ਸਗਲ ਬਨਸਪਤਿ ਮਤਿ ਬੈਸੰਿਰੁ ਸਗਲ ਦੂਧ ਮਤਿ ਘੀਆ ॥ Fire is contained in all

firewood, and butter is contained in all milk.

ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਮਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਘਤਿ ਘਤਿ ਮਾਧਉ ਜੀਆ ॥੧॥ God's Light is contained

in the high and the low; the Lord is in the hearts of all beings. ||1||

ਸੰਿਿੁ ਘਤਿ ਘਤਿ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਮਾਤਿਓ ॥ O Saints, He is pervading and permeating

each and every heart.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਤਰ ਰਤਿਓ ਸਰਬ ਮਤਿ ਜਤਲ ਥਤਲ ਰਮਈਆ ਆਤਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਿਾਉ ॥ The Perfect

Lord is completely permeating everyone, everywhere; He is diffused in the water and the land. ||1||Pause||

You need knowledge. Gurbani is the key.

ਜਾ ਕੇ ਤਨਗਮ ਦੂਧ ਕੇ ਠਾਿਾ ॥ Let the sacred scriptures be your milk and cream,

ਸਮੁੰ ਦੁ ਤਬਲੋਵਨ ਕਉ ਮਾਿਾ ॥ and the ocean of the mind the churning vat.

ਿਾ ਕੀ ਿੋਿੁ ਤਬਲੋਵਨਿਾਰੀ ॥ Be the butter-churner of the Lord,

ਤਕਉ ਮੇਿੈ ਗੋ ਛਾਤਛ ਿੁਿਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ and your buttermilk shall not be wasted. ||1||

ਪਰਥਮੇ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਦੂਧੁ ॥ First comes the butter, and then the milk.

ਮੈਲੂ ਕੀਨੋ ਸਾਬੁਨੁ ਸੂਧੁ ॥ The dirt cleans the soap.

ਭੈ ਿੇ ਤਨਰਭਉ ਡਰਿਾ ਤਿਰੈ ॥ The fearless are afraid of fear.

ਿੋਂਦੀ ਕਉ ਅਣਿੋਂਦੀ ਤਿਰੈ ॥੨॥ The living are killed by the dead. ||2||

ਦੇਿੀ ਗੁਪਿ ਤਬਦੇਿੀ ਦੀਸੈ ॥ The visible body is hidden, and the etheric body is seen.

ਸਗਲੇ ਸਾਤਜ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥ The Lord of the world does all these things.

ਠਗਣਿਾਰ ਅਣਠਗਦਾ ਠਾਗ ੈ॥ The one who is cheated, is not cheated by the cheat.

ਤਬਨੁ ਵਖਰ ਤਿਤਰ ਤਿਤਰ ਉਤਠ ਲਾਗ ੈ॥੩॥ With no merchandise, the trader trades again

and again. ||3||

This Maya is a dream.

ਸਚੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਕਚੁ ਵੈਤਦਓ ਿੂ ਆਘੂ ਆਘੇ ਸਲਵੇ ॥ You believe what is false and

temporary to be true, and so you run on and on.

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਿਸੜੀ ਮੰਤਿ ਨੈਣੂ ਤਬਆ ਢਤਲ ਪਬਤਣ ਤਜਉ ਜੰੁਤਮਓ ॥੨॥ O Nanak, like

butter in the fire, it shall melt away; it shall fade away like the water-lily. ||2||

You will find God in Maya but you must learn to serve God not Maya.

ਚੇਰੀ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤਿ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਨਿੀ ਦੀਸੈ ॥ He serves the maid, and does not

see his Lord and Master.

ਪੋਖਰੁ ਨੀਰੁ ਤਵਰੋਲੀਐ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਨਿੀ ਰੀਸੈ ॥੭॥ Churning the water in the pond,

no butter is produced. ||7||

ਪੰਤਡਿ ਦਿੀ ਤਵਲੋਈਐ ਭਾਈ ਤਵਚਿੁ ਤਨਕਲੈ ਿਥੁ ॥ O Pandit, by churning

cream, butter is produced.

ਜਲੁ ਮਥੀਐ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਖੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਇਿੁ ਜਗੁ ਏਿਾ ਵਥੁ ॥ By churning water, you

shall only see water, O Siblings of Destiny; this world is like that.

ਗੁਰ ਤਬਨੁ ਭਰਤਮ ਤਵਗੂਚੀਐ ਭਾਈ ਘਤਿ ਘਤਿ ਦੇਉ ਅਲਖੁ ॥੫॥ Without the Guru,

he is ruined by doubt, O Siblings of Destiny; the unseen Divine Lord is in each and every heart. ||5||

You have to know the technique.

ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦ ਅੰਿੁ ਨਿੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ Sanak and Sanand, the sons of Brahma, could not find the Lord's limits.

ਬੇਦ ਪੜੇ ਪਤੜ ਬਰਿਮੇ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ Brahma wasted his life away, continually reading the Vedas. ||1||

ਿਤਰ ਕਾ ਤਬਲੋਵਨਾ ਤਬਲੋਵਿੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Churn the churn of the Lord, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਸਿਤਜ ਤਬਲੋਵਿੁ ਜੈਸੇ ਿਿੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਿਾਉ ॥ Churn it steadily, so that the essence, the butter, may not be lost.

||1||Pause||

ਿਨੁ ਕਤਰ ਮਿੁਕੀ ਮਨ ਮਾਤਿ ਤਬਲੋਈ ॥ Make your body the churning jar, and use the stick of your mind to churn it.

