Y2. About Industry-academia Collaboration of Drivetrain Technology9:30 to 12:30Improving the fuel efficiency of automobiles, which have a significant impact on CO2 emissions, has become more urgent than ever in terms of addressing the issues of energy security and global warming. In that respect, transmissions are also required to offer improved environmental performance. Improving that performance will require setting up measurement standards and establishing measurement technologies for data that has not been the object of research and development by individual manufacturers in the past, or building formulas and models of the phenomena to make the fundamental root principles clear. This Committee is pursuing joint research on elucidating the scientific phenomena in the main academic fields of mechanical friction, fluid friction, fluid control, and electrification technology, as well as on basic and applied technologies to model those phenomena. The outcome of this research will then be incorporated in product development by the various automakers and increase their competitiveness.

Y10. Encouragement and Spread of Automatic Collision Notification – Current Situation and Spread Strategy9:30 to 12:30The planning of this forum arose from the need to make automatic collision notification (ACN) systems and advanced automatic collision notification (AACN) systems, which additionally provide damage injury estimate information, better known and more widespread in Japan. Outside Japan, Russia and countries in Europe are taking steps to make the installation of ACN systems mandatory in new vehicles, but there is no equivalent movement in Japan, where the rate of popularization if lagging far behind. Nevertheless, a framework to provide automatic notification of accidents is in the works, as shown by start of operations of the AACN service that requests the dispatch of a medical helicopter or other emergency vehicle (D-Call Net). This forum introduces the current situation regarding AACN systems in Japan, as well as popularization strategies prepared by the Japanese government, the automotive industry, or other organizations, and is also intended to foster greater interest in automatic collision notifications systems among a wide range of people. An injury estimation algorithm is essential to AACN systems, and the unique Japanese algorithm developed with support from the national government will also be featured. Now that the framework for the AACN system has been established, the popularization of vehicles equipped with the system will be emphasized as the final outstanding issue.
