‘n Ongelisensieerde vuurwapen is daarin gevind, waarna dié wapen, asook Scholtz se agt ander gelisensieerde vuurwapens, summier gekonfi skeer is.

After the success of the Realty1 Cookie Hand Out on Spring Day in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), Gwen Loots and her team decided to share some home-baked cupcakes and muffi ns with the residents of Herfsakker and Laat Lente on Saturday, 17 November. The previous day, the whole Realty Property Group joined in to help bake more than 300 cupcakes.

Canadian mining company Diamcor Mining Incorporated has secured an additional US$4 million loan from its strategic alliance partner Tiffany & Co. for their Krone-Endora diamond mine in the Soutpans-berg-area.

Diamcor made this announce-ment last Friday. The news of the additional funds that Diamcor acquired follows after Diamcor made it known in August this year that they had unearthed several thousand individual dia-monds at Krone-Endora.

Until the end of August, Di-amcor had recovered individual diamonds with a total combined weight, before acidizing, of

approximately 1 214.86 carats. Of these, the company was very pleased to note that 85 rough diamonds were 1 carat or larger.

In the meantime, Tiffany’s subsidiary, Tiffany & Co Can-ada, will provide the fi nancing through a US$2.4 million term loan and a $1.6 million convert-ible debt debenture. Diamcor said that the fi nancing will advance Krone-Endora.

Pursuant to the loan’s closing, Diamcor will use the funds to procure equipment and expand the quarrying and in-fi eld screen-ing operational capacity of the mine.

Diamcor president and CEO Dean Taylor said, “We believe

deploying this additional equip-ment now will allow us to fur-ther enhance results which are already meeting or exceeding our expectations and provide us with the ability to expedite our overall goals and targets for the long term.”

All the activities that are cur-rently underway at Krone-En-dora, however, still form part of Diamcor’s testing exercises. This is due to the fact that the Department of Mineral Rights has yet to give the green light for the mine’s mining right licence. The company indicated that the process is underway and that they are confi dent of a favourable response from the department.

Fighting spreads as Mangaung nearsAs the race to the ANC electoral congress in Mangaung heats up, incidents of violence amongst members of the ruling party seem to be a daily occurrence, with many reported countrywide.

Vhembe was not spared either.A nasty incident took place at Malamulele

when members who disagreed on the preferred candidates in Mangaung physically settled the score. This has led the ANC leadership in Vhembe to appeal for calmness.

The call follows the appearance of its members in the magistrate’s court on charges of assault.

A scuffl e at the Winston Zinjiva branch over the branch nominations to the Mangaung confer-ence led to charges and counter-charges against members. A member of the Vhembe regional ex-ecutive, Ms Frieda Nkondo, who is the principal at Mdanisi Primary School, laid a charge of as-sault against Mr Ronny Hlungwani, principal of Shigombe Primary, well-known businesswoman Ms Avhashoni Hlungwani, Malgas Mahange and Ms Gloria Shitlhelani, also a school principal.

Charges against the last three were later withdrawn.

Hlungwani, a senior Cosatu leader and lead-ing activist for the Jacob Zuma-group, has also laid counter-charges of assault against Nkondo, sparking a belief by members of the community that this is just a political fi ght over Mangaung.

The regional secretary, Mr Khathu Netshifhe-fhe, said ANC members knew that any dispute that happened at an ANC meeting must be resolved by the ANC. “We will contact all the comrades and request them to refer their dispute to the ANC,” said Netshifhefhe.

The branch named after the late announcer of the ANC’s Radio Freedom, Mr Winston Zinziva Nkondo, has nominated Jacob Zuma for a second term as ANC president. Three Zuma supporters, including Chairman Lazarus Baloyi, were chosen as delegates to carry the branch’s mandate.

Meanwhile, there are allegations that problems surfaced during the branch’s general meeting to elect delegates, when supporters of Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, who were out-numbered, allegedly turned people away from the meeting, so the meeting could not form a quorum.

Both Hlungwani and Nkondo appeared in court before Magistrate Norman Maluleke before their cases were postponed. Leaders from the various ANC formations in Vhembe packed the little court room, forcing others to wait outside to hear the court’s verdict.

