WORLD SUGAR SITUATION (1/2)


Brazil intends to initiate consultations to open litigation against India in the World Trade Organization (WTO). The Foreign Trade Chamber (Camex) decided in a meeting on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, according to information shared by the Minister of Agriculture, Blairo Maggi, in social networking groups.

For 2018/19 crop year, Sugar mills in India struck export deals of around 1.2M MT for the new season that began from October, industry officials said Tuesday. So far, mills have exported around 0.2M MT of raw sugar to various

destinations. Indian sugar consignments have been contracted by Dubai-based Al Khaleej Sugar refinery and traders in neighboring nations such as Bangladesh and Sri Lanka

India's sugar production could fall in 2019/20 as farmers are struggling to plant cane because of a drought in two of the country's top producing states, according to multiple industry officials and traders. A drop in production would slash exports from the world's second-biggest sugar producer and support global prices that have fallen 15% so far in 2018.
