This spring even the proper warm days seem somehowreluctant to appear. And we would really like to spendour lunch break outside, in the gardens of Airport City, and after work walking beside the river when there’stime and organizing various open-air meetings andjoint projects. It seems June will having varying hues, atleast that’s what the long-term forecast predicts. Stillwe will try to organize as many shared joyous andcolourful moments as possible in the Avenue. This time we bring you photographs of ACB fromangles that perhaps in your daily rush you did not havetime to notice. The moody May even brought us a minihurricane to New Belgrade – our camera didn’t man-age to record that, but other media did.So what to wish for you? For your summary of half-yearresults to be successful and positive; for your spring toend sunnier than it began; and for the upcoming sum-mer to be for all of us an introduction to a fruitful andsunny autumn. Or is that still too far away? Let’s then stick to more realistic wishes: lots of sun, lightJune afternoons and... see you during lunch break inthe Avenue!

Uputstvo o formatu i veličini materijala dobićete uskoro mailom.

Editor’s word Dear readers,In front of you is new issue of What’s up. I wouldn’t like to recognize it as amilestone/issue no 10, but rather as an end of a cycle. With that in mind, Iwould like to dedicate the next cycle and next issue to your messages: we willenable all clients to design their own space and send a message about pro-duction, services, innovations, your business philosophy... or whatever elseyou want to share. You will soon receive instructions via mail on the formatand size of material. I look forward to cooperating on the next issue. In this issue times and topics related to energy occupied our attention. Besidethe fact that we will strive to improve our centre by introducing systems thatallow us to reduce energy consumption, we know that most of our clientshave articulated the need for energy conservation and more responsible useof energy resources in their corporate codes of conduct. In Serbia it will taketime for legislation, but also the way of thinking and behaviour, to approachstandards that are part of everyday life in European countries, but that is anecessity. The creative solutions and whole new area of economic activity thatarise in the wake of such a reflection of the future may look like something rel-atively new and modern, but not fashionable, and today we can not afford theluxury of looking at them like that or thinking that some others need them –that is a need that will set clear boundaries tomorrow between efficient andsustainable systems and unsustainable ones. Once again we wish you nice weather! Sincerely yours,

The climate in Europe in the coming period, whichalso means Serbia, will be characterized primarily bya reduction in average precipitation, especially insummer, as a result extreme temperatures and heatwaves, then an increase in average temperaturesand a shorter snow season, followed by moreintense rainfall, or an increase in the number of dayswith intense rainfall and the number of days withoutprecipitation, said Danijela Božanić, Head of theClimate Change Department of the Ministry ofEnvironment. Though the reason for the interviewwas the current situation regarding the fight againstclimate change and the position and tasks of Serbiain that regard, the kind of snowfall that has not beenwitnessed in living history in this region emerged asthe main topic of conversation. Our interlocutor said that the study of climate trendsto the year 2100 has been completed and shows thata difference exists between climate change in south-ern and southeast Europe and the north and north-west of the continent, according to which northernclimbs will do better, if such a thing can be said.Globally this change will lead to an increase in theaverage annual temperature.-You’ve already had a rise in temperature; when hasit previously reached 43 degrees in Belgrade, as it didlast summer? And when you take the mean value ofall averages you see an increase. This is exactly thesame trend in the entire region of southeast Europe. There is a difference from northern Europe in thatthere is a perceived increase in average annual tem-peratures there, as well as increased rainfall, while insouthern Europe an increase in average annual tem-peratures has been marked by decreased rainfall, stressed Božanić.
What are Serbia’s obligations like as a UN mem-ber in the fight against climate change?-As a country we do not have such obligations for2012. As things stand after the Durban conference onclimate change in December 2011, the 35 most devel-oped countries have accepted the second obligatoryperiod starting from 2013 to 2020. All other statesaccepted the obligation to adopt a new protocol anddocument by 2015 that will start to be applied from2020 and which would seem to impose obligations oneveryone, though of course not the same obligationsfor all. On the other hand, we should not forget thatSerbia is heading towards the European Union, whichis very strict and explicit on the issue of combating cli-mate change and where activities aimed at reducinggreenhouse gas emissions are really crucial. The EUpassed its own package of laws aimed at reducingemissions back in 2009 and clearly showed that it isexpected that everyone will now contribute to that inaccordance with their possibilities. Simply harmoniz-
ing our legislation with the EU will ensure we must donecessary work in that direction.