Addressing the supporters during an adjourn-ment, branch chairperson Mr Lazarus Baloyi said the new trend of hauling each other before the courts was foreign to the ANC. “We know that if there are misunderstandings, internal ANC processes should be followed. Taking each other to court is foreign to us and we have come to realise that those who are doing that are not familiar with ANC policies. They should just seek advice from senior comrades on how things are run in the ANC,” he said.

The two cases have been postponed to 7 December.

Huldeblyk

man te werk sedert Februarie 2008.

If you’re planning a wedding and you’re stuck on whether you should allow children at your event, consider organising a wedding babysitter for guests with younger children. The idea of using a wedding sitter is also appealing to brides

who may have small children of their own.A wedding sitter can attend the reception and provide enter-tainment, activities that appeal to children and supervision for small guests while their parents enjoy the celebration.

While you may believe that guests are responsible for orga-nising their own sitters, some out-of-town guests, mothers

of small children, and family members might fi nd it diffi cult to provide sitting services under these circumstances. By providing a wedding sitter service at your reception, you

may make your event more enjoyable for all of your guests, including the little ones.

Nothing is more stressful than watching children get bored. We have heard stories of children getting into wedding cakes, getting lost in the hotel and falling asleep under

banquet tables. Our Wedding Sitter Service eliminates the need for parents or guests to supervise the little guests and

helps to ensure any wedding day celebrations are fun for both parents and children alike! While the adults relax and enjoy the celebrations, we happily entertain the children

with games, yummy snacks and activity bags.Include our details on your wedding invitations so you are not the caretaker at your own wedding! Parents and their

little ones will love you!

Road users in Limpopo and all provinces with toll roads have a direct interest in the outcome of the Gauteng eToll judicial review that starts on 26 November.

It was recently reported that the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) intends to apply the contentious Gauteng eToll model to all toll roads in the country eventually .

The conclusion of the third and final eToll public information session on eToll tariffs and exemp-tions, hosted by SANRAL and the Department of Transport (DoT) in Sunninghill at the end of last week, delivered a clear and unambiguous rejection by the public of eTolls. The Opposition To Urban Tolling Alliance (OUTA) chairperson Wayne Duvenage says in a press release that last week’s

Will eToll spill over into all provinces?

The Makhado police are warn-ing hotel and lodge operators around town and in the sur-rounding areas to be aware of people who intend staying at such establishments with a view to not paying the next day.

This comes after the police station had received reports of several cases where clients sneaked away from lodges or hotels without paying for the services rendered to them.

According to the police

spokesperson, Capt Maano Sa-diki, indications are that these people take valuable items such as curtains, towels and TV sets and sneak away. “In such cases, it is usually difficult to trace the suspects, since real names are seldom given,” Sadiki said.

Meanwhile, the police are also concerned about what appears to be a syndicate, where thieves target pensioners and lure them to the bank to withdraw their money.

These people claim to be agents from certain departments, who have been sent to collect some money or else help the unsuspecting target.

“We request next-of-kin to as-sist the elderly, so that this kind of crime is stopped from spread-ing,” he said.

Sadiki requests members of the community who might happen to meet people who offer them such help to contact the nearest police station.

hearings had clearly vindicated the long-held view that no proper consultation process had ever been undertaken.

“Clearly SANRAL’s initial public engagement process in 2007, which consisted of one advert placed in six newspapers and which elicited 28 responses from the public, was inadequate. If this was SANRAL’s view of constructive public en-gagement, they failed dismally,” says Duvenhage.

Responding to COSATU’s call for a legal and organised strike action on 30 November, Duvenage said that “the protest was likely to draw thousands of Gauteng residents who previously would never contemplate such public protest but are now fired up and brimming with frustration to seize this op-portunity to send a message to the authorities on this highly emotive matter.”

Some of the key e-Toll themes that consistently emerged from the public this week were that no proper consultation has ever taken place; a lack of transparency of information (in regard to project costs, revenues, contracts, tolling models); and no communication of the financial model to explain why eTolling is better for society than the Fuel Levy.

