GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

The exhibitions at ABEL Neue Kunst debate the conditions of producing art in an age of dissolving cultural and media boundaries. Comparable to the advocats of Pop Art, the common thread of the gallery artists is not merely to focus on the portrayal or interpreta-tion of an immediate actual-ity, but rather to concentrate on the reflection of a reality, which is itself fragmented and determined by the media.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

The collapse of the Berlin wall brought forward an ideal condition for the production and development of contempo-rary art. Facing the challenge of a continuously redefining art scene, Arndt & Partner emphasised since 1994 a programme free of trends or (formal) standards. Arndt & Partner was amongst the first galleries to establish itself in the new centre and thus dedi-cating itself to the pioneering spirit of the time. The discovery of emerging Berlin artists and the formation of an international programme of artistic positions which had often not yet been exhibited in Berlin nor in Ger-many beforehand, have since then become the cornerstones of the gallery profile. Arndt & Partner has developed an international network operat-ing from Berlin which is further broadened by its branch in Zurich and from 2007 on by an office space in New York City.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

The gallery opened in Septem-ber 2005 with the group exhibi-tion Closing Down. Included in the show were works by Glenn Brown, Piero Golia, Paul Pfeiffer, Jack Pierson, David Salle and Piotr Uklanski. The gallery hosted the first solo exhibitions in New York for Hope Atherton, Scott King, Thomas Helbig, Avner Ben-Gal and Gary Webb. Our Spring 2006 outdoor exhibition, Survivor, curated by David Rimanelli, included 24 artists and challenged the endurance of their works by subjecting them to the weather. The summer exhibition War on 45, curated by Banks Violette, asked five artists to create show- specific works. This winter the gallery exhibited a collaborative effort by Jonathan Meese and Tal R, called Mother. Following this exhibition were Daniel Buren paintings from 1966 in our main gallery, and a new site specific installation in an outdoor space adjacent to the gallery. Solo exhi-bitions this year have included Piero Golia and Luigi Ontani.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Galleri Christina Wilson was founded five years ago in 2002. It is located in the progressive part of Copen-hagen – Islands Brygge.

Over the past five years we have held extensive separate exhibitions for each of the gallery‘s artists, while at the same time organising a num-ber of group presentations. At least once a year we have used the gallery as a kind of art hall, giving presentations of foreign artists in various group exhibitions. All of these exhibitions have presented both well-known and new interna-tional names, while helping to bring new dynamics and vital-ity to the Danish art scene.

The gallery‘s ambition is ongoing to present a range of ambitious international shows. We would like to make a dynamic interchange between the Danish and the international art scene and to enhance the possibilities for Danish and international artists.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Established in 1982 by Dvir Intrator.

Motivated by a sheer desire to introduce cutting-edge voices of contemporary art to both Israeli and international audiences, Dvir Gallery has established its reputation over the years as one of the lead-ing galleries for contemporary art. Representing a group of talented Israeli artists, the gallery is also engaged with international artists, who often create projects and works uniquely for Dvir‘s space. Such projects are realized under the framework of an exclu-sive international exchange scheme established by the gallery over a decade ago.

In 1997 Dvir Intrator founded the Hameorer periodical which focused on original Israeli literature along with up to date translations of classi-cal writings. Each issue is accompanied by related works created by different artists.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Galerie EIGEN + ART was founded in 1983 as a private gallery in Leipzig. Until 1989 the company was illegal, however the gallery with its numerous activities became a center for contemporary unadjusted art.1989 the plan appeared to enter the international art scene worldwide. Galerie EIGEN + ART started out with Tokyo, followed by Paris, Berlin, New York and London.

From the initially terminated project in Berlin 1992 Galerie EIGEN + ART of today emerged with two branches, one in Leipzig and the main office in Berlin. No doubt, today Berlin belongs to the most important places for contemporary art.On April 30th the Leipzig site will move from the premises of the historic cotton mill to a new space.

The young and progressive program of German and inter-national artists is assigning for Galerie EIGEN + ART. The artists of the gallery work in such different media as photo-graphy, painting, installation, video, sculpture and more.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Founded in Luxembourg in 1996, Erna Hécey organized numerous exhibitions and dynamic events over a ten-year period, with a focus on collaborative projects. Our first shows featured Fabrice Hyber, Marcel Broodthaers, Sophie Calle, Andres Serrano, Nan Goldin, Nedko Solakov, Thomas Hirschhorn, John Armleder, Peter Friedl and Lawrence Weiner. The gallery has participated in many art fairs since 1998, including Art Basel, FIAC and Art Brussel.