ਇਸੁ ਮਿੁਕੀ ਮਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੰਜੋਈ ॥੨॥ Gather the curds of the Word of the Shabad. ||2||

ਿਤਰ ਕਾ ਤਬਲੋਵਨਾ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥ The churning of the Lord is to reflect upon Him within your mind.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਤਦ ਪਾਵੈ ਅੰਤਮਰਿ ਧਾਰਾ ॥੩॥ By Guru's Grace, the Ambrosial Nectar flows into us. ||3||

ਕਿੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਨਦਤਰ ਕਰੇ ਜੇ ਮੀ ਰਾ ॥ Says Kabeer, if the Lord, our King casts His Glance of Grace,

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਲਤਗ ਉਿਰੇ ਿੀਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੧੦॥ one is carried across to the other side, holding fast to the Lord's Name.

You need Sangath.

ਸਾਕਿ ਕਰਮ ਪਾਣੀ ਤਜਉ ਮਥੀਐ ਤਨਿ ਪਾਣੀ ਿੋਲ ਿੁਲਾਰੇ ॥ The actions of the

faithless cynic are like the churning of water; he churns, constantly churning only water.

ਤਮਤਲ ਸਿਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਤਢ ਮਾਖਨ ਕੇ ਗਿਕਾਰੇ ॥੨॥ Joining the

Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, the supreme status is obtained; the butter is produced, and eaten with delight. ||2||

ਜਲੁ ਤਬਲੋਵੈ ਜਲੁ ਮਥੈ ਿਿੁ ਲੋੜੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਅਤਗਆਨਾ ॥ The blind ignorant mortal

stirs the water and churns the water, wishing to obtain butter.

ਗੁਰਮਿੀ ਦਤਧ ਮਥੀਐ ਅੰਤਮਰਿੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਤਨਧਾਨਾ ॥ Following the Guru's

Teachings, one churns the cream, and the treasure of the Ambrosial Naam is obtained.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਿਿੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਪਸੂ ਮਾਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੩॥ The self-willed manmukh is a

beast; he does not know the essence of reality that is contained within himself. ||3||

ਨੀਰੁ ਤਬਲੋਵੈ ਅਤਿ ਸਰਮੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਨੈਨੂ ਕੈਸੇ ਰੀਸੈ ॥ The mortal may churn water until

he is sore, but how can butter be produced?

ਤਬਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਿੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕਾਿੂ ਤਮਲਿ ਨਿੀ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥੩॥ Without meeting the

Guru, no one is liberated, and the Lord of the Universe is not met. ||3||

ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਡੋਲਨੀ ਪਵਨੁ ਿਕੋਲਨਿਾਰੁ ॥ Kabeer, Maya is the butter-churn, and the breath is the churning-stick.

ਸੰਿਿੁ ਮਾਖਨੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਛਾਤਛ ਪੀਐ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੧੮॥ The Saints eat the butter, while the world drinks the whey. ||18||

ਕਬੀਰ ਮਾਇਆ ਡੋਲਨੀ ਪਵਨੁ ਵਿੈ ਤਿਵ ਧਾਰ ॥ Kabeer, Maya is the butter-churn; the breath flows like ice water.

ਤਜਤਨ ਤਬਲੋਇਆ ਤਿਤਨ ਖਾਇਆ ਅਵਰ ਤਬਲੋਵਨਿਾਰ ॥੧੯॥ Whoever does the churning eats the butter; the others are just churning-sticks. ||19||

Karma's are written on the mind. You get things in this life from your previous life. Don’t be envious of others.

ਪਾਪੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਿਾਏ ਿਾਇ ॥ The sinners act, and generate bad

karma, and then they weep and wail.

ਨਾਨਕ ਤਜਉ ਮਥਤਨ ਮਾਧਾਣੀਆ ਤਿਉ ਮਥੇ ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ॥੯॥ O Nanak, just as the

churning stick churns the butter, so does the Righteous Judge of Dharma churn them. ||9||

ਿਰੀਦਾ ਦੇਤਖ ਪਰਾਈ ਚੋਪੜੀ ਨਾ ਿਰਸਾਏ ਜੀਉ ॥੨੯॥ Fareed, if you see someone else's buttered bread, do not envy him for it. ||29||

Clean the mind. Chant. Stay awake.

ਭਾਂਡਾ ਧੋਇ ਬੈਤਸ ਧੂਪੁ ਦੇਵਿੁ ਿਉ ਦੂਧੈ ਕਉ ਜਾਵਿੁ ॥ Wash the vessel, sit down and anoint it

with fragrance; then, go out and get the milk.

ਦੂਧੁ ਕਰਮ ਿੁਤਨ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ ਿੋਇ ਤਨਰਾਸ ਜਮਾਵਿੁ ॥੧॥ Add the rennet of clear

consciousness to the milk of good deeds, and then, free of desire, let it curdle. ||1||

ਜਪਿੁ ਿ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥ Chant the Name of the One Lord.

ਅਵਤਰ ਤਨਰਾਿਲ ਕਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਿਾਉ ॥ All other actions are fruitless. ||1||Pause||

ਇਿੁ ਮਨੁ ਈਿੀ ਿਾਤਥ ਕਰਿੁ ਿੁਤਨ ਨੇਿਰਉ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ Let your mind be the handles, and

then churn it, without sleeping.

ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿੁ ਿਬ ਮਥੀਐ ਇਨ ਤਬਤਧ ਅੰਤਮਰਿੁ ਪਾਵਿੁ ॥੨॥ If you chant the Naam, the

Name of the Lord, with your tongue, then the curd will be churned. In this way, the

Ambrosial Nectar is obtained. ||2||
