It is the belief that one is capable of performing in a certain manner to attain certain goals.

It is the measure of one's own competence to complete tasks and reach goals.

According to Maura Kear,” “Self efficacy implies a conscious awareness of ones ability, to be effective, to control actions or overcome.

ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES OF SELF -

EFFECTIVENESS

ADVANTAGESHigh level of self efficacy enhance ones

accomplishment.It helps one to remain calm when approaching

challenging tasks.Building self efficacy in multiple areas increases

one confidenceHigh efficacy increases ones willingness to

experiment with new ideas.

DISADVANTAGES High self efficacy don not always guarantee

positive outcome.

Personal factors and distorted memories of previous tasks can distort ones self efficacy.

One can have low self efficacy following failure or setbacks that causes them to lose faith in their capabilities and to develop increased stress and depression.

APPLICATION OF SELF - EFFECTIVENESS

Self effectiveness affects all aspects of life, including exercise and health behaviors, emotional responses, academic pursuits and career choices.

According to Ormrod,social cognitive theorists believe self effectiveness is developed from ones previous success and failures, messages that others communicate, successes and failures of others and the group as a whole.

IMPRESSION MANAGEMENT/SELF -

PRESENTATION

The process by which people control how they are perceived and evaluated by others.

According to Sehlenher, ”Impression Mgmt is defined as the conscious or unconscious attempt to control images that are projected in real or imagined social interactions”.

According to Brown," Self Presentation is any behavior indented to create, modify or maintain an impression of ourselves in the minds of others”.
