Word Bank 核心词汇cross v. 横穿,横渡
traffic n. 交通
英国伦敦泰晤士河上有一座标志性的大桥——
Tower Bridge
There is a great bridge on the River Thames ( 泰晤士河 ) in London. It is Tower Bridge. It is named after its two towers. The 117-year-old bridge is about 60 metres long and its towers are about 49 metres tall.
The bridge has two levels. The upper level has two walkways for people to cross the river. The lower level is a drawbridge for traffic to cross. It can be lifted to let large ships pass through. Usually, river traffic comes before road traffic. When the bridge is opening for ships, all the cars are stopped. The bridge is lifted about 900 times a year!
From the top of the towers, you can have a great view of London. And you can visit the inside of the towers, and watch how the bridge is lifted.
carry the canMeaning: to take the blame or responsibility for something that is wrong or has not succeeded Example: I don’t want to carry the can for his mistakes. 我可不想替他背黑锅。

Goldilocks and
the
Three Bears
One day, Goldilocks went for a walk in the forest. She saw a house and walked in. The house was the home of three bears. Goldilocks saw three bowls of porridge in the kitchen. She was hungry, so she tasted the first bowl. “It’s too hot!” She tasted the second bowl. “It’s too cold!” She tasted the third bowl. “It’s just right!” Goldilocks then walked into the living room. She saw three chairs. She sat on the first chair. “It’s too big!” She sat on the second chair. “It’s too small!” She sat on the third chair. “It’s just right!”
After that, Goldilocks went into the bedroom. She lay down in the first bed, but it was too hard. She lay down in the second bed, but it was too soft. She lay down in the third bed, and it was just right. She fell asleep. The three bears came home. “Someone ate my porridge!” cried the Papa bear. “Someone sat on my chair!” cried the Mama bear. “Someone is sleeping in my bed!” cried the Baby bear. Goldilocks heard them and woke up. “Help!” She cried and ran away.

Our body is an amazing machine, and so are animals’. We can use our eyes to see things, but we can’t see as clearly as a bird. We can use our noses to smell things, but a dog’s nose can smell much, much better than ours. They can even smell when their owner is coming home from outside. Our hands can touch things and feel, but a monkey can feel things better than us. However, our brain can do amazing things that animals can’t. It can take in information and understand it. So we can have new ideas and make them happen.
