    ANAO YOUNG LEADERS

CONVERGENCERED connotes ACTIVISM. But this time, activism should be redefined once more--that it is not all about street protests andrallies but can now be manifested by be-ing involved on finding and addressingthe solutions to the problems and ills ofour society.

A gathering of youth leaders in Anaoinitiated by the Youth of Iglesia Filipina Inde-pendiente (YIFI) was launched on Oct. 31,2008 at the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Hall

which focused on youth empowerment andsharing of visions and dreams for this younggeneration with a total of 9 organizations .

This convergence is part of the YouthIdol line-up of activities. The event is also anadvocacy program to unite all youth sectorsin our town. It consists of team building ac-tivities, presentation of Youth Idol candidatesand activity reports from each participatingorganizations.

The program started with a prayer led

by Prince King Lagania, president of Churchof the Lord Pentecostal Independent

Early Christmas GiftBy: Marianica Philina Labagnoy

Many young children nowadays do nothave anything. They dont have food to eat, clothes to wear and others who are reallyunfortunate does not even have shelter tolive in. Some young children of Anao are stillvery lucky because they do not experience

one of those.Baguindoc, being far from the townproper has always been chosen as one ofthe recipients of YIFIs activities. A gift givingwas held at the Day Care Centre last Octo-ber 26, 2008. The Youth Idol Finalist donatedtoys to the Kids Centre, which was usedduring the gift giving. Some of the officersand members of JLGU, SSG and SK of Ba-guindoc were also there to give the donationsto the children ages 3-12. Ms. Christina Sa-cayanan day care worker of the barangay is

also present. YIFI donated some toys to theDay Care Center. The activity served as anearly Christmas gift to the less fortunate chil-

    dren.

It is heart-warming seeing those chil-dren wearing smiles on their faces especiallywhen you have given them something theyreally appreciated. So for all of us, continueto share Gods blessing and in return we will

    receive more.

    19Youth Idol Special Edition

Being a youth nowadays can be consideredas a great task for every young man in our soci-ety. This is because there are some who consideryouth as a destroyer in their places. And it is nowyour task, young people, to change that kind of

thinking that people use to believe.

Yes, it is true that we are still young to dosomething different in our community. It is reallyhard to do great things which can help our placesto improve, and the hardest one is the stage ofplanning a certain goal or activity that will createan impact. But have you already try to do suchthing? Or have you ever think once in your lifethat you can help improve your community mostespecially your fellow youth? There is no harm intrying. Do you know that by just showing yoursimple care to your society, you can create a

good foundation for your intention to help improveyour place? And do you know that through thatgood intention of yours, God is the only one whowas so pleased? The Bible says, We please Godby what we do, and not by what you believe. frombook of James 2:24, and The Lord looks downfrom heaven on all mankind to see if there arewise, who want to please God.Psalm 14:2.God has emotion too, and bringing pleasure toHim is a form of worship, which can bring you intoyour success. You cannot see your intention ofchanging the bad image of youth if you will notbegin planning and moving right now. We can not

erase the fact that not all people are born to beleaders some are made to be leaders, and someare destined to be a followerbut whoever in thisthree, you still do a great role to be played for thepositive changes for your community. As a young

leader, whether youare born or made to belike that, you must puton your mind and most especially on your heartthat you are in that position because majority likesyou. You must be setting your self as a goodexample, and you must be mature enough tohandle your fellow youth and you must also con-sider not only your plans but also those that yourconstituent makes them happy and contented.

And the most special thing that you must consideras a young leader is the good interaction orPAKIKISAMA, which will mold you into a goodleadership. On the contrary, being a good followerwill complete that success of a certain goal. Agood member should consider his/her-self in acertain group. Discriminating your-self doesnt

help you to the goal of your organization. Youmust participate in every side of your program. You are not born to be a non-sense individual.God created every humankind fairly, and it is yourtask to motivate your self how to be an effectiveindividual. I know that every youth wants to becalled ASTIG in every aspect of their lives. But Iwant to emphasize that being PASAWAY ormaking silly thing is not a form of being ASTIG.The greatest way to be that way is to create apositive change and impact in your society, andalways impress and dedicate your plans to Godthat is the meaning of being ASTIG.

Always remember the verse Dont let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set the believers an example in speech, inconduct, in love, in faith, and in purity. 1Timothy4:12

It is composed of 10 ministriesand committees. Each ministryhas a major program every year. Its official newsletter is YEEFEE.They also have a website wherethey share their activities to their

fellow YIFI as well as otheryouth organizations. They wereblessed because they were ableto join the search for the Ten

Accomplished Youth Organiza-tion (TAYO) and it is throughGods grace that they made it toTop 10 in Luzon.