Winters like this all the way until the year 2100? Danijela Božanić, Head of the Climate Change Department of the Ministry of Environment
03Airport City Belgrade newsletter
Considering the need for energy efficiency and con-sequently reducing costs, Airport City has startedimplementing the Building Management System(BMS), which controls the operation of all energyconsumers. This is a centralized control and manage-ment system that existed at Airport City before. However, due to the huge increase in energy pricesworldwide and the impact this growth rate has, weare trying now to minimize costs while maintainingthe same level of comfort at our centre.
This spring saw Airport City make additional invest-ments to enable the implementation of this system atall locations, which will allow maximum control of allmajor consumers of energy. These include gas supplychambers, boilers and other energy hubs, as well asspecial air conditioning units located on buildings forthe most important parts of equipment that have thegreatest impact on that energy balance.
Software protects the purse...This system isn’t any sort of innovation for designersof large buildings and large systems. It is a sophisti-cated automated software system that enables con-trol of power consumption, through computers andreaders on the devices themselves, within givenparameters and based on customer needs, the build-ings themselves and, above all, climatic conditions ata given moment. The system automatically adjustsdetermined flows of energy according to the task ofachieving an optimal level of comfort in the build-ings and minimizing energy consumption.
For us this year, 2012, will be a period to determinethe optimal use and maximum utilization of theadvantages of this system. It is no coincidence that itis precisely at this time that we have decided to payattention to this aspect of improving the ACB sys-tem: the growth of energy prices atthe global level is something thatno one can predict with accuracy. We hope that we will feel theresults of implementing this sys-tem during the course of thisyear, primarily through the redu -ced bills from EPS and Srbi jagas, our major suppliers.
In addition to benefits in terms ofreducing costs in line with globaltrends, the savings that are achieved byimplementing this kind of system alsoadvance the battle for the preservation of theplanet, which is part of the corporate philoso-phy of most of our clients.
Elektro distri bu cije i Srbijagasa kaonaših najvećih snabdevača.

The working day never ends Maintaining such a complex and massive systemmeans that every working day starts, but often doesnot end. Our team is online 24 hours a day, whichmeans that, in addition to regular working hours, part of the team is on duty at night and on week-ends. There are a number of subcontractors who arealso online – available whenever needed. We try torespond on time to any requirement and ensure thatany possible client complaint is maximally reduced.Sometimes we receive many requests at the sametime, but we strive on a daily basis to resolve all pos-sible problems and be maximally effective inresponse to client requests. In a business park of thissize there can always be problems that take sometime to resolve, due to supply issues, complicateddemands and the replacement or repair of compli-cated equipment, but in such situations the relation-ship with the client is based on open communica-tion and providing complete information, whichgives us all a sense of security. I have not comeacross any misunderstandings from clients regard-
ing objective operational conditions and I believethat our openness and efforts to meet any demandor resolve any problem as quickly as possibleinspires trust among our clients. I believe that ourdedication and hard work are heading in the rightdirection: that clients come to work at our businesspark and leave with a smile on their face and withoutfeeling that they have to worry about anythingexcept their own job.
Nor does the system sleep ACPM handles the maintenance of Airport City. This meansensuring that the park functions flawlessly, starting fromthat which everyone can see with the naked eye, such ascleaning and park security, to the proper functioning of allinfrastructure systems: heating and cooling, gas supply, water, wastewater disposal etc.
Responsibilities also include services for clients relat-ed to their specific requirements. These might not bepart of our basic agreement, but we strive to meetcustomers’ needs because we have a professionalteam that is reliable and always at the service ofclients, which also suits them. Sometimes these arelittle things the resolving of which “life depends on”,for example setting up a projector that just refusesto work at the worst possible moment, hanging apicture or providing material a client needs for apresentation, all the way up to and including specif-ic and sometimes technically complex services intheir office space.
Trust in expertise From the moment work is finished on the develop-ment and interior design, which Airport City isresponsible for and has a special technical team tolead, the office space is handed over to the client andfrom that moment ACPM ensures that everythingfunctions in the best possible way, through dailycoordination with the client. ACPM takes care of thebasic systems of buildings and the common areaswithin them, while one indicator of success is thefact that customers most commonly turn to us whenthey need to solve some problems in their space, even though they have a choice.
It was one snowy winter for usEvery season brings with it a specific job for a certainpart of the year. This is the time when some thingssimply awaken after this winter, which was quitesevere and snowy. It was a serious task and chal-lenge to ensure ACB Park functioned in those mostdifficult days, when virtually the entire city was

