Só is ‘n bees- en wildboer van die omgewing se enigste twee renosters die afgelope week afgemaai in die voortslepende sinnelose slagting van reno-sters in Suid-Afrika.

Die boer, mnr. Muller Vermaas, se onthoringde witrenosterkoei en –bul is doodgemaak deur stropers vir die kort stompies wat weer op hul neuse begin uitgroei het. Eintlik het Vermaas drie renosters verloor, want die koei was dragtig en sou in Augustus haar eerste kalf lewer.

“Ek wil in my hande huil as ek na hulle karkasse kyk,” het Vermaas Dinsdag gesê.

Vermaas boer by Bandelierkop. Die twee renosters het op sy plaas Joppa, wat grens aan die Soekmekaarpad en N1-suid, geloop en was ‘n bekende gesig vir motoriste wat ge-reeld dié paaie ry. Talle mense het selfs gestop om foto’s van hierdie statige diere te neem.

Vermaas het juis vir die renosters se veiligheid in September 2011 beide onthoring. Oor ‘n maand sou die renosters ook na ‘n ander plaas geskuif word.

“Dit maak ‘n mens bitter. Ek sal nie weer reno-sters koop tot die wetgewing verander nie,” het Vermaas gesê.

‘n Beampte van die Departement Omgewingsake en Natuurbewaring wat op die plaas werk, het Maandag op die renosters se karkasse afgekom. Hy het eerste op die koei afgekom en toe 100 meter verder op die karkas van die bul. Vanweë die graad van ontbinding wil dit voorkom asof die renosters middel verlede week reeds geskiet is.

Beide renosters is met ‘n enkele skoot agter die

blad met ‘n swaar-kaliber geweer geskiet. Op die oog af, het Vermaas gesê, blyk dit die werk te wees van ‘n professionele jagter.

Die stropers het die bul se stompies afgekap. Met die koei word daar vermoed dat hulle dalk onderbreek is, want haar horings was ongeskonde. Daar was egter talle kapmerke, vermoedelik van ‘n byl, aan haar kop.

Vermaas het later toestemming gekry om sy dooie renosterkoei se horings te verwyder. Hy skat die waarde van die renosters, sou hulle nog gelewe het, op sowat R850 000. “Al wat ek het om vir hulle te wys is waardelose horings,” het Vermaas gesê. Die horings kan hy nie eens by sy eie huis aan hou

nie. Om veiligheidsre-des word dit by ‘n bank toegesluit.

“Ek het R1 miljoen se horings in ‘n bankkluis waarmee ek niks kan doen nie. Die stropers kan egter dit verkoop en maak soos hulle wil, maar ek mag nie. Ons almal wil hê hulle moet die oes van renosterho-

rings wettig. Dan kan ons die mark oorstroom,” het Vermaas gesê. Volgens hom sal dit die sinnelose slagting onder dié diere verhoed, aangesien die aanvraag na horings dan sal afneem omdat dit nie meer so ‘n lonende bedryf sal wees nie.

Intussen het die polisie se forensiese span be-gin om die twee karkasse te ontleed. Daar word gehoop dat hulle moontlik die koeëls sal vind vir ballistiese toetse. Volgens die Departement van Omgewingsake se jongste syfers is daar sedert die begin van die jaar tot Dinsdag hierdie week reeds 82 renosters in die land doodgemaak vir hulle horings. Dié statistieke was nog nie aangepas om Vermaas se renosters in te sluit nie.

Sinnelose slagting van renosters duur voort

Met die koei word daar vermoed dat die stropers onderbreek is, want haar horings was ongeskonde. Daar was egter talle kapmerke, vermoedelik van ‘n byl, aan haar kop. Vermaas het later toestemming gekry om sy dooie renosterkoei se horings self te verwyder.

Die polisie in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) is tans op soek na ‘n man wat Vrydagaand genadeloos op inwoners begin skiet het.

‘n Jong vrou van die dorp, me. Chantel Lampre-cht, is deur die man in die been gewond. Dit blyk dat roof moontlik die man se motief was.

Volgens Lamprecht het sy en haar kêrel, mnr. Bennie Landman, omstreeks 23:00 vanaf die Rugbylapa huis toe gestap. Naby die Spar-besigheidskompleks in Songozwistraat het die onbekende skieter skielik uit die donker verskyn en met ‘n vuurwapen op hulle losgebrand.