“Last week’s public information session was also very unclear regarding the enforcement procedures for those who do not pay the proposed eToll tariffs. When queried about how the debt collection of unpaid eTolls would be managed, within an already severely stretched and backlogged judicial system, and then integrated into either the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) or Criminal Procedures Act (CPA), SANRAL re-sponded vaguely, leaving one with an impression that this is clearly an area they are ‘looking into’.”

“OUTA looks forward to the start of the eToll judicial review on 26 November and encourages the public to continue making eToll submissions to ensure their voice is heard. Further details on the pending judicial review and how to contribute to OUTA’s legal costs are available at www.outa.co.za,” says Duvenhage.

The Kutama-Sinthumule Cor-rectional Centre (KSCC) do-nated a water-level indicator to the Mowkop water reservoir in Makhado last Wednesday.

Mowkop currently provides water to a large part of town. The level indicator will indicate the available capacity of water in the reservoir, so that the municipality will be able to manage the ration-ing of water to the entire com-munity without many difficulties.

The executive mayor of Vhem-be District Municipality, Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, welcomed the donation. He said that the Vhembe district had the highest population in the province, and

the more the area was growing, the scarcer water became.

“Let’s put our hands together to make sure that we serve and support our communities when it comes to issues of service delivery,” Matibe said. “The municipality can’t do it alone. We need communal efforts to solve the water problem in our district. We appreciate the South African Custodial Management’s efforts towards solving the water problem.”

The prison director, Mr Laza-rus Ncongwane, said that the prison was a large community in itself and housed 3 024 sentenced offenders and had about 550 staff

members. “Offenders are sen-tenced to imprisonment to protect the community,” Ncongwane said. “The water problem is a nightmare to me as prison direc-tor, because offenders cannot go around town looking for water.”

The level indicator had cost R11 000. Meanwhile, the KSCC had spent at least R30 000, in 2011 alone, in assisting the municipality to restore the water supply to the reservoir or to the prison. “We take an approach of being part of the solution rather than a problem,” Ncongwane added.

In the photo are (from left to right) Mr Freddy Tshivhengwa (Vhembe District Municipality), Cllr Tshitereke Matibe, Mr Lazarus Ncongwane, Cllr David Mutavhatsindi and Mr Thilivhali Ralulimi (Makhado Municipality).

The Zoutpansberger’s website (www.zout-pansberger.co.za) offers rea ders a calendar entry service on their Events Page.

Visitors to the website can now list their calendar entries for upcoming events on the Events Page themselves. It is as easy as merely logging in on the Events Page through your existing Google, Facebook or Twitter accounts and uploading your entry. The entry will, however, not appear immediately as it has to go through a moderation process fi rst.

In addition, sport club administrators (and

for that matter church and school administra-tors) can contact us to directly submit events on the Events Page without a moderations process. If an administrator is listed as a user on the site, their calendar entries will show im-mediately. This function allows administrators to update events through the year on a platform used by ten others publications throughout the province as part of both a local and provincial calendar.

For more information, phone Andries van Zyl at Tel 015 516 4996/7.

Representatives of the Makhado Air Force Base (MAFB) visited the Sinthumule tra-ditional authority on Friday, to inform the communities on the dangers of stray animals on the roads.

The aim of the campaign is to create a plat-form of debate with the council, the community and cattle farmers in particular, in order to find an answer to the problem of cattle, goats and sheep roaming the roads.

These animals are the main cause of road accidents in the area, said the communications officer of the MAFB, Sgt Thomas Mulaudzi. “We’re currently experiencing a problem of cattle entering into our land (air force grounds) from the Sinthumule area,” said Mulaudzi. “We therefore advise cattle owners to consider tak-ing precautionary measures with the safety of their animals,”

He added that, with this campaign, they hoped to avoid the straying of animals and un-necessary loss of lives of people as a result of cars’ getting involved in accidents with stray animals.

Mulaudzi attributed these to the lack of cattle kraals at homes, the unavailability of grazing camps (land), the stealing of state property (fences) leading to open spaces, and cattle neg-ligence. “Some of the solutions we suggest are for the farmers to start building safe places at home for their cattle in order to prevent these cattle from straying,” Mulaudzi continued.

