The IVTs-Ì1(M2) (ÈÂÖ-Ì1(Ì2)) aerial target simulator is designated for training of surface-to-air missile (SAM) system combat crews at the level of the regiment, division and army corps in Air Defense, Air Force troops and Navy, consisting of firing at simulated modern and future-generation air targets, as well as for debugging and testing the newly-developed air defense systems.

The IVTs-Ì1(M2) has been developed by the Scientific and Industrial Unitary Enterprise «Tetraedr».

An IVTs-Ì1(M2) is installed in lieu of the standard 9Ì28D (9Ì22U) rocket warhead of the «Grad» salvo system, and provides the required radar cross section in the radar band (IVTs-Ì1,IVTs-M2) and irradiation in the optical wave band (IVTs-M2) (photo 1, 2).

3General Information

The modification « » simulates aerial targets only in the 2 - 4 cm radar band width.The modification « » aerial target simulator is the second one in the family of simulators

developed and manufactured by the UE «Tetraedr». An makes it possible to simulate aerial targets both in the 2 - 4 cm radar band width and in the optical range.

The « » of aerial target simulator modification shall be equipped with an active jammer, which will provide jamming in the 2 - 4 cm wave band.

The main performance characteristics of are presented in Fig.1.

Storage of IVTs-M1(M2)

Transportation of IVTs-M1(M2)

The meets the requirements for rocket-borne instrumentation (group 6.5, general climatic conditions per GOST V20.39.304-76 (ÃÎÑÒ Â20.39.304-76)), and maintains operability against the following physical impacts:

2- single mechanical shocks (along the axis) of 590 m/s (60 g) accelerations;0- prolonged storage in 98% humidity at 25 C.

IVTs-M1(M2)

The IVTs-M2 and IVTs-M2 (without tracers 9X44 and power supply elements) is explosion-safe, non-toxic, non-flammable.

The IVTs-M1(M2) can be transported in standard manufacturer packing by any means of transport over any distances.

IVTs-M1(M2) 0 0 are stored in the manufacturer packing under temperatures from minus 50 to plus 50 C, provided that the environment is free from fumes of acid, alkali and other aggressive gas or vapor.

Average service life: at least 10 years.

Guaranteed storage life: at least 3 years from the date of manufacture.

Service Employment IVTs-M1(M2)

Preparation of for employment is carried out by organic crews of the assigned BM-21 «Grad» salvo system. Preparation of for firing consists in:

- removing the and the missile 9M28D (9M22U) from their standard packing (photo 5);

- inserting and fixing the BP-01 illuminator with the 9X44 tracers and power supplies in the ;

- docking the with a 9Ì28D (9Ì22U) rocket engine section (Photo 6).

The standard 9Ì28D (9Ì22U) rocket engine sections do not need to be modified to carry the aerial target simulator, which makes preparation and launching of the simulator an easy and safe operation for BM-21 salvo system crews.
