Weekend tragedyBy Isabel Venter
What was supposed to be a weekend of fun turned into tragedy, when three young men passed away in a gruesome accident on Satur-day night.
Rotondwa Tsotang Maliavusa (21), Clarrance Raphala (19) and Vhatali Nemavhola (age could not be confi rmed) were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a taxi. Ro-tondwa was driving the Toyota Corolla of his aunt, Vhatali’s mother. Rotondwa is a former pupil of High School Louis Trichardt and news of the fatal accident sent shock waves through fellow friends and learners.
According to information provided by the po-lice, the trio were driving in an easterly direction on the Madombidzha road. Just a few kilometres before Louis Trichardt, Rotondwa apparently lost control of the vehicle at a bend in the road. A taxi belonging to Matshavha Bros was travelling in the opposite direction.
It is suspected that the three young men’s vehicle then veered into the oncoming taxi’s lane and the two vehicles collided head-on. Rotondwa and Vha-tali were killed on impact. Clarrance, who was sit-ting in the back, was rushed to the Louis Trichardt Memorial Hospital but died shortly after arrival.
The taxi was carrying two passengers, who suf-fered minor cuts and bruises and received medical treatment on the scene of the accident.
The police indicated that they have opened a case of culpable homicide to determine the exact cause of the accident. They were not willing to reveal preliminary details about the case as the investi-gation was still ongoing. A spokesperson from the police’s provincial communications offi ce, Capt Nelufulu, confi rmed on Tuesday that the taxi’s roadworthiness will be determined as part of the investigation. Rumours that Rotondwa did not have a valid driver’s licence will also be investigated.
Rotondwa and his friends’ tragic death comes not even a month after the MEC for Transport, Mrs Mapula Mokbaba Phukwana, warned about Limpopo’s dangerous roads.
During April, in her department’s budget speech for the period 2016/17, she warned that drastic measures should be put in place to protect the safety of motorists on the province’s roads. She mentioned that Limpopo, after KwaZulu-Natal, was the province with the most road fatalities.
Throughout the 2015/16 fi nancial year, a total of 1 622 motorists were arrested for drunk driving and a further 2 873 for their vehicles’ not being roadworthy.
For this reason Phukwana indicated that her department would apply the bulk of their budget to reduce road fatalities and make provincial roads safer for both pedestrians and motorists.
Sadly, Phukwana’s resolve was too late for Rotondwa, Clarrance and Vhatali. While res-cue workers were still struggling to remove Rotondwa and Vhatali’s bodies from the wreck-age, the police arrested a man on the accident scene on suspicion of drunk driving. The man was on his way to Ma-dombidzha and stopped at the accident scene. While enquiring from the police and rescue workers why the road had been blocked off, he allegedly became rowdy and was arrested.

There are many ways in which people can promote their businesses. They can advertise it on billboards, on radio, on television, on the internet or they can print thousands of pamphlets and dump it all over town.
At the end it is a responsible choice.
Newspaper advertising is highly effective way of bringing a message across. It is also a way in which advertisers sponsor local news and by doing so create more informed and healthier communities.
When last did you complain about bad service to a billboard?
When last did you ask a billboard when the municipal strike will end?
When last did you see a picture of local people celebrating their achievements on a billboard?

Maandag was AfriFo-
079 298 2676.

Me.
Munisipale gesondheidsinspekteur mnr.