In 2005, Erna Hécey moved to a large industrial space in Brussels, designed by architects Lhoas & Lhoas. The larger space has allowed us to start parallel exhibitions, a mix of young and established artists, and a projects program, which highlights partic-ular artworks, historical works and creative art publications outside the standard exhibition format.

Most recently, the gallery has organized for Luxembourg 2007 European Capital of Culture Sophie Calle’s Douleur Exquise, set in a special installation designed by Frank Gehry and Edwin Chan.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Since the beginning of 2003, the gallery has been working with selected national and inter-national artists. Central to the gallery‘s program are cultural and historical subtexts, which are communicated through abstract and figurative repre-sentation. The analytical use of different themes and materials by the artists of the gallery creates a visual, non-verbal language that constitutes a contemporary approach that is poetic and experimen-tal as well as critical.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

PATRICIA LOW CONTEMPO-RARY is the only gallery dealing in Contemporary Art in Gstaad. Located in the heart of the village, PLC’s mission is to show the work of today’s best international artists.

This year a new exciting project is born: an artist-in-residence program. In a hamlet not far from where Balthus has lived and worked all his life, artists will be hosted in a beautiful 18th century chalet called La Maison Jaune. There, we will host a minimum of three residencies per year, and publish a book recording this unique artistic process.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

nina menocal gallery believes in fresh proposals, hardly seen in the international con-temporary fairs and biennials. We believe in new tastes and tendencies in art and consider artistic contemporary language and new technologies as ever continuous challenges. The gallery, established in 1990, focuses on contemporary art.

Between 1990 and 1993, the gallery showed the first commercial and solo exhibitions and produced the first catalogs of Cuban artists, the generation of the 1980’s, which the gallery brought almost in its entirety to Mexico. nina menocal also presented the work of legendary Cuban American Félix González- Torres for the first time in Mexico, together with the Cuban artists.

Today, the gallery coordinates other three national and inter-national projects: nmprojects, for young curators, ninart-havana, collector’s program in Havana, and is one of the organizers of bâlelatina, the new contempo-rary art fair in Basel.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

MOGADISHNI presents an experimental line of young Scandinavian and international contemporary art projects; a profile that was established in 2000, when Christian Chapelle started the leisure club MOGA-DISHNI, which was then a non-profit space. MOGADISHNI was commercialized in 2001.Since 2003, MOGADISHNI has been situated in the industrial area of Valby, covering 300 m2 in a former factory building. This relocation has inspired other galleries, and today Valby is the most significant contemporary art area in Copenhagen. In addi-tion to MOGADISHNI in Valby, Chapelle opened a second exhi-bition space in Aarhus in 2006.

The artists represented by the gallery have been displayed in Biennials, museums and galleries worldwide, and works by the artists are in important public and private collections.

MOGADISHNI has participated in several art fairs, including The Armory Show, New York (05), Liste, Basel (05, 06, 07), NADA, Miami (05), ART FORUM BERLIN (05) and ARCO, Madrid (02, 04).

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Indigenous people living near the Brisbane River were invited to propose an alternate route for the CityCat, a popular water taxi used by students, com-muters and tourists. Elder Sam Watson Sr. selected a site on the river’s bank. This place is the location of the Kurilpa (water rat) dreaming story, and lies upon the historic boundary that excluded Aborigines from the city after dark. Here it was determined that 3-4 Aboriginal people would gather while two others would board the CityCat. As the ferry neared the site it diverged from its usual course, brought its bows to face the bank, and slowed to a stop near shore. While the CityCat drifted in the current, the Aboriginal people aboard the boat and upon the shore stood and silently acknowledged each other. After several seconds the CityCat reversed engines and abruptly returned to its usual course. The deflection was unannounced; the Aboriginal people onboard were the only source of information available to other passengers.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Pierogi, founded in 1994, is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (US) – an area now vital to the larger art community because of its concentration of diverse artists and its innova-tive gallery scene. Pierogi has monthly solo shows which fea-ture the work of emerging and mid-career artists in an eclectic range of media – from the dia-grammatic drawings of Mark Lombardi and the performance installations of Ward Shelley, to the panoramic and filmic drawings of Dawn Clements; as well as curated exhibitions such as the award-winning Dead Tree installation (a recreation of the Robert Smithson work originally shown in Dusseldorf’s Kunsthalle, 1969). The Flat Files are another important aspect of Pierogi – they hold portfolios of original works by 750+ artists. The traveling Flat Files have been exhibited in London, Vienna, San Francisco, Los Angeles and elsewhere. In 2006 Pierogi opened a sec-ond gallery space in Leipzig, Germany, where we exhibit the work of international artists.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Since 1973 Produzentengalerie Hamburg has developed from a ‘producer’s gallery’ with a predominantly local focus into one of the most pioneering gal-leries in Germany with a regular presence at international art fairs. Focusing on artistic production between the early 1980’s and the present, Produzentengalerie has always been interested in representing broad interpretations of classic artistic media, ranging from conceptual positions such as Andreas Slominski, to sculptural productions such as Thomas Schütte, and to the paintings of Norbert Schwontkowski. In the past few years Produzenten-galerie has successfully brought these positions into relation with the work of younger artists. Last year, for example, the gallery organized solo shows for Thomas Scheibitz, Jonas Burgert, and Ulla von Brandenburg. This year, exhibitions are planned with Nicole Wermers and Yesim Akdeniz Graf. It is the dynamism of a younger generation that has had a con-siderable impact on the gallery’s profile today.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