blocked. What we are especially proud of is that oursnow clearing service operated very successfully 24hours a day, which clients could feel. With the nakedeye you could see the really huge differencebetween what was happening here and in theneighbourhood. We gave our all, both in terms of manpower andtechnical support. We really carefully conducted theclearing plan on a daily basis and monitored theweather situation and meteorological forecastshourly. Work was also done at night to ensure thatclients could approach the building when theyarrived for work in the morning. We even cleared thesurrounding streets as much as possible, becausethey are actually under the jurisdiction of the Citybut, since they are not high priority streets, the Cityprobably would not even have reached them.We are very proud of our winter work this year - it wasnice to see that things can function so well even in suchextraordinary and unusual situations as last winter.
Somehow, with spring With the arrival of spring many beautiful thingsawaken: the fountains work again, massive works arecarried out on the maintenance of greenery andplanting. Airport City is among the venues with themost representative green spaces in the city, because the team responsible for this important seg-ment of the business pays daily attention to it. WhatI do know – not just from talking to clients, but alsofrom city tales – is that we have become recognizedas an example of beautiful landscaping and, thus, aplace with a different atmosphere.
Regular reviews and controls Regular reviews, repairs and controls of all systems atthe complex are carried out regardless of whetherthey are defined by legal provisions or recommenda-tions of manufacturers and suppliers of equipment, and the fact that these are often technically verycomplex and demanding systems. We are especiallyproud of the fact that the latest control of the fireprevention system, carried out by those responsible, showed that they operate at the highest level. Someminor faults that are otherwise common in terms ofoperation are already in the process of being elimi-nated, because the safety of our clients is one of ourimperatives.
U zaduženja spadaju i usluge klijentima u vezi nji-hovih posebnih zahteva.