“Ek het ‘n geskreeu ‘n entjie agter ons gehoor en toe ek omdraai, toe word daar op ons geskiet,” het Landman Maandag gesê. ‘n Koeël het Lamprecht in haar regterbeen getref. Sy het eers agtergekom sy is gewond toe haar been begin lam word het en haar voete onder haar ingevou het. Wonderbaarlik het die koeël nie die hoofslagaar in haar been getref nie. Ná die skietery het die man doodeenvoudig omgedraai en weggehardloop. “N1 se kant toe,” is al wat Landman onthou.

Gelukkig was daar ‘n ooggetuie wie se selfoon hy kon leen om hulp te ontbied. Nog ‘n verby-ganger, mnr. Collin Gamble, het onmiddellik

gestop en die dorpswag en polisie ontbied.Met die polisie se aankoms op die toneel is die

paartjie meegedeel dat dieselfde aanvaller klaar-blyklik kort voor die skietery op hulle nog mense probeer beroof het. Hul beskrywing van die man het ooreengestem met dié van ‘n man wat kort tevore drie sekuriteitswagte naby Shoprite in Krugerstraat met ‘n wapen gedreig en probeer beroof het. Die man het blonde hare en het ‘n pet opgehad; hy was geklee in ‘n donker oorpak.

Vir Landman en Lambrecht was die aanval ‘n groot skok gewees. Hulle stap gereeld en dit is die eerste keer dat so iets met hulle gebeur. “Dit was nie eens so laat gewees nie,” het die twee gesê.

Lamprecht sterk tans tuis aan, nadat sy Maandag uit die hospitaal ontslaan is. Die koeël is nog steeds in haar been. Sy sê dokters wil eers kyk of dit nodig sal wees om die koeël te verwyder as haar wond gesond is. Intussen het die woordvoerder van die Makhado SAPD, kapt. Maano Sadike, bevestig dat die verdagte nog op vrye voet is. Daar word twee sake van gewapende roof en een saak van poging tot moord ondersoek. Enige iemand met inligting kan die polisie se hulplyn skakel by tel. 082 319 9638.

Vrou in been gewond ná man op hulle losbrand

In the midst of the national rhino-poaching crisis, police have managed to arrest three suspected rhino poachers on the Nwanedi Game Reserve in the Tshipise area.

According to provincial po-lice spokesperson Col Ronel Otto, Nwanedi rangers spotted the suspects carrying a hunting

rifle on Tuesday, 5 February. When the rangers confronted the suspects, a shoot-out between the rangers and suspects ensued. In the process, one of the sus-pects was wounded in his leg.

The suspects fled but were later arrested at their homes at Muswodi village. An unlicensed .303-hunting rifle was confis-

cated from them and they were charged with trespassing, the illegal possession of a firearm and unlawful hunting.

At the time of our going to press, the three had appeared in the Mutale Magistrate’s Court. No bail was granted and they remain in custody.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence has been informed about the ongoing power supply crisis at Air Force Base (AFB) Makhado. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works (DPW) indicated this week that it will take a further three months and some R9 million to fix the problem.

A delegation of the Portfolio Committee on Defence visited AFB Makhado on 30 January as part of a routine programme. The purpose of the visit was to investigate the extent of transformation, with specific focus on the training of black combat pilots and associated challenges.

The committee then apparently learned for the first time that the base has been without a normal power supply for more than four months now. For the 13 standby generators, which have been in use since October last year, the average expenditure on diesel alone now runs into more than R1,2 million per month.

In the meantime, no response has been forthcom-ing on formal enquiries at national defence head-quarters about reports of the massive retrenchment of members of the Denel AMG unit, comprising 90 specialists involved in the maintenance of the Hawks and Gripens at AFB Makhado. The reported pending retrenchment of the entire local unit comes in the wake of an announcement in Parliament that the South African Air Force (SAAF) does not have sufficient funds to keep all 26 Gripen fighter planes in the air.

On enquiry, the officer commanding AFB Makhado, Brig-Genl Schalk van Heerden, con-firmed the portfolio committee’s visit and the purpose of the visit this week. He remarked: “In addition, the delegation also checked on the gen-eral state of facilities and working conditions of members, as well as progress made with current maintenance and upgrade of facilities. The problem of the electrical failure at the base was communi-cated to the group as one of the main challenges facing the base currently. Questions regarding the slow response by the Department of Public Works were referred to the national office of the DPW.”

area exploded in two places on 10 October last year. A massive power failure left 234 households at the base without electricity for more than a week. More than 1 000 Braambos residents then had to be assisted by means of a charity project and other means to provide them with fresh food and rations, before mobile generators could be deployed by the air force as an interim measure. The operational area was initially also affected by a complete power failure. Van Heerden confirmed that the DPW in Polokwane was informed immediately. The sup-port measures via SAAF standby generators have been in force ever since, pending further action by the DPW.