6 ZOUTPANSBERGER, 20 MAY 2016
By Andries van Zyl
Children across the world struggling with their eyesight are still reaping the benefits of one man’s vision to make a difference in their lives.
Koen van Pottelbergh, an optometrist from Belgium, and his team from Eyes For The World (EFTW), a non-profit foundation he started, has one goal in life - to help improve people’s eye-sight. He and his team were first welcomed to the Soutpansberg by Louis Trichardt’s Agora Club Amarula ladies in April last year. In partnership with their sister club in Belgium (Agora Lokeren Belgium), they invited Koen as part of an inter-national support project.
During the EFTW team’s visit last year, Agora Club Amarula tested 1 068 children and gave out 120 sets of spectacles from EFTW. Coupled with this, Sanrie du Plessis from the local Specsavers branch also bought into this project and subsequent-ly provided 15 children with prescription glasses for eye problems ranging from astigmatism to more serious eye conditions such as keratosis.
The EFTW project entails testing children’s eyes and giving them a pair of spectacles if needed. But these aren’t just ordinary spectacles. They are the product of years of research and development, allowing Koen and his team to hand each child in need thereof a pair of spectacles within five min-utes after testing starts – at no charge and with no waiting period to have the spectacles made. For this purpose, Koen makes use of adjustable spectacles (Adspecs) or focussed spectacles (Focusspecs). These spectacles were specifically developed for this project. With the Adspecs, high-quality sili-cone gel is pumped in between two durable plastic membranes. It allows for 50 optical variants, all possible in one pair of spectacles. Focusspecs, on the other hand, make use of an adjustable slide lens system whereby two lenses are slid across each other to the required magnification.
Following Koen’s visit last year and a promise to return to the region, much has happened to give the project momentum worldwide. The successful teamwork between Agora Club Lokeren (who fundraised for this project), Agora Club Amarula (who carried out this project in Elim last year) and Koen and his EFTW team, inspired Veerle de Jonge from Agora Club Belgium and Sandy van Niekerk from Agora Club South Africa to motivate this project as an Agora Club International Project. The teamwork between these three parties also inspired Agora ladies from 18 other countries to adopt this project and start raising funds to help children in underprivileged countries.
As conveners of the Agora EFTW project, both Veerle and Sandy have been inspired by the overwhelming support. Subsequently, Agora Club Morocco held a very successful project where they screened over 1 000 learners and handed out 250 pairs of focusspecs with the help of Agora Club International countries, who raised the necessary funds. Agora Club Madagascar has also recently screened learners and identified those with eyesight problems. They now await a visit from the EFTW team. Closer to home, Agora Club Botswana is next in line and will be screening children in September when Koen and the EFTW come back to Africa and to the Soutpansberg.
Agora Club Amarula has, however, not rested on its laurels while awaiting the EFTW team’s return to the Soutpansberg. On 10 May they visited the Tshiitwa Secondary School in Mashamba, where they screened 135 learners. Sanrie and Specsavers co-worker Patrick Muleya again joined the Agora ladies. Through this project, 12 learners received focusspecs on site, while 15 have been diagnosed with astigmatism and one with keratosis. These children will soon be issued with spectacles. They were also able to help three children with serious eye infections by providing them with the medi-cation. “A huge thank you must go to the princi-pal of Tshiitwa School Mr Ramusilei, as well as educator Mr Mashamba, for receiving us so well and for the obvious care and interest they take in the wellbeing of their learners. This project would also not be possible without the support of the Limpopo Department of Education and Mrs Nelly Tklakula, as well as with the amazing support of Sanrie and Patrick from Louis Trichardt Specsa-vers,” said Sandy.
Their vision is still to restore people’s vision

10 ZOUTPANSBERGER, 20 MAY 2016
This week’s story starts with a general, moves to a pres-ident and then pays a visit to two kings. As usual the focus is on the events in history that made the Sout-pansberg such a unique place.
History is often controversial and people tend to disagree on the factual presentation thereof. For this reason a lot of publications prefer to avoid the conflict and focus on the less “problemat-ic” news. We thought about that route and decided against it. (Would you have expected anything else?)
The reality is that none of us can change the history. We can only learn from history. (Although George Bernard Shaw is quoted as saying “We learn from history that we learn nothing from history.”) And if nothing else, it always makes for interesting read-ing, especially if there is a mystery surrounding it.
Readers with informa-tion on the streets not yet covered in the series must please contact Anton at [email protected] or Pétria at [email protected].

