vatican Council.

In 2018, Pope Francis added a new feast to the Roman Calendar to be celebrated on the Monday after Pentecost: the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church.

What does this title mean? What does it mean that Mary is the Mother of the Church? A very good outline can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, par. 963-975. She is united with her Son, the prayer of the Church is devoted to her, and she is the vision of our future.

United With Her Son First, Mary is united with her Son. In fact, Mary’s role in the Church flows from her union with Christ and cannot be separated from it. She brought the Word made flesh into the world through her free cooperation. She provided Jesus with His human body. She was there as He grew. She was present at His first public miracle. She was there at the Passion and at the foot of the Cross, alongside the Redeemer. She was there when they laid Him in the tomb. She was there at His Resurrection, His Ascension, and was in the Upper Room with the Apostles at Pentecost.

She was the first and greatest disciple of Jesus Christ. She participated in the Redemption in the world. As a result, united so singularly with her Son, at the end of the course of her earthly life she was taken up, assumed, body and soul into Heaven.

By the grace of God, the Virgin Mary is our model of faith and charity. Jesus, by His saving work, restored to mankind supernatural life in souls. By Mary’s participation in this saving action, she became the new Eve, the new mother of all the living. In the order of grace, she is the mother of each and every person. She is our Advocate and Helper, pointing us always to her holy Son.

Aside from being the mother of every person, this connection is even more perfected in the baptized members of the Mystical Body of Christ. Through the life-giving waters of Baptism, we are entered into union with the Son of God and Son of Mary. And therefore, Mary’s motherhood becomes more perfect in our lives. She is the Mother of the Church.

The Prayer of the Church Mary, Mother of the Church is honored in the prayer life of the Church. Even before Pope Francis officially added this feast to the Roman Calendar, the Church everywhere and always has had great affection and veneration for the Blessed Virgin. As Mary herself foretold: “All generations will call me blessed (Lk 1:48).” Devotion to the Blessed Virgin is part of Christian worship. Out of love for the Lord, we honor His and our mother.

The Mother of God, the Theotokos, is not adored. Adoration belongs to God alone. However, she is greatly respected or venerated. We fly to her protection in danger and in all of our needs. There are a great many devotions to the Blessed Mother, including many beautiful Eastern prayers and, most notably in the West, the rosary. There are also many Marian liturgical feasts throughout the year. Each of these feasts draw us into the mystery of Mary which in turn brings us immediately to the mystery of Christ and the Gospel.

Eschatological Icon of the Church The eschaton is the final event in the divine plan for the world. It is the end of time as we know it. It is the beginning of eternity when all the living and the dead will be judged and the resurrection of the body will take place. Of course, Mary has foreshadowed this glorious event in her glorious Assumption. She goes before us as a model.

Mary, Mother of the Church is the eschatological icon of the Church. Even still on Earth, she shows us an image of the Church in eternity, praising God and cooperating with Him for all eternity.

In the origin, mission, and destiny of Holy Mother Church we can find no better model and example than Blessed Mother Mary. Even now in Heaven, the Mother of the Church awaits the entire Church’s coming to join her in the communion of saints and the glory of the Most Holy Trinity. For us still here on our earthly pilgrimage, Mary is a sign for us of the certain hope and comfort of Heaven..

How To Celebrate Mary, Mother of the Church One of the biggest mistakes I made last summer was letting my kids have screen time right after lunch, when their little brother went down for a nap. He napped for 2 hours, which ended up being way too much overstimulation for his siblings to handle, so I replaced the screen time after lunch with quiet reading time. They each had to spend at least 30 minutes reading quietly and another 30 engaged in some other form of quiet play, like coloring or crafts. They were only allowed to use screens after the full hour of quiet time was up — and I was surprised to find that at least half the time, they became so absorbed in their chosen quiet time activity that they never even asked for screens at all. Waking their brains up with healthy stimulation was often enough to keep them from craving the unhealthy over-stimulation of screen time.

The best way to honor the Blessed Mother is to speak with her and grow in relationship with she who loves you with a Mother ’s per-fect love. Here are a few ideas: Pray the rosary with your family. Sing one of the beautiful hymns of honor to our Blessed Lord’s Mother. Memorize and sing the chant that is associated with the time after Pentecost until Advent: the Salve Regina. If you have a statue of Mary, place it somewhere prominent and put flowers at her feet or a crown on her head. Pray a novena. Perhaps pray a Novena to the Immaculate Heart of Mary to end on the feast of Mary, Mother of the Church or any other day to honor Mary. Share the Miraculous Medal of our Lady. Read a book about Mary, such as True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis Marie de Monfort. Pray the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Learn about and be enrolled in the Brown Scapular of the Carmelites.