A media enquiry last year to the Polokwane of-fice of the DPW was referred to the national office. The national department’s communications officer, Thami Mchunu, then acknowledged the enquiry

and replied: “You will be informed if a response is available.”

After a reminder this week, the DPW issued a statement on Tuesday, stating that: “Consultants are on site, working on fixing the problem after the preliminary design report, scope of work and cost estimates were received in January.” The statement further reads: “...we envisage the work to take more or less three months at an estimated cost of R9million.”

On Tuesday, however, Brig-Genl Van Heerden said he had no knowledge of the presence and activities of such consultants at the base.

In the meantime, the continued electricity crisis, together with the reported pending retrenchment of AMG staff and the budget problems in the SANDF, is exacerbating concerns about the overall combat readiness of AFB Makhado.

Eltivillas streets finally to receive attentionCommunity leaders of Eltivillas, business rep-resentatives and ward councillor Mr Vincent Mahladisa (Ward 20) joined the Makhado Mu-nicipality during the launch of the R14 million

street-surfacing project at the Eltivillas business area last Thursday.

The technical director at the municipality, Mr Thilivhali Ralulimi, indicated that a consultant was appointed in 2010 to do a feasibility study and de-sign of the whole project. Mr Takalani Musandiwa of TM Africa Engineering Services gave a brief scope of the project. According to Musandiwa, the work entails the upgrading of a 1,15km stretch of streets from gravel to paving blocks and the reha-bilitation of 1,32km from tar to asphalt.

“We will also do the rehabilitation of 0,7km from tar to paving blocks,” he said. “This will also include unblocking all blockages on the existing storm water drains.”

Musandiwa indicated that the project’s duration is eight months. Two of the streets to benefit from the project are Vaal and Orient.

Mr Devendra Patel, a local businessman, wanted clarity on the quality material (bricks) which would be used for paving the streets.

“It will be a pity if, three years down the line, the same streets might need resurfacing,” said Mr Patel.

“Let me address the fear,” Ralulimi said in-stantly. “If you have ever been to Polokwane and driven along Landdros Maré Street, you might have noticed that the surfaces in the intersections are made of bricks. And from my experience, that kind of paving is durable.”

Mayor Cllr David Mutavhatsindi urged all the motorists and businesspeople around the Eltivillas area to co-operate while the contractors are busy working on the project. “There is no doubt that our municipality is committed to rendering qual-ity services to all its people,” said Mutavhatsindi.

This is the second project of this nature in El-tivillas. A fortnight ago, the mayor had launched a street-surfacing project for Eltivillas Extension 1, which was estimated at a cost of R11 million.

Mnr. Doors Le Roux, voorsitter van die Sout-pansberg Distrikslandbou-unie (SDLU), het die afgelope week heftig gereageer ten opsigte van die nuut-aangekondigde minimum loon vir plaaswerkers en gesê dat talle boere reeds begin het met afleggings.

Die nuwe minimum loon van R105 per dag is op 4 Februarie deur die Minister van Arbeid, me. Mildred Oliphant, aangekondig en sal vanaf 1 Maart in werking tree. Dit geld vir plaaswerkers wat nege uur en langer per dag werk. Die minimum maandelikse salaris is vasgestel op R2 274,82, en die uurlikse loon is R11,66. Die lone sal oor die volgende drie jaar verhoog word na aanleiding van die verbruikersprysindeks plus 1,5%.

Volgens Le Roux het hulle verlede week ’n blitsopname in die SDLU gebied gedoen. By 20 boere is daar reeds 473 werkers afgelê.

“In een boerevereniging gebied is daar tans 1 784 werkers en daar word beplan om 673 werkers voor 1 Maart te laat gaan. Een boer alleen gaan, uit 150 werkers, 50 minder maak. Nog ‘n boer het normaalweg 250 werkers en het reeds 150 laat gaan en beplan om nog 50 minder te maak. Meer en meer werk boere alleen sonder arbeiders, wat natuurlik die veiligheidsrisiko ook baie verlaag,” het Le Roux gesê.

Le Roux meen dit is duidelik dat die regering se “endemiese onbekwaamheid en doodgewoon swak kennis en verstaan van die mees basiese beginsels van die vryemark ekonomie nou duidelik sigbaar is.” Volgens hom gaan Suid Afrika ten gronde, omdat “sogenaamde leiers aangestel word op grond van politieke lojaliteit en nie op grond van staatsmanskap, leierskap of visie nie.”