If Serbia were to utilize its total renewable energypotential it could cover 25 per cent of the country’stotal energy consumption, according to analysis con-ducted by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS).
Aleksandar Perić, PKS Presidential Advisor for Energy, announced that Serbia’s total renewable energypotential is estimated as being equivalent to over 3.8million tonnes of oil annually and that hydropowerand biomass energy are priorities for realizing thenation’s renewable energy potential – the impor-tance and future application of which are outlined inthe Energy Development Strategy of Serbia.
He clarified by noting that biomass has the greaterrenewable potential and would provide 63 to 80 percent of the total, i.e. its use would replace 2.4 to 2.6million tonnes of oil. About a million tonnes of thatoil equivalent is represented by the potential ofwood biomass, while 1.4 million tonnes relates toagricultural biomass.
The potential of solar energy is estimated at equiva-lent to 640,000 tonnes of oil, or 0.1 tonnes per squaremetre of installed solar panelling, while wind energycould replace about 200,000 tonnes of oil. The cur-rent level of wind power utilization in Serbia is negli-gible, but significant potential exists, as indicated byestimates of 1300 MW of electricity produced if windturbines were installed across the whole of Serbia.
On the European beetExpert analysis suggests that significantly improvingenergy efficiency is essential for Serbia because it iseven lagging behind its neighbouring countries inthis domain and is currently at the level of a third ofthe average energy efficiency of the 26 states of theOrganization for Economic Cooperation andDevelopment (OECD).
“Energy efficiency has been identified as one of thepriorities of the National Strategy for the EconomicDevelopment of Serbia, the National Programme forEnvironmental Protection and the Energy Deve -lopment Strategy, and only that can primarily lead tobetter energy management,” Perić assessed, high-lighting that with good planning and managementof energy use in Serbia’s industrial sector, alongsideappropriate investment in energy efficiency process-es, the level of utilization of these energy resourcescan be raised very quickly, with the possibility ofreturns on investment in a relatively short period.
At a recent meeting on the correlated growth ofenergy efficiency with increasing use of alternativesources of energy, organized in Belgrade by theCentral European Forum for Development (CEDEF), itwas estimated that the Law on the Rational Use ofEnergy, which is currently in the final stage of compi-lation, will contribute to increasing energy efficiencyand better management of energy in Serbia.
Participants of the meeting included representativesfrom the industry and the state, as well as business-men whose livelihood depends vitally on these mat-ters. According to them this law will contribute toincreasing the security of energy supply, but, equal-ly importantly, will also reduce the existing level ofenvironmental pollution.
Electricity at bargain pricesAs stated, the adoption of this fundamental law, aimed at improving energy efficiency in Serbia andreducing delays for SEE countries, will create thebasis for the introduction of standards in the energyconsumption and energy management sectorsthrough energy management, prescribing obliga-tions to carry out energy audits and introducingincentives and other measures aimed at increasingenergy efficiency and the rational use of energy.
It was concluded that there are several obstacles hin-dering greater use of renewable energy: proceduresfor investment are long and complex, regulations areinadequate and standards are only partially defined.A particular hindrance is the current price of electric-ity of €0.05 per kilowatt hour, which indicates a lackof economic viability, or that renewable energywould not be competitive because of regulated elec-tricity prices. Another open question is the extent towhich the existing distribution network could sup-port the connecting of renewable energy capacitieswithout investment and how much that would bereflected in the price of electricity. It is preciselybecause the production of electricity from renewablesources is more expensive than production from fos-sil fuels that incentives for investment in powerplants are introduced. Serbia generally lacks facilitiesfor the exploitation of renewable sources of energyother than hydropower, but a shift is also evident inthis area following the announced construction ofseveral new facilities that have attracted the interestof investors from Italy, Germany and even China. A particular problem is represented by the lack ofdeclared production equipment, with technicalstandards for equipment having only recently beenintroduced. For now Serbia produces biomass boil-ers, wind turbine generators (Siemens factory inSubotica) and a new type of non-contact drive gen-erator for wind turbines. The Law on the Rational Useof Energy will enable the introduction of higher cus-toms tariffs and VAT on inefficient equipment inorder to improve quality.
Science-based Heating
Professor Radivoje Mitrović, State Secretary atthe Serbian Ministry of Education and Science, assessed that science, as a respectable reso-urce, should be answering questions of how toreduce energy consumption and how to use aslittle energy as possible to heat as large an areaas possible, with the Belgrade Universityincluded in projects of this type. Throughreduced energy consumption we create thepossibility for the Serbian economy to be com-petitive and there is no growth withoutexports. Innovation should not be regardedmerely as technological, rather change shouldstart from one’s own behaviour to a model of afunctioning society, he said.