Burger Street
compiled by HM Anderson in December 1898 and January 1899, a few interesting aspects stand out. The original map spells the name of the street as Burgers Street. It is possible that the street name was simply misspelt (Kruger Street is also spelled as Krugers Street), but there seems to be a pattern. The three streets, President, Kruger and Burgers, run parallel to each other, which may indicate a theme. Could the street perhaps have been named after one of the most controversial presidents of the ZAR, TF Burgers?
Thomas Francois Burger was born in the Graaff-Reinet district on 15 April 1834. After fi n-ishing school, he travelled to Utrecht in
the Netherlands to study theology. It was also while abroad that he started adding an “s” to his sur-name. He married a Scottish lady, Mary Bryson, and out of this marriage 10 children were born. In 1859 he accepted a post as reverend in the Dutch Reformed congregation of Hanover in the Karoo.
Early in his career, Burg-ers had to become used to controversy and criticism. In August 1862, an elder of a neighbouring congregation
complained to the
The challenge in this series is often to fi nd the “local angle” in the street names of our town.
It is a series about the history of the Soutpans-berg and its people, which also means that we’re less interested in people who have never been here or who did not play a signifi cant role in the development of the area. Some streets, however, were named after people who have never even set foot in the region.
When Burger Street was mentioned, the fear was that this would be a diffi cult street to feature. The fi rst problem was to establish who exactly the street had been named after. It is also not as though there are detailed minutes available from the late 1800s that explain the rationale for naming the streets. One gets the impression that the naming of streets was done on the spur of the moment and left up to the land surveyors and cartog-raphers.
The fi rst guess was that Burger Street had been named after the famous General Schalk Burger. He was born in 1852 in the Lyden-burg district and was well known in politi-cal circles. He served as a member of the “Volksraad” of the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republic, and in 1898 he even stood against Paul Kruger for president. He lost this election, but less than a year later he was pro-moted to general and took part in the Anglo Boer War. When Commandant-General Piet Joubert died in March 1900, Burger became vice-presi-dent and later acted as president when Paul Kru-ger visited Europe. General Schalk Burger was one of the signatories to the Vereeniging peace treaty that marked the end of the Boer War.
If we were less inquisitive, this would probably have been it (and this week’s contribution would have been short), but this was not to be. When looking a bit closer at the original town map,
Could a future king of the Bavenda have grown up in the house of a ZAR president?
church authorities that Rev Burgers was heard teaching a false doctrine. Among the things that Burgers is alleged to have said, was that there was no description in the Bible of the devil. Burgers apparently stated that nowhere was it mentioned that the devil had a tail. Burgers was also accused of having said that Jesus, during his life on earth, had human traits. Jesus would, for example, be hungry, thirsty and afraid and would have had a sinful human nature.
This charge, however, marked the start of a long battle that eventually had to be decided by the courts. After being found guilty by the Dutch Reformed Church, Burgers took the matter to the High Court, arguing that the church had never followed its own rules. The High Court ruled in his favour and ordered the church to pay the costs of the case. The church then took the matter to the Privy Council in London, asking this body to set the verdict aside. In February 1867, the Privy
Council ruled against the Dutch Reformed Church. The church lead-ers were still not satisfi ed and wanted to petition the Queen of England to intervene. After being told by two senior advocates in London that they had almost no chance of success with this appeal, the church eventually backed down, and in Octo-ber 1870 Burgers was allowed to preach again.
It was, however, clear that Burgers’s more enlightened view on theology would not go down well with all members of the Dutch Reformed Church. In a strange twist of fate, he was dragged into politics and less than two years later, in July 1872, he became the president of the Zuid-Afri-kaansche Republic. He was then only 38 years old.
Much can be said for the manner in which Burgers became president, but space in this article does not allow for it. Suffi ce to say that he arrived on the scene when the “old” leaders had left (hurriedly) and the new ones had not yet es-tablished themselves. New blood was needed and the republic needed someone strong to try and sort out the mess that president MW Pretorius left behind when he resigned. The country was in dire fi nancial straits and the armed forces had to deal with several wars that were brewing. The ideal candidates for the position of president, such as President Brand from the Free State, did not want the job. At this stage we must pause and ask what all this meant for the people of the Soutpansberg? Is there any local angle to the history of Pres TF Burgers? Well, there may be, but from a com-pletely different angle.
In the book of Dr Uys de Villiers Pienaar, Neem uit die Verlede, a photo appears of the Venda king, Makhado.
In the photo, Makhado poses with his wife, described as the daughter of the Basotho king, Moshoeshoe. Interestingly enough the caption further states that the godfather of their child was Pres TF Burgers. To add a bit of spice to the mystery, a very interesting picture appears in the biography of TF Burgers, written by PS Engel-brecht. In this book, Burgers is photographed on the porch of his farm house along with his wife and daughters. The caption merely states “Presi-dent Burgers with his family on the stoep.” Right in the middle of the photo sits a neatly dressed black boy, complete with traditional shirt.
Could it be that the ZAR president took in the son of a Venda king and raised him as his own?
To answer this question, one probably has to look at it from a variety of angles.
(Continues on p11)