Le Roux het gesê dat dit nie moeilik is om die direkte impak van die verhoging op die boer/produsent uit te werk nie. “Lone word met 50% verhoog. Selfs onder die mees ideale toestande en aggressiewe ekonomiese groei kan geen bedryf of besigheid so ‘n verhoging hanteer nie,” het hy gesê.

Wat die maandelikse impak betref, het Le Roux gesê dat ‘n klein boerdery met 10 arbeiders teen die

huidige loon van R69,39 per dag tans ’n loonreke-ning van R14 736 per maand het. “Teen die nuwe vasstelling van R105 per dag sal dit R22 300 per maand kos - ‘n toename van meer as R90 000 per jaar,” het Le Roux gesê. Medium boerdery met 20 arbeiders se maandelikse loonrekening is tans R29 472, maar sal vanaf 1 Maart na R44 600 per maand verhoog, wat ’n jaarlikse verhoging van R181 536 teweeg sal bring. Die loonrekening vir groot boerdery met 100 arbeiders styg eweneens dramaties. Volgens Le Roux is hierdie boere se maandelikse rekening ongeveer R147 360. Dit sal egter styg na R223 000 per maand, met ‘n toename van meer as R900 000 per jaar.

“Geen onderneming is Vader Kersfees nie. Die vergelyking wat nie deur die agbare kabinetminis-ters verstaan word nie is dat arbeid ‘n kommoditeit is. Dit beteken om jou arbeid vir geld te verkoop moet jy so produktief wees dat jou werkgewer jou arbeid wil gebruik. Die landbou is die plek waar die realiteit tot werkers in die land sal deurdring,” het Le Roux gesê.

Vir die verbruiker, meen Le Roux, is die skrif aan die muur.

“Die effek sal waarskynlik eerste op die pryse van wintergroente waargeneem word. Dis kon-tantgewasse met ‘n kort siklus en die effek van voorsieningstekorte as gevolg van die besluit om sekere gewasse nie aan te plant nie word vinnig deur die verbruiker gevoel,” het Le Roux gesê. Hy het bygevoeg dat die aanbod mettertyd behoort te stabiliseer namate produkpryse verhoog. Pro-dusente sal weer begin plant indien die verhoogde produkprys vergoed vir die verhoogde arbeidskoste om die gewas te produseer. Hierdie konsertina effek van tekorte op aanbod en aanvraag sal voortduur totdat daar weer balans tussen produkprys en produksiekoste kom.

“Ongelukkig moet iemand die verhoogde produksiekoste finansier en ongelukkig is dit die verbruiker; met ander woorde, jou kos gaan baie duurder word...” het Le Roux gesê.

Nuwe minimum loon lei tot afleggings op plase

Die Zoutpansberg Privaathospitaal in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) het onlangs sertifikate van waardering oorhandig aan drie van hul getroue diensverskaffers. Jaarliks word daar sertifikate oorhandig aan die verskaffers wat deur die hospitaal se personeel verkies is as dié wat nie net goeie diens lewer nie, maar ook die ekstra myl saam met die hospitaal sal stap. • ANNUAL BLYDE XFEST The annual Blyde Xfest will be hosted at Blyde Ad-venture Camp from 1 March to 3 March.

This year, there will be mountain bike races for children and adults, as well as kayak races for paddlers. For the rest there will be croc-and-tube races on the Lower Blyde River at the camp. This activity is loads of fun and suitable for anyone.

It entails a race with a partner in a tube and then in a croc raft down the two largest rapids of the Lower Blyde River. The first 20 entries for the croc-and-tube races will receive an official Blyde Xfest 2013 T-shirt. All these events take place on Saturday.

• TURBI HILLS MTB RACE The MOTHs of the Turbi Hills Shellhole in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), in conjunction with the Soutpansberg Town Watch, will once again be hosting their Turbi Hills Mountain Bike Race in the Roodewal Plantation (Ridgeway Independent School) on 9 March.

The race comprises a 50km, 30km and 8km race. The entry fees for the three races are R100, R60 and R30 respectively, with first, second and third place prizes. Registration will take place from 17:00 until 19:00 on 8 March and from 06:30 to 08:00 on the day of the race.

• ANNUAL EBENEZER MILE The countdown has started for the exciting annu-al Ebenezer Mile swim event to be hosted at the Mountain Yacht Club on Saturday, 16 March.

