I 這本書要探討的問題是:新聞工作者面對什麼控制?如何 突破控制? 這是我擔任報社編輯六年餘期間,親身經歷的難題;也是 轉任大學教職八年多來,教學、研究的核心課題。 實務的體驗 一九八八年五月,我進入一家快速發展的報社擔任編輯。 當時台灣剛剛解除戒嚴、開放報禁,改革浪潮風起雲湧。我先 在地方版歷練五個月,然後依序升任大陸版、社會版、第三版、 第二版、第一版主編。因而得以在報社的核心位置,參與記錄 時代的變貌、見證台灣社會和新聞事業的轉型。 我報導過一九九○年二月起的國民黨主流派與非主流派 之爭、三月的野百合學運、七月達成總統民選共識的國是會 議,以及翌年五月的終止動員戡亂時期,描繪從威權走向民主 的軌跡;我也見識過威權體制新聞控制的殘影,曾撰寫「北市 公車票價八一調漲」的標題而遭到主管訶責,因為「八一」是 中共建軍節,把「八一」寫入標題有「為匪張目」之嫌。 我編輯過一九九一年國代選舉和隔年立委選舉新聞,看到 大批具有黑道背景的地方派系人物進入國會,揭開黑金政治序 幕;我也目睹黑金魅影飄入報社,在一篇又一篇議長賄選、民