“We’ll also sent a proposal to the munici-pality to assist with enough space for grazing. Fences also need to be erected within the pa-rameters of the main roads.”

A call was also made on farmers to at least ap-point herd boys to look after their cattle at all times. At the same time, motorists have been advised to drive with care.

“We wish to promote good neighbourliness, friendship and good community relations with all the chiefs and residents living within the Makhado Municipality,” said Mulaudzi.

Khosi Vho-Rudzani Sinthumule welcomed the suggestions and proposals put forward by the MAFB and said he would send the message to all his villages. “We believe that subsequent meeting with the Department of Land Affairs, the munici-pality and all cattle owners might lead to fruitful results,” said Khosi Vho-Sinthumule.

The Department of Agriculture in Limpopo is advising crop and livestock farmers to adhere to the regular early warnings issued in order to take precautionary measures to protect the livestock and crops from hail and thunderstorm damage.

The department says that the province at large is currently experiencing widespread early rains, which are accompanied by hazards such as hail, gale-force winds, thunderstorms and extremely cold weather conditions in most of the munici-palities.

Even though there might be some kind of relief to the farmers in terms of surface water availability, more time and follow-up rains are needed for graz-ing conditions to recover.

There has been a scarcity of rain in the previ-ous seasons and, according to the acting head of communications for the Limpopo Department of Agriculture, Ms Mashudu Mabata, prolonged drought conditions had brought hardship to the agricultural sector. This has since threatened food security, agricultural sustainability and economic development.

Livestock mortality is also currently high in drought-stricken areas as livestock are weak, lean and vulnerable.

“Farmers are therefore advised to put livestock in a shelter to protect them to survive the cold and wet weather conditions,” said Mabata. “Failure to do so might result in an increased livestock mortality rate.”

Luke 10:25-37

We all have responsibilities for one another. Our Bible reading for

today teaches us this very clearly. The Samaritan stepped down to help a Jew who hated him and his people.

As a Christian you have a special responsibility to your brothers and sisters in Christ, but you are also to be like that Good Samaritan who helped a person who hated him. Just as Christians show mercy, so for the sake of Jesus they receive mercy from God.

You and I need mercy from God, because we have offended Him by our sinful rebellion.

Isn’t it wonderful that our God has shown us mercy? Jesus came into this world to die for sinners. If you trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, you have already tasted the mercy of God. Your sins have been forgiven and forgotten. And because you have tasted God’s mercy, your new character will produce a life of mercy towards others.

Live your life like a Good Samari-tan. All the good you do, do it in the name of Jesus. In this way He gets the glory and by your actions you may lead someone to faith in the Saviour.

Read Matthew 25:34-36 and verse 40.

The following letter was received in response to the article, “Author receives international recognition”, that appeared in the Zoutpansberger on 9 November:

Congratulations to any writer who persists to produce a book.

In Charles’ case, however, it is disappointing to see a work that is composed of rhetoric and unsup-ported empirical evidence treated and supported by Craig Wilcox to bolster his own claims as the expert on the history of the Boer War.

Charles may use a sleight of hand to try and convince readers his book has received credible reviews by authors like Craig Wilcox. How-ever, noting Craig’s self interest in propagating the myth of his self proclaimed eminence as Boer War expert, Charles would have won greater respect to have sought an opinion from a ‘neutral’ scholar.

As a work of personal opinion and fluid emotion, the book has merit, but only as a piece of fic-tion comprised of confusion and doubtful fact arranged to reach a biased and pre-ordained conclusion, namely, that Lieutenant Morant got what he deserved regardless of how he was tried and sentenced. In collu-sion with Craig Wilcox, Charles has won a willing ally who has dressed his own bias through a fog of dubi-ous incredibility through a historical journal.

As much as Charles has tried and with the recruitment of others, including Andries Pretorius, the book fails the test of objectivity and certainly is not deserving of comparison with authors such as Arthur Davey. Charles ‘effort has avoided evidence of fact by using bias, conjecture, distorted opinion and old wives tales’ to indict Morant with offences that were never con-sidered or investigated by British authorities.

