get comision.He works hard or his ambition but due to hishabbit o interupting senoirs and showing of his knowledge hewas nominated or permanent cookhouse duties by Corporal Turnbull.Corporal turnbull was a young and smart soldier whohad returned rom dunkirkhe was a man not to be tri!ed

with.narrator and his ellow soldiers told each other that theycould hammer nails into him without him noticing it.There arealso many incidents in the story when private quelch outshonehis ellow soldiers"including narrator# on aircratrecognitionwhen proessor interupted the sergeant and he