The effects of the credit line of the European Bank forReconstruction and Development (EBRD) forSustainable Energy in the Western Balkans can be con-sidered as three in one: helping increase employment, saving energy and reducing the greenhouse effect – itwas said at a recent presentation held by the SerbianChamber of Commerce (PKS).This same meeting, devoted to exploring the possibili-ties offered by this credit line, also included theannouncement that the first mini-hydro power plants inSerbia to be financed from EBRD funds for SustainableEnergy will begin producing electricity in June.Consultants engaged on this project said that 20 loansfrom this programme have been granted in Serbia, worth a total of €21.6 million and realized through thebanks Banca Intesa, Unicredit and Societe General. Six ofthese loans are intended for the construction of mini-hydropower plants, the first of which will begin to pro-duce electricity in June this year at subsidized rates forthe purchase of electricity. Some 64 projects were approved by March this year onthe regional credit line for renewable energy and energyefficiency, covering Serbia, Macedonia and Bosnia &Herzegovina, worth a total value of €33 million. Theimplementation of these projects will generate annualsavings of 553,000 megawatt-hours of electricity andwill reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by about104,000 tonnes.Alexander Miladinović, of the EBRD representative officein Serbia, said that assistance through these soft loans isavailable to SMEs with majority private and domesticownership. In terms of industries, all sectors are applica-ble except banking, financial services, the military andtobacco industries and gambling. Projects in the fields ofenergy efficiency, renewable energy and environmentalprotection can be supported through this credit line. Todate support has been granted to over 300 companies, the majority of which have fewer than 50 employees. Itis estimated that this will contribute to strengtheningthe SME sector that otherwise faces numerous opera-tional constraints.
New loans and opportunitiesThe EBRD fund that powers the sustainable energyfor the Western Balkans credit line (WebSeff ) still hasabout 10 percent of total assets, or €5.8 million, unallocated. The bank is considering the possibilityof approving eight more loans from this line inSerbia. Applying for these funds is possible for pri-vate companies with projects that deliver savings of20 percent of energy production or use renewableenergy sources.

Spring means allergy... I just started working here and I really like thisbusiness park, especially the spaces betweenbuildings. The greenery is nicely maintainedand there’s plenty of it. In several years or sev-eral decades they will be tall trees.Spring does not affect me particularly, except that this year I have more intensespring hay fever allergy. Otherwise I’m not afan of this replacing of spring with autumn. Idon’t like it, but I guess we are destined toexperience it more in the coming yearsbecause the climate is clearly changing.Climate change is inevitable, but I don’tthink any of us can do anything to prevent it.That is a nice philosophy suggesting every-one can contribute, but generally I don’tthink they can without any great movementand actual support from large organizations.A lot doesn’t depend on the efforts of indi-viduals in a world with almost seven billionpeople, from the efforts of isolated individu-als in their communities. This is particularlyso in areas like ours, where you are seen asstrange people if you exert effort over that.

Rain is my daughter! The rain doesn’t bother me. I love it, which iswhy my daughter is called Kiša (Rain).Besides her there is another girl with thatname, so now two Rains live in Belgrade. I’mpersonally not bothered by a rainy and coldspring, but I believe that it bothers otherpeople because they have a problem withmoisture; they feel they do not know whichseason it is and what kind of day awaitsthem…For me the exterior area of Airport City is
wonderful. The greenery and fountains arequite beautiful and I can’t see how anybodycould not enjoy looking at them. Here wehave everything, but I would add a kinder-garten; a nursery for Kiša and other childrenof employees in the business park.

Smoke from a white tent I’m lucky that my office is on the north sideand is always cooler than on the south side, which is why on that side we have an openspace with just a few conference rooms. Idon’t currently feel any problems from cli-mate change and I'm not afraid of it. I wouldalso have liked for this spring to be sunnier, but what can you do about that? What am I lacking at ACB? Well, I'd like it if wehad a big white tent in the middle of thepark, covering a couple of benches that wecould sit on during the summer. One tent toensure we would not be in direct sunlightwhen we are taking a break or smoking.Otherwise smokers are lucky here becausewe don’t have to smoke next to rubbish binslike they do in the West. Rather we can gooutside in this beautiful space.
Martin Luo Wenchao, general director of ZTE Serbia
The weather is also great hereMany people think I'm from Japan or SouthKorea, but I’m actually from China. ZTE is oneof the four largest companies in telecommu-nications and I have been in Serbia since lastyear. When I first entered Airport City I expe-rienced a positive shock and today I think it'sthe best part of Belgrade. The business parkis modern and the neighbours are the bestcompanies. Here is a mini world, with manypeople from different places – Italy, SouthKorea, Poland, Norway, the U.S. etc. I oftenbuy food at the mini market and I am satis-fied with what’s on offer. In China they eatthree times a day, but here the main meal isactually dinner, in accordance with workinghours, so I also had to adjust my meal sched-ule. Serbia is characterised by culture andtradition, good food and very friendly andopen people. For me the weather is also great here. Raindoesn’t bother me in the slightest. On thecontrary, I come from southern China, whereit is always very warm. That’s why for me it’sneither too hot nor too cold; here it’s thebest because there are still four seasons. Ilove snow because I ski, so this winter I wentto Kopaonik a few times. Climate change canbe felt, because winter was relatively dryand warm in Belgrade, then in February amassive amount of snow fell. The globalproblem is the warming that particularlyaffects the warmer, more southerly regions, where it is getting even hotter and that isnot easy to handle.
Martin Luo Wenchao, generalni direktor ZTE Srbija
Srbiju odlikuju kultura

