ArcGIS Pro at 1.2 will continue to increase the quality, capability and maturity of the most powerful single application within the ArcGIS Platform.It will continue to grow to become the premium Desktop GIS App attracting more users to adopt it for their critical workflows. ArcGIS Pro at 1.2 is an excellent companion to Web GIS both for creating and consuming information.

ArcGIS Pro 1.2 will deliver on customer driven feedback not just for new technology such as better 3D and OGC support, but also on business feedback like more flexible licensing options for Pro as part of the ArcGIS Platform, or as a powerful standalone Desktop GIS supporting many concurrent users within an organization.

Vector maps offer the highest possible resolution for HD and Retina displaysMaps can be rendered without visible pixilation at the largest scales yet the vector format is much smaller than raster tiles of equal quality. The efficient files sizes work well in a variety of applications including mobile access by reducing the amount of data transferred to clients for high quality drawing.

Vector Tiles is a high priority driver for Pro 1.2. The goal is to enable users to create beautiful and efficient vector tile maps from their own data in Pro, publish them as vector tile services and consume them across the platform including Pro. This also adds a paradigm shift in authoring multi-scale maps, by moving away from the traditional multi-scale maps with one group layer per LOD to adding multi-scale support to layers and legend classes. This simplifies the maps greatly.

In Pro 1.1 we added the ability to publish 3D scene services from multi-patch data. In Pro 1.2 we are adding support for authoring, publishing and consuming 3D scene services based on points, lines and polygons. As part of this effort we will also support authoring a cluster renderer for a point layer with a large number of points. The clusters can be computed dynamically on the fly from local data or from feature services that support aggregation using geohash. These clustering properties authored in Pro will be used for cooking the cache of the 3D scene service.

Behind the scenes, we're doing a lot of work that our users won't necessarily see in terms of new functionality, but this work that we're doing for ArcMap 10.4 architecturally will ensure longevity for ArcMap.

We're upgrading our internal compiler. We're using much older technology right now to build ArcMap.

So upgrading that right now, will allow us to stay current with the latest security patches and also add support for Windows 10-- the next release of windows from Microsoft.

An upgrade of the ArcObjects Development environment to support Visual Studio 2013 and .NET 4.5 will be important for our partners and developers. They are currently stuck using Visual Studio 2008 to develop Add-ins, Extensions, and custom solutions.

We've also already seen that these architectural improvements at this early stage have given us better performance in terms of geoprocessing tool results and faster processing. We're also getting faster results for Maplex labeling.

So a nice benefit to some of these architectural under the hood improvements is that we're getting even better performance in ArcMap.23