All may enter this open water mile (1609m) swim. The age categories are u/14 and over 30 years. There is also a 3000m swim which is a SSA Qualifier. Race timing will be handled with electronic timing chips worn by the competitors.

Entries are R100 and R75 for a short course development and introduction swim of 500 for all ages and gender. Entries on the day will be charged at R125.

• MIGHTY MEN CONFERENCE The third Mighty Men Conference in the Bush-veld will take place from 15 to 17 March on the Farm Snymansdrift outside Polokwane.

The gates to the farm will open on Thursday, 14 March, when the men can already pick their camping spots for the weekend. There will be enough food stalls to cater for any hungry and thirsty man. No women will be allowed on the farm until Sunday, when families can attend the event. The first speaker on 15 March will be Piet (Myner) Jacobs. The praise and worship will be led by Franna Benadé and the majority of his band members are from Polokwane.

On 16 March, at 09:00, Riekert Botha will share his message with the men. Angus Buchan will be the guest speaker for the rest of the weekend.

spectively. The entry fee per race is R150 for the 70km, R80 for the 35km and R40 for the 10km.

Registration opens at 05:30 on the day of the race and closes half an hour before the race starts. A day-licence fee of R35 is only payable if the cyclist does not hold a valid CSA licence. APRIL• BOEREDAG BY CVO ZPB Die CVO Skool Zoutpansberg buite Makhado (Louis Trichardt) beplan ‘n Boeredag met tradisionele boeresport.

Dié dag sal op Saterdag, 13 April, op die skoolterrein aangebied word.

Alle ondernemings en belangstellendes word hartlik uitgenooi om vierman spanne in te skryf vir die dag se spanboukompetisie. Daar sal deel-geneem word aan items soos sakresies, toutrek, eiergooi en driebeen-resies.

Vir dié wat hul produkte of dienste wil uitstal, is daar uitstalruimte te koop. Organiseerders van die dag sal graag soveel as moontlik landbou-verwante produkte en dienste wil kry om by die dag te kom uitstal.

Nature Conservation

Help conserve Samango monkeyResidents of the Soutpansberg are once again called upon to assist urgently in assessing the distribution and population status of Samango monkeys in the region in order to help with the

conservation and management of these animals.“As part of my doctoral research, I am establish-

ing in which forest patches in the Soutpansberg Samango monkeys occur. Furthermore, Samangos

have been recorded unofficially in the Blouberg mountain range. As part of my project, I am generating a list of Samango monkey sightings across the study area. As the study area is large, I am asking the public for help in this regard,” says Mrs Bibi Linden.

Samango monkeys only occur in and near high-canopy forests, which are found mostly along the northern slopes in the Soutpansberg. In this they differ from the widely distributed Vervet monkey, which inhabits much drier habitat such as acacia woodland. Samango monkeys also differ in size and appearance from Vervet monkeys. As the Samango needs high-canopy forest habitat, their distribution is very restricted and patchy across South Africa. Forests, and thus all the species inhabiting them, are under enormous pressure (directly bordered by timber plantations, suffering from deforestation and invasion by alien plants etc.). Samango monkeys are listed as vulnerable in the Red Data Book of the Mammals of South Africa.

“I would like to ask everyone who has seen Samango monkeys or has them on their farm to contact me. If possible, I would greatly appreciate the following details: date and time of sighting, number of individuals encountered, name of forest patch or farm and GPS coordinates,” says Linden. “Unfortunately, I had two calls in the last year reporting Samango monkeys who got killed by cars on the Levubu road between Makhado (Louis Trichardt) and Thohoyandou. If anyone sees a dead Samango next to any road in the area, or finds a dead Samango in the wild, please contact me im-mediately and I will come and pick it up as soon as possible. I would also greatly appreciate if the body of the animal could be moved off the road (if it is on the road) in order to prevent further damage to it or - if people are willing - take it home and store it in a safe place until I pick it up,” says Linden.

Die CMR-kantoor van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) verwelkom ‘n gekwalifiseerde maatskaplike werker, me. Lizelle Hagenmeier (links), wat op 1 Februarie diens aanvaar het. “Sy sal Dinsdae, Woensdae en Donderdae beskikbaar wees,” sê sekretaresse Darél Thompson (regs).

Die aanstelling van ‘n nuwe maatskaplike werker by die CMR-kantoor in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) word wyd verwelkom, nadat die kantoor vir ses maande sonder ‘n maatskaplike werker moes funksioneer.

Me. Lizelle Hagenmeier het op 1 Februarie by die CMR-kantoor begin. Sy het verlede jaar haar graad in maatskaplike werk aan UNISA voltooi en het ook vir twee jaar as hulpwerker by die plaaslike SAVF opgetree.