i tradicija, dobra hrana i veoma srdačni iotvoreni ljudi. Meni je ovde i vreme super. Kiša mi ni malone smeta. Naprotiv.

His Highness SNOWI am from Pakistan and have already spentten months in Serbia, where I am working onnew projects. Airport City is a great place towork and provides good opportunities. Youcan head downstairs and walk around duringyour break; there are cafes and restaurantsand you can also sit on the benches when theweather is nice. What is missing is a gym in the business park, because there are many people who wouldwork out in the morning before work, duringtheir break or after work. If you train regularlyit’s good to have somewhere to train nearyour work – in that way you save time andcertainly exercise more than you would oth-erwise. Spring is beautiful here, but unlike last yearthere was a lot more rain. I adore the weatherhere, because in Lahore it is now 50 degrees.I was delighted by the snow in Belgrade, because it was the first time in my life that Ihad ever seen it. At first it was tough, but Iquickly grew accustomed to it and reallyenjoyed the snow. Since the temperature inPakistan does not drop below 40 degreesfrom spring onwards, the climate in Belgradeis fantastic even with the August heat. As forclimate change, we cannot make muchimpact as individuals, but each of us canmake our own contribution. In our companywe recycle everything that it is possible torecycle and that is our contribution. In Pakistan not only is the average tempera-ture increasing, but for two years we’ve alsohad terrible floods that have caused tremen-dous damage, with a portion of the popula-tion still without homes.
Saša Rakić,director of Rukosad d.o.o
Good spirit of trees Company Rukosad from Lajkovac maintainsthe greenery of the ACB business park. Theeveryday rain of this spring moved the timefor planting greenery by two weeks. Nowbegonias have been planted and will be inflower until the end of September. I person-ally do not feel much change, except when itis humid, but bad weather cannot do muchharm to the greenery of Airport City becausewe take good care of it.As for global climate change, I'm not surethe climate is changing as much as it’s beingspoken about.I planted trees here in October 2005, whenthe park was still under construction. Plantsreact to touch and attention; trees are pre-cious and feel everything around them.Native Americans would lean against thetrunks with their backs up against them anduse their skin to establish communicationwith the tree. The spirit of the forest wouldgive them the strength to do everythingthrough the trees. And these trees givestrength to Airport City.
I ovo drvećedaje snagu Airport City-u.

Park with a viewI found it tough to endure this spring. I feeldiscomfort when the weather changes, but Iknow from experience that what is happen-ing to us now is a normal spring. The prob-lem is that earlier we did not have a spring oran autumn, but rather jumped straight fromwinter to summer. Forecasters say that this isall absolutely normal for this time of year. Itis known that May and June are rainy
months here. We are probably all bored of italready because we want some stableweather after a long and cold winter. Wedesire heat and sunshine. Here I feel very comfortable, Airport City is a"friendly place to work", as the English say. Itis very pleasant. The trees are right wherethey should be and everything is so wellarranged that I can see that maximum care istaken to maintain it.It’s simply a beautiful view. It’s pleasant. Itsuits for a short break during work. I person-ally don’t lack anything here. I am very satis-fied that all my banks are here, both busi-ness banks and where I personally bank, there is content for a person to relax or eatsomething. In a word, everything is OK forme. Maybe anything more would be toomuch.