ZOUTPANSBERGER, 20 MEI 2016 11(Continued from p10)A starting point would be the documents and
writings left behind by Burgers. A highly respected US historian, Prof Lindsay
Braun, could not fi nd any direct evidence of such a son in the Burgers household. Even Jan van der Merwe, a South African historian who wrote several pieces on the history of Burgers, could not shed more light on the matter. Both could confi rm that Burgers was very liberal in his thinking and an enigma in his time.
When Burgers became president of the ZAR in 1872, he was not accepted with open arms. Paul Kruger, Piet Joubert and DJ Erasmus were very much against his appointment. He was under enormous pressure from Lord Carnarvon, the British minister of colonies, to incorporate the Transvaal into the rest of the British colonies. The international community also pressurized the ZAR to take stronger action against practices described as disguised slavery.
When Burgers took up offi ce, he inherited the highly controversial pass law, pushed through during DJ Erasmus’s brief reign. This law pre-scribed that every black resident of the ZAR, with the exception of traditional leaders, women and children, had to purchase a pass from the local “landdrost” or “veldkornet” at a cost of £1. The law, which became effective on 1 January 1873, also meant that black residents with a pass would be regarded as citizens of the state.
The pass laws were not popular and it quickly became clear that the implementation of such a system would be doomed to failure. Burgers, with his more liberal views, found himself more and more isolated.
It is interesting to note that, in the mid-1870s, Burgers suggested a system whereby black resi-dents of the country who showed a willingness to work, should be awarded full citizen’s rights and have the opportunity to own land.
The time was, however, not right for such drastic steps and at the end of Burgers’s term as president, no law had been passed whereby black people could obtain land in the ZAR.
However, we have to move back to the Sout-pansberg and explore some other angles to judge whether or not it was possible for Burgers to be the godfather of a Venda child.
The marriage between Makhado and the daughter of Moshoeshoe is not unlikely. Makha-do was born in 1825 and reigned from around 1865 until his death in 1895. King Moshoeshoe lived from 1786 to 1870. A daughter of Mo-shoeshoe would thus have been in the age group for Makhado to marry.
When Moshoeshoe was still a young boy (and apparently quite a “rebel”) he was taken to the great African philosopher and diplomat, Mohlo-mi. Mohlomi travelled across southern Africa, visiting different tribes and forming bonds of friendship. During his earlier years, Mohlomi also visited the Vhavenda. Moeshoeshoe would have learned from this and would also have had contact with his northern neighbours.
The writer, Max du Preez, writes about Mo-shoeshoe’s manner in which he ruled: “But he had another clever method to assure peace and respect for his authority: he married women from chiefdoms and clans in his region – among them San, Zulu and Xhosa speakers. The chief of a clan whose daughter was married to Moshoeshoe would think twice before attacking him. By the time he was 60, Moshoeshoe had more than 150 wives.”
The practice of allowing a daughter to marry a chief from another tribe would have made diplomatic sense. For Moshoeshoe it would have made sense to also form strong bonds with the ZAR government.
Du Preez writes: “He spent the last 40 years of his life using all his diplomatic and negotiating skills to protect his people from being swamped by the Boers, who were mostly supported in their quest for land and sovereignty by British colonial offi cials from the Cape Colony.”
Whether the child of such a marriage would be sent away to live with a white family is perhaps doubtful. The practice of sending the king’s chil-dren to live in far-off villages was, however, not uncommon. This was often done to protect the child from his future enemies.
In the Venda custom, the new heir would not necessarily be the fi rst-born son of the mahosi or the fi rst son from a specifi c wife. The prerogative to choose a successor would be that of the royal family, and more specifi cally the khosimunene (uncle) and makhadzi (aunt). This was a secret decision only announced a year after the death of the ruling king.
We do, however, need to return to Pres Burgers and his struggle to transform the ZAR, the government on the brink of bankruptcy that he had “inherited”.
Burgers took a bold step and borrowed some £60 000 from the Cape Commercial Bank to rescue the govern-ment’s currency. He also arranged for the fi rst Burger pounds to be minted in Birmingham, England. To upset the old establishment even further, he stopped the payments to members of the commandos because he be-lieved the government could simply not afford this.
One of TF Burgers’s dreams was for the ZAR to have its own railway line, opening up the trade route to the then Delagoa Bay. In 1875 he travelled to Europe
The description of the photo in U de Villiers Pienaar’s book states that it is of King Makhado with his wife, who was a daughter of King Moshoeshoe. The godfather of their child was Pres TF Burgers, it is stated.
The photo that appears in TF Burgers’s biography shows a well-dressed young black boy as part of the family.
to raise money for this ambitious project. He managed to convince the Portuguese government to support the project and on 8 January 1876 the deal was signed whereby the fi rm Insinger agreed to lend the money to the ZAR to build the railway line.
One aspect where Burgers had failed, was to muster the support of his colleagues. When the war against Sekhukhune broke out in 1876, neither Paul Kruger nor Piet Joubert wanted to help him. They still blamed him for disbanding the commando service. Burgers eventually had to take out mortgages on his farms in the Richmond area to fi nance this war.
During all this time, the British authorities were searching for excuses to include the Trans-vaal in their colonies. Burgers was well aware of the fact that Sir Henry Barkley and Lord Carnar-von had defi nite plans to bring British rule to the ZAR, but his fellow “volksraadslede” did not believe him.
On 22 January 1877, Sir Theophilus Shepstone rode into Pretoria, followed by 25 policemen and eight offi cials. Their “friendly” visit to discuss certain grievances ended up in what can be de-scribed as a hostile take-over. Shepstone argued that the ZAR had become an unstable factor in South Africa.
The government was bankrupt, Burgers was not popular and the war-mongering black tribes put everyone at risk, was the message. Burgers objected, but on 12 April 1877 Shepstone offi cial-ly proclaimed that Transvaal is part of the British empire. In May 1877, Burgers left Transvaal to settle on an ostrich farm in the Hanover district. In 1879 he moved to a farm he had hired in the Richmond area. On 9 December 1881, after being sick for some time, he died as a relatively poor man in Richmond.
In later years president Paul Kruger did a lot to defend Burgers and seemingly realised the wisdom of his predecessor. “Hij had zijn Land en Volk erg lief, maar was zijn tyd ver vooruit,” he said during a public meeting in Rustenburg in 1898. (He loved his land and nation very much, but he was way ahead of his time.)
As far as the mysterious black son in the family picture is concerned – it most probably is not the son of Makhado. Prof Lindsay Braun, the US writer and historian, reckons the photo in De Villiers Pienaar’s book is not that of the Venda king. He suggests that it is rather a photo of Chief Mokgatle, the Bafokeng leader from the Rusten-burg area, who was often referred to as Makgato. “He was a Christian, sent his sons to school abroad, and was quite favoured by Burgers,” writes Braun.
Mokgatle’s visits to Moshoeshoe are well recorded and in 1861 he lived in Lesotho for roughly fi ve years as guest of the Basotho king. The sons, perhaps under infl uence of Burgers, eventually went to study theology in the Nether-lands. Interestingly enough, this visit was made possible by another ZAR president, Paul Kruger. More about Kruger, however, in a next article.