RONMANDOS gallery is a frontrunner of the Dutch art scene. Operating since 1999, the gallery has built up a reputation for producing highly professional shows of great intellectual and aesthetic inter-est and wide artistic range. The actual developments in contemporary art are what RONMANDOS gallery is keen to present. Occupying two very different but complementing locations in Rotterdam and Amsterdam, a platform is given to those works where the com-plex interrelations of artist, art-work and everyday experience are played out; where new and dynamic ways of representation are continually sought; where light is shed on unexpected and previously hidden aspects of everyday experience. It is the commitment to presenting work of such quality that has allowed RONMANDOS to have been a rapidly developing running ven-ture and which will ensure its continued success in the future.

Galerie Jette Rudolph GmbH is a gallery for emerging Ger-man and international artists, founded 2003 in Berlin Mitte. The gallery represents artists who redefine traditional for-mats with a new contemporary iconography. Therefore the deeper focus of the gallery asks for the psychological and social identification of the individuals in relation to the urban, virtual and artifical structures and aesthetics in this world addicted to media.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Let‘s Be Honest, The Weather Helped

Like many around me in Beirut in the early 1980‘s, I collected bullets and shrapnel. I would run out to the streets after a night of shelling to remove bullets from walls, cars, and trees. I kept detailed notes of where I found every bullet by photographing the sites of my findings, and by placing colored dots over the bullet holes in my black and white photographs. The color of the dots corre-sponded to the mesmerizing hues I found on bullets‘ tips. The colors were also faithful to the distinct code devised by manufacturers in different coun-tries to mark their cartridges and shells. Over the years, and to complement my collection, I purchased bullets from vendors on the streets, seeking out the entire spectrum of colors that adorned the tips (…). It took me 25 years to realize that my note-books had all along catalogued the 23 countries that had armed or sold ammunitions to the various militias and armies fight-ing the Lebanese wars (…).

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Featuring such important art-ists as Georg Baselitz, Sigmar Polke and Gerhard Richter, Springer & Winckler Gallery represents the “Old Masters” among German contempo-raries. But it also includes younger works such as those of the British landscape art-ist Andy Goldsworthy or the French artist Georges Rousse, whose photographed installa-tions seem to play with conven-tional viewing habits by fusing real space and painted interven-tion. A sense of hidden humour can be found in the almost sur-realistic black-and-white photo-graphs by Anna and Bernhard Blume and is also manifested in the work of the former police-man Arnold Odermatt, who documented accidents and bureaucratic life in Switzerland for fifty years. All of them have become fixtures of today’s contemporary art. In 2006 a new position had been included in the gallery programme: The video-pictures by Lohner & Carlson fill the gap between traditional painting and video-art, concentrating mainly on the classical topic of landscape.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Finnish photographers of the Helsinki School have become one of the most successful artistic groups in Europe. A second book with works of the internationally acknowledged artists has just been published by German Hatje-Cantz-Verlag. At ART FORUM BERLIN, New Photography by TaiK, represents works of over 30 of the photographers, who have been studying or teach-ing at TaiK, the University of Art and Design in Helsinki.

The concept of the Helsinki School is not defined by a specific photographic style or by the nationality of the photo-graphers. It more represents a common approach, a common way of thinking that has evolved out of the way of teaching at the University of Art and Design, where each generation is given the chance to invent itself.

GALLERY INFORMATION GALERIEINFORMATIONEN

Zderzak opened in 1985 as an underground gallery, indepen-dent of the communist regime. Since the very beginning, Zderzak has been the watch-post for current art develop-ments and a venue of important debuts (Wilhelm Sasnal 1999, Marcin Maciejowski 2000). The gallery carries out research, publishes books, catalogues and limited editions of special artists‘ publications. Rediscovering the masters of Polish post-war art (Andrzej Wróblewski) as well as hitherto underestimated art currents (structural painting of the 60‘s), Zderzak gives significant impulses to the art market in Poland.
