Review: What is Lent?Three traditional practices of Lent are:

1. prayer (justice towards God)2. fasting (justice towards self)3. giving to the poor (justice towards

neighbor)

Some believers choose to give up a vice, add something to their life that will bring them closer to God, and often give the time or money spent on vices to church or other

charitable purposes.

Matthew 6:19-24 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light.”

Mark 7:22-23 “greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.' "Luke 12:15 “Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.’ ”


Ephesians 5:5 “For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”Colossians 3:5 “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.”

Warnings against selfish gain, “GREED”

1 Timothy 6:9-10 “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”


1 Chronicles 29:14 "But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”

Who is the master of your heart?

2 Corinthians 8:5 “This they did, not as we hoped, but even beyond that, first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us, by the will of God.”

inventory and decide upon a way during Lent that you will use your God-given treasures to serve the

Lord and others.