Competition
Science Fiction and Fantasy South Africa (SFF-SA) is once again hosting their Nova short story competition.
The competition has been running since 1970, with the first judge being the esteemed Arthur Bleksley.
This year, prizes to the value of R3 500 are up for grabs. The prizes are co-sponsored by the published author, technocrat and science fiction buff Arthur Goldstuck of WorldWideWorx.com.
“Download the excellent fanzine, Probe, from http://www.sffsa.org.za/probe.html#Downloads for free and take a look at some of the stories written by recent winners. Can you do better? Of course you can! So, prove it! Enter Nova 2016 and face judgement day. Even if you don’t win a prize,
your story could get published in the world-famous fanzine, Probe,” invite the organisers.
There is no age restriction on authors. Profes-sional and amateur authors are both welcome. “So are South Africans and aliens, terrestrial and extra-terrestrial alike. It doesn’t matter if you’ve won a prize in a previous Nova - or any other - short story competition. And you may submit as many entries as you like,” say the organisers.
There is a restriction on the stories, however. Stories must be in the science fiction and fantasy genre, and between 2 000 and 8 000 words. There are a few other rules as well. Stories must be original and previously unpublished, and there is an entrance fee. Download all the rules and an entry form from sffsa.org.za/Nova.html or email the organiser at [email protected] for more information.