The said program is asearch for young ambassadorswho can be role models for thisgeneration. It is also an advo-cacy program to unite the differ-

ent youth sectors in this 5th

classmunicipality in Tarlac. Throughwholehearted cooperation andinvaluable support of youthleaders, the program was madepossible in partnership withdifferent organizations such asthe Sangguniang KabataanFederation (SKF), SupremeStudent Government (SSG) andJunior Local Government Unit(JLGU) of Anao High School,

Anao Riders Club (ARC) andPag-asa Youth Association of

the Philippines (PYAP). YouthIdol is divided into JuvenileRejuvenation Program for kidsand other social welfare activi-ties, the Environmental Pro-grams (Youth Initiatives againstGlobal Warming, eg. Tree Plant-ing, Mini-Exhibit: Animals inDanger and Miss Ecology),Youth Empowerment (leadershiptraining, young leaders conver-gence) and Performing ArtsDevelopment (singing, dancing-

hiphop, ballroom, jazz, andtheatre acting). The finals night

    showcased

the candidates in jaw-droppingmusical and dance perform-ances as well as in their SportsWear and Retro Walk. The kidsministry also trained kids to do afantastic production number in

their environmental creaturecostumes with the song entitledParaiso sung by two bright song-bird-ies Danna Mie Aliado and

    Alysa Magbitang.

It is also during the YouthIdol season that we featureremarkable and notable person-alities who are active youthleaders during their time.

Even if Anao is just a 5 th

class municipality, it is not leftbehind in terms of human devel-

opment. It may lack the technol-ogy but young leaders reallywant to step out from their com-fort zones to make a differenceand eventually become progres-

    sive soon.

This Youth Idol programbecame a gateway for opencommunication and dialog be-tween youth organizations in thetown. The walls that divide theyouth because of religious differ-ences were minimized because

of the goal of Youth Idol which isto unite every youth in our soci-ety.

We based the theme ofYouth Idol from 1 Timothy 4:12,"Don't let anyone look down onyou because you are young, butset an example for the believersin speech, in life, in love, in faithand in purity".

In speech- on how we saywords of encouragement

In life- on how we live by ex-

    amples

In love- on how we give loveand how compassionate we are

to our fellow brothers and sisters

In faith- on how we respond toGods call and on how we holdon to the assurance of our

    hopes and dreams

In purity- in terms of not havingbad vices and all kinds of immor-ality

It is the goal of Youth Idolto strengthen the relationshipsbetween youth leaders andevery young individual in ourtown. The organization believesthat they have to energize theyouth in order for them to besoon partners in nation-buildingand for the advancement of oursociety. The program also wantsto instill social consciousnessand moral re-awakening not only

to the finalists but also to otherparticipants and even the organ-izers themselves. The programalso aims to redefine activism-that it is not only seen in streetsbut also includes participationand involvement in addressingthe problems and ills of oursociety. This is not just an ordi-nary talent search because oneof its motives is that the youthwill have a shifting from involve-ment in bad vices to enhance-

ment and development of talent. This noble project is really

design to mold and to craft aservant leaders heart. Its al-ready a clich weve been say-ing ever since in grade schoolthat ang kabataan ang pag-asang bayan (the youth is the hopeof the future). But clich as itmay seem, that statement nowholds true because we are nowthe hope of the present. Thetime has come to stand for what

we believe in many years ago. Itis now the time to be a hope forour country. Arise young genera-

Environ-mentality is a way of thinkingconcerning the equilibrium of the ecosystemas well as how to protect our nature and how

to combat eco-disturbances such as pollu-tions which lead to the abnormal warming of

    our environment.

The Youth Idols, together with someother youth organizations in Anao provedthat they have this kind of mental power. Asa quick response to the call or shall I sayWAIL of our Mother Nature. These youngpips gathered last October 28, 2008 to startthe cure through tree planting. This activityaims to empower the advocacy of the younggeneration in alleviating the effects ofGLOBAL WARMING. Superficially, this taskwas Youth Idol pre-judging activity.

It was misty morning when they startedto walk to the site near the white tombs of

Anao Public Cemetery, carrying their treeguards, pegs, simple tools and mahoganyseedlings. Nearly 7:30 A.M., when at lastthe sun blasted onto the eastern horizon andenergized the youth. Mrs. Tessie C. Qui-

mado, Adviser on Internal Affairs of YIFIguided these youngsters and also judged the12 Youth Idol as part of prejudging. The San-guniang Kabataang Federation (SKF), Stu-dent Supreme Government (SSG), JuniorLocal Government Unit (JLGU), Youth ofIglesia Filipina Independiente (YIFI) andother youth of Anao participated in this cool-

    est activity.

Wanna be in and be COOLANTS inthis warming globe. Start in your own houseson how to manage your waste. You can alsochoose a site which is ideal for tree plantingand we will join you.