“Ons het vir ses maande klippe gekou. Dis net deur gebede dat die kantoor kon oop bly,” het me. Darél Thompson (sekretaresse) gesê. Die kantoor het in daardie tyd kos en klere uitgedeel en behoef-tiges gehelp. Thompson sê dat daar verseker al hoe meer mense vir hulp aanklop, ook omdat hulle hul werk verloor en in armoede verval.

Vir die onmiddellike toekoms gaan die plaaslike CMR-kantoor aandag gee aan die behoeftes wat vanuit die gemeenskap navore kom, asook om maatskaplike intervensie te bring. Hulle beoog om aan te sluit by bestaande projekte by skole, kleuter-skole en organisasies en nuwe projekte te inisieer.

Statutêre werk moes die afgelope ses maande voor die voet na die departement van sosiale ont-wikkeling verwys word. “Ons is nou weer aan die gang. Lizelle is lus om die ding te doen. Nou kan ons weer ten volle diens lewer,” sê Thompson.

“Ek voel dis waar ek in hierdie stadium van my lewe moet wees. Ek kon nie ‘nee’ gesê het nie,” sê Hagenmeier. Sy nooi enige persoon wat hulp wil hê of betrokke wil raak om hulp te verleen om die kantoor te skakel.

Die CMR-kantoor bedank die gemeenskap wat hulle so ruimhartig gedra het en nooi almal uit tot voortgaande betrokkenheid. Die maatskaplike werker sal op Dinsdae, Woensdae en Donderdae van 09:00 tot 16:00 beskikbaar wees.

“Mense wat haar wil kom sien, kan afsprake by my maak,” sê Thompson, wat tussen 07:30 en

12:30 vanaf Maandag tot Vrydag by 015 516 5115 geskakel kan word.

Johannes 10:22-30 - Veiligheid in Jesus Christus

Ons lewe in ‘n skrikwekkende wêreld. Elke dag hoor ons op die nuus van

moord en misdaad. Op televisie sien ons mense sterf in verskeie oorloë in ver-skillende dele van die wêreld. In sekere gebiede is dit nie veilig om na sononder uit te gaan nie.

In hierdie wêreld is daar min sekuriteit, maar Christene het volmaakte geestelike veiligheid in Jesus.

Johannes 6:37 sê vir ons almal wat na Christus gaan vir redding, sal dit ontvang. Niemand sal weggewys word nie. Jesus sê vir Sy mense hulle behoort aan Hom, het die ewige lewe “en sal in ewigheid nooit verlore gaan nie.” - Joh. 10:28.

Daar is sekuriteit in Jesus. Niemand kan ons uit Sy hand ruk nie, Hy sal ons nooit los nie.

In Rom. 8:35 vra Paulus die vraag: “Wie kan ons van die liefde van Christus skei?” Dan antwoord hy self sy vraag deur te sê niks in hierdie of die onsien-bare wêreld, nie eens die dood, kan ons van God se liefde skei wat in Jesus te vinde is.

Hierdie wêreld is ‘n baie onsekere plek, maar as jy aan Jesus behoort is jou saligheid verseker. Ons Here Jesus besit al die mag in die hemel en op aarde.

Mag jy een van hulle wees wat seker is van God se liefde wat in Jesus te vinde is.

Na aanleiding van “Glenn” se brief aan die Zoutpansberger in

die uitgawe van 1 Februarie net die volgende:

Meeste inwoners van Louis Trichardt en omgewing waardeer die Zoutpansberger as onpartydige en akkurate beriggewer, asook goed verteenwoordigend van wat in en om Louis Trichardt gebeur. Plaaslike nuusgebeure, sport, skole se doen en late asook gebeure op sosiale, kulturele en geestelike vlak word feitelik berig.

Die vele toekennings wat die Zoutpansberger se nuusspan al gekry het, is bewys daarvan dat ons ‘n gehalte span het. Baie dankie.

Die redakteur, Anton van Zyl, is ‘n merkwaardige persoon met vele talente. ‘n Uitstekende redakteur en joernalis, ‘n leier op geestelike terrein asook met gemeenskapsdiens waar hy dikwels sy hand diep in sy sak steek (sonder basuingeskal).

So, “Glenn”, jou persoonlike aanval op die koerant en redakteur is nie ingeligte kritiek nie.

Mag die Zoutpansberger, soos in die verlede, van goed na beter na beste gaan.