Life Changing Procedures
Ad designed by Zoutnet Publishers
The Roundtable is a global non-profi t organisation that is focus on helping and supporting the community where other “Good will” organisations is unable to assist in the desperate needs of the various communities. Roundtable 66 is no exception. We operate namely in the Louis Trichardt community.
The funds collected during this project will be allocated to the RT66 Hospital Fund for Life Changing Procedures which gets administrated by the Roundtable 66. All funds will be deposited into the Round Table 66 Projects bank account. To be a ben-efi ciary on these funds one must apply to the Roundtable 66 committee and submit all details relating to the disease and the assistance required.
The Roundtable 66 committee will then get in contact with the Doctors/Specialists involved to verify the information and get their recommendation. Funds will then be paid over directly to the relevant Doctors/Specialists, Account Administrators (Usually Attorneys) or hospitals upon receiving their invoices.
Being part a global organisation as Roundtable we have to submit fi nancial docu-ments to our Roundtable governing body whereby our records is 100% open for the public for viewing purposes.
How will the funds be allocated?Roundtable is usually the last resort, in other words we usually only help people when:• They have (if possible) also tried to raise funds for their needed procedures;
and or if• They get referred to us by CANSA, Churches, Hospitals, Schools and other local
Charity Programs that has no further means available to assist them;• We have had some cases in the last 3 months whereby we were unable to assist
individuals due to fi nancial constraints:

Clemour makes it to the Top 8 of The Voice SA
By Thendo Savhasa
The 24-year-old singer from Waterval, Clement “Clemour” Ngobeni, has reached the Top Eight stage of M-Net’s TV competition, The Voice South Africa.
Clemour received a standing ovation from coach Lira and Kahn after his dynamic and passionate ren-dition of South African Rock band Prime Circle’s hit song, She always gets what she wants.
The University of Johannesburg student indicat-ed that he had a great time during Sunday’s perfor-mance. “I enjoyed the performance and I loved the song that I was performing,” said Clemour.
Following last Sunday’s show, the fate of Clemour and the other seven contestants are to be determined by the viewers’ votes.
The competition has reached the Top 8 stage,
where all four coaches are left with two contestants in their teams. The viewers’ votes will determine which four contestants will perform in the final round of the competition this coming Sunday.
Clemour secured his spot in the competition during the “blind” auditions where three coaches turned their chairs for him, and he became part of #TeamKahn, led by The Parlotones front man Kahn Morbee.
The rising star has been commended on several occasions for the hard work he does to hone his talent and also for the passion he displays during his performances.
Clemour said that he was grateful for the support he had been receiving from people from all over who continuously showed that they believed in his dream by voting for him.
The voting ends on Thursday night (19th).

Daar is min dinge
siek kleuter sal hanteer.
“Kathy! Kathy!!”Daar is ‘n geweldige geraas en ‘n
getimmer.“Kathy, Kathyyyyyyy! Maak oop
En hoekom kry my man so ‘n vuurwarm omhelsing en jy groet my nie eers nie? Nee hel, man...”
“Drank,” prewel Kathy.
Toe Bernard haar neersit, begin sy dadelik rondsnuffel. Bernard kry haar net betyds buite.
“Daisy,” kry Kathy haar stem terug. “Hy leef. Bernard leef!”
“Ja, my liewe Daisy.

Foto verskaf.
Watch out Tiger Woods!Watch out Tiger Woods, because young Jimmy “Tiger” Musandiwa is on his way.
The 13-year-old Grade 6 pupil at Soutpansberg Primary School became one of only a select few golfers who can claim to have hit a hole-in-one in their golfing career.
Lady luck was smiling down on him on Saturday, 14 May, when he managed exactly that – hitting a hole-in-one on the second hole (Par 3) at the Soutpansberg Golf Club during the annual Sanlam Cancer Challenge.
Dad Willie, also a very keen golfer, said on Tuesday that he was very happy for his son. “I do, however, want him to remember that education comes first,” Willie said.
Young “Tiger” Musandiwa takes his golf seri-ously. He receives coaching from the South African Golf Development Board and plays from a 10 handicap. If he keeps up his good form, it might just cost his dad more than he planned for. As part of the golfing tradition, any person who hits a hole-in-one at any club must buy all players a drink at the bar afterwards. Being under-aged, Jimmy did not have to do this, but his dad was not as lucky. He ended up having to buy everybody a drink.
Hole-in-ones are a rarity at the Soutpansberg Golf Club, with the last one being hit on 28 Feb-ruary 2015.
Young Jimmy “Tiger” Musandiwa with the 7-iron and ball he hit the hole-in-one with on Saturday at the Soutpansberg Golf Club.
These three rugby players from Eric Louw High School in Musina all advanced to the final round of trials for the Limpopo team on 17 May in Polokwane. Pictured here are, from left to right, Mr Johan Minnie (principal), Success Phiri, Walter Masindi and Bekapi Kunlande. Photo supplied.