The controversy over the Morant matter will continue and, judging by the politicisation of the subject by the British Government and its defensiveness toward any form of review and the evidence that Mo-rant, Handcock and Witton were de-nied trials according to law of 1902, Charles’ contribution only confirms what many believe, that these men were the scapegoats for flawed tactics and atrocities orchestrated by senior British Military Command.

Fortunately, the status quo that Charles, Craig and pro-British or-ganisations like the Australian War Memorial maintain will be scruti-nised through proceedings to review

the British Government’s decision not to hold an independent inquiry. I am also pleased to announce that Foxtel and Screen Australia have provided financial support for a thorough documentary on the Boer War and the case of Breaker Morant. The documentary will be screened on the respectable history channel next year. As Charles will see, this will be no ‘cowboy’ pro-duction, a certain counter-punch to critics like Andries Pretorius!

The documentary will expose the myths and slanted history propa-gated by those who claim to be historians and experts on the case. Regrettably, while Wilcox, Leach and others focus their energies on Breaker Morant, they remain blind to the reality of British atrocities and cruel military tactics that led to barbaric practices to force a peace treaty at the expense of Boer civil-ians. The Breaker case illustrates that against the cover of superior orders, a greater injustice, namely the denial of a fair trial according to the values enshrined in British law of 1902, was allowed to occur. Over a century later, the work to review this case has challenged one of the most memorable injustices in the history of British imperialism. I look forward to giving Zoutnet readers updates on this case as it unfolds.

– James Unkles (Australia)

Charles Leach responded as follows:

Dear EditorAn esteemed journalist of

your standing would always un-derstand that personal attacks can never change historical facts.

The historical facts presented in my book have been sourced from and supported by actual legal depo-sitions from Prof Davey’s book, the Schulenburg Collection, Lt Witton’s account of the confessions made by Lt Handcock, as well as from the works of numerous acclaimed South African and international histori-ans, researchers and academics.

In addition, the letter written by Lt Witton to Maj Thomas dated October 21 1929 (Mitchell Library) confirms the Bushveldt Carbineers’ involvement in the murder of the defenceless witness, the Rev. C A D Heese.

I encourage neutral readers to assess for themselves the facts as presented in my book in order to draw their own conclusions.

Regards,- Charles Leach

The P&L Cycling Club in Ma khado (Louis Trichardt) invites one and all to spread the joy of Christmas by supporting their Jingle Bell Toy Ride on 30 November.

The ride will start at 19:00 at Nguni Grill in Krogh Street. To enter, all you need to do is to bring along a new toy. “We hope to see you all on the route or joining us on your bicycle,” says the club.

From Nguni Grill, riders will proceed north and turn left in Ruh Street, past the hospital, to De Vaal Street via Van Warmelo en Berg Street.

“The route will then take r iders around Schim per Crescent, down Barnard Street and via Forestry and De la Rey to Rivier Street. The N1 will then be crossed into Hlanganani Street, turning right in Koraal Street, left in Olifant Street and right in Angelier Street,” say the organisers.

From there, the ride follows Eland Street back to Bauhinia Street and left in Buffel Street, up in Tshirululuni Street to Leeu Street and then

all the way down to Acasia Street. Riders will make a left turn in Eland Street, via Park and Mopanie Street, back into Kudu Street. From there, riders will proceed to Makhado Crossing and across to 1st and 2nd street in Elitvillas. From Eltivillas, Rissik Street will be followed to Anderson Street, down to Vorster Street, turning right up in Douthwait Street, and left in Jeppe Street. The next right turn is in Kleynhans Street and right

again in Joubert Street. Riders will then make a left in Anderson and a right in Songozwi Street, riding back up in Krogh Street.

A detailed map will be avail-able on the club’s Facebook page (P&L Hardware Cycling Club), as well as on request by writing to [email protected]

“If you would like to donate toys before 30 November, please drop them off at Nguni Grill in Krogh Street or phone 015 516 5170,” invites the club.