Ons gevoel is dat hierdie koerant ook nie die Soutpansberg se mense ken nie en probeer het om hulle te verkleineer en te stereotipeer.

Die skrywer Ayn Rand het ‘n wonderlike stukkie dialoog in haar boek, The Fountainhead. Die hoofkarakter, Howard Roark, word gekonfronteer deur Ellsworth Toohey wat sê: “Mr. Roark, we’re alone here. Why don’t you tell me what you think of me in any words you wish.” Die antwoord is dan heel eenvoudig: “But I don’t think of you!” Vir ons maak dit baie saak wat ons lesers van ons dink, maar wat “Glenn” van ons dink is regtig nie belangrik nie.

Doctors hired by the government with the purpose of helping the sick, now get tasked to steal the lives of innocent young beings. This can not be justified. Abortion is killing and killing is truly violating God’s moral law. We should bear in mind that God will judge them for not honouring what He created in His image.

None of us could choose how we ought to be like. God has fash-ioned us in the womb. “Who has made man’s mouth, or who makes

the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord?” (Exodus 4:11). Yes, God created us in His own image. “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life that both you and your seeds may live” – Deuteronomy 31:19.

God wants us to choose life, not take away life from the unborn. Children are gifts from God, he loves them and he carefully “fash-ioned them in the womb” – Job 31:15.

No-one has the right to kill an un-born child, for God is the one Who gives life to all of us. We should always remember that “whatsoever a man sow, that shall he also reap: - Galatians 6:6.

Daar sal heelnag musiek en afkondigings wees. Ons wil hiermee graag die publiek versoek om gedul-dig te wees met die musiek. Ons sal probeer om die musiek nie so hard te speel nie. Daar is ook skrywes gerig aan die munisipaliteit en die SAPD vir die aanbied van die Relay.

Ons moet kyk na waaroor die Relay gaan. Dit gaan oor mense [survivors] wat kanker oorwin het

of wat steeds kanker het en dat ons ‘n nag saam met hulle wil deurbring om simpatie met hulle te betoon. Onthou, kanker slaap nie en dit kom voor in alle rasse, oud of jonk, mooi of lelik. Dit gaan nie om ‘n lekker kuiersessie te hê nie.

Let daarop dat geen drank, dwelms of rook toegelaat word op die baan nie. Dit is ‘n oorsaak van kanker; kom ons respekteer dit vir een dag in `n jaar.

While the older athletes were competing at the three-school meeting at Ridgeway Independent School on 7 February outside Makhado (Louis Trichardt), the Grade 1s to 3s had great fun with their sack races.

The route was beautiful but the weather was scorchingly hot during this year´s annual Soutpansberg Mountain Race. This half-marathon, sponsored by the Makhado Municipality and Werda Toyota, was held over the past weekend. In the front is race winner Ludwick Mamabolo. He completed the race in a time of 1:19.20. Behind him are second- and third-place winners Rufus Photo (1:19.23) and Takalani Nkuhumeleni (1:20.17).

The women´s category of the annual Sout-pansberg Mountain Race, a half-marathon, was won by the well-known Jane Mudau of the Nedbank Athletics Club. She completed the grueling race in a time of 1:37.08.

‘n Gekombineerde muurbalspan van Makhado (Louis Trichardt) en Mookgopong het die afgelope naweek aan die Bosveld Toernooi in Lephalale deelgeneem en wen te midde van strawwe kompetisie die toernooi. Van links na regs is spanlede Ronel Welman (Makhado/LTT), Gordon Daniels (Mookgopong), Johny Osmond (Mookgopong) en Erik Welman (Makhado/LTT). Erik het ook vanaf 25 tot 27 Januarie aan die Wilson Junior Ope in Kempton Park deelgeneem, waar hy derde geëindig het. Foto verskaf.

The event was a three-school athletic meeting at Ridgeway Independent School on 7 February. Khuliso Mutshembele of Louis Trichardt High School came first in the BU/19 100m at the Soutpansberg East circuit athletics meeting hosted at the school on 6 February. Khuliso completed the 100m in 11.7s.

Jonandi Aucamp van Hoërskool Louis Trichardt wen die 200m in ‘n tyd van 28,9s tydens die Soutpansberg-Oos kringbyeenkoms wat op 6 Februarie by die skool aangebied is.

Andy Makananisa of Ridgeway Independent School cleared 1.29m and won the BU/13 high jump at the athletics meeting between Ridgeway, Braambos and Champions in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on 7 February.

Regs: Twee O/15-ver spring-atlete van Hoërskool Louis Tri chardt vaar uitstekend tydens die Soutpansberg-Oos kr ingbyeenkoms wat op 6 Februarie by die skool aangebied is. In die eersteplek is Thabelo Maiwashe (links), wat 5 .26m ver spring, en Wynand Mouton (regs) tweede met ‘n afstand van 5.25m. Tydens die “cluster” byeenkoms op 9 Februarie was Wynand weer eerste met ´n afstand van 5.79m en Thabelo tweede met 5.49m.


Byeenkoms sorg vir opwindingSkolesport

Die atletiekbyeenkoms by Laerskool Louis Trichardt op 9 Februarie het opwindende atletiek opgelewer.

Die deelnemende skole was Laerskole Louis Trichardt, Soutpansberg, Levubu, Tshikondeni, Drakensig en Ridgeway Independent School.

Een van die nommers wat omstanders die asem laat ophou het, was die gewig-stoot vir SO/11. Twee seuns het aanvank-lik die rekord met 14 cm verbeter, deur albei presies 9.89m te stoot. Dié kranige atlete is FC Phillipson en LJ Fick, albei van Laerskool Louis Trichardt. Nog ‘n Trie gie, Franco Knoetze, en Justin hugo van Ridgeway Independent School, het ook aandag getrek. FC het daarop verras deur 10.38m te stoot. Die organiseerders was verheug, maar het nie besef wat nog sou kom nie. FC het met sy heel laaste gooi gewys dat hy eintlik nog net op-gewarm het. Met sy sesde poging stoot hy ‘n allemintige 10.71m. Sy prestasie verdien hom 764 punte op die ASA-tabel en FC word aangewys as die beste seunsveldatleet van die dag.

Die ander drie beste atlete van die dag is ook Triegies. Die beste seunsbaanatleet is Nsuku Baloyi, wat 715 ASA-punte verdi-en met die 75m hekkies vir SO/12. Nsuku het altesaam vier eersteplekke en een tweedeplek behaal. Dembe Ramuhuyu is die beste meisiesveldatleet, met 817 ASA-punte vir die O/11 gewigstootnommer en Matlou Ngwanatladi (O/13) die beste meisiesbaanatleet vir haar 731 ASA-punte in die 200mH.

Sewe rekords is opgestel, saam met FC se gewigstootrekord. Minelise Reyn-ders, O/12 Triegie-atleet, het beide die skyfwerp- en spiesgooirekords verbeter.

Een van die nommers wat omstanders die asem laat ophou het tydens Laerskool Louis Trichardt se Prestige Uitnodigingsbyeenkoms op 9 Februarie, was die gewigstoot vir seuns onder elf. FC Phillipson (links) verbeter die rekord met .96m na 10.71m, terwyl LJ Fick (regs) ook die rekord verbeter met sy afstand van 9.89m. FC se prestasie verdien 764 punte op die ASA-tabel en hy is aangewys as die beste seunsveldatleet van die dag.

Haar rekordafstande was 21.6m vir die skyfwerp en 25.7m vir die spiesgooi. Nog ‘n atleet met twee rekords agter haar naam is klein Mixo Nxumalo van Drak-ensig, wat die DO/9 60m rekord na 9.5s en die 80m na 12.4s verbeter het. Triegie Surprise Phasha verbeter die 60m rekord vir SO/7 na 10.3s.

Die vier atlete van Triegies wat die SO/8-aflosrekord aan skerwe gehardloop

het, is Ian du Plessis, Surprise Phasha, Lorenzo Nagel en Tinashi Ralapela. Drak-ensig se ster-atleet was Mixo Nxumalo, en vir Souties het Phillip Bessang presteer met twee eersteplekke, een tweedeplek en een derdeplek. Die borge van die byeenk-oms was die Zoutpansberg Privaathospi-taal, Erwee Prokureurs, A2Z Deliveries and Services, Santam, PSG Konsult en Specsavers.

Hierdie groepie is ‘n paar van die topatlete van die Prestige Uit-nodigingsbyeenkoms wat Laerskool Louis Trichardt op 9 Februarie aangebied het. Voor, van links na regs, is die vier Triegie aflosatlete wat die SO/8-aflosrekord aan skerwe gehardloop het, Surprise Phasha, Tinashi Ralapela, Ian du Plessis en Lorenzo Nagel. Agter is Nsuku Baloyi (beste baanatleet), Minelise Reynders, wat rekords in die skyfwerp en spiesgooi verbeter het, FC Phillipson (beste veldatleet) en Dembe Ramuhuyu (beste meisiesveldatleet).
