Familielede is gebroke ná die ontydigedood van die Brackenfellse polisieman,Adriaan Geldenhuys, wat bestempel is

as ’n saggeaarde gesinsman.Geldenhuys (42), ’n polisiebeampte by die

publieke orde-polisie-eenheid in Faure, isVrydagaand na bewering deur sy vriendindoodgesteek ná ’n hewige argument tuis.

“Polisie, wat gereageer het op ’n radio-klagte, het Geldenhuys dood in ’n plas bloedin sy huis (in De Oude Spruit) aangetref.

“Sy 37-jarige vriendin is in hegtenis ge-neem en het Maandag op ’n klag van moord

in die Blue Downs-landdroshof verskyn,” sêkol. André Traut van die provinsiale polisie-mediakantoor. Volgens Traut is die paartjiese 11 maande oue babadogter kort ná die in-sident in ’n plek van veiligheid geplaas.

“As ’n stiefpa het hy die rol van ’n vadervertolk. Hy was ’n ware pa-figuur – iemandwat elke dag met my gespeel het en gesels

Two weeks after a vicous attack ona Johannesburg attorney in ProteaHeights, Brackenfell police yester-

day apprehended a third suspect alle-gedly connected to this incident.The victim, Jongikhaya Gwe (42) alle-

ges that the attack was racially motiva-ted and laid charges of assault with theintent to do grievous bodily harm andhuman rights violati-ons charges againstthree men.The third suspect,

(age unknown) an ar-med response officer(ARO) from local secu-rity company SJC Se-curity, was releasedon R500 bail yesterdayand warned to appearin the Kuilsriver ma-gistrate court on 9May.The attack against

Gwe occured when hevisited Brackenfell over the weekend of18 and 19 April to take part in the TwoOceansMarathon on the 19th. He stayedwith his sister Siphokazi Hans in Brac-ken Street.He was allegedly attacked while out

for a morning stroll the day before therace.According to Gwe, he was walking

down Jacaranda Street when a memberof the neighbourhood watch stoppedhim and asked what he was doing theredemanding he produce his identity do-cument.WhenGwe told him that he did not ha-

ve his identity document on him, hewal-ked away and turned into MimosaStreet.At this point, three security compa-

nieswere contacted on the radio and cal-led to Mimosa Street to assist theneighbourhood watch member with “asuspicious black man”.

In the events that followed, Gwe wasallegedly attacked by the member of theneighbourhood watch, as well as by anarmed response officer from another se-curity company (see TygerBurger, 30April or www.TygerBurger.co.za for thefull story).Dean Jansen van Vuuren, an armed

response officer from Bolt Security, wit-nessed part of the attack.He described the events to TygerBur-

ger as follows: “When we arrived in Mi-mosa Street, the initialskirmish between Gwe,and the other ARO hadalready ended. The AROof SJC, arrived on thescene minutes later andasked the ARO of theother companywhat hadhappened. After beingtold that Gwe was appa-rently the aggressor, hesuddenly turned on Gweand repeatedly hit himwith a fist. Gwe then pul-led back and bent downto the ground, when the

ARO again kicked him on the side of hisface,” said Van Vuuren.At this point Van Vuuren realised

Gwe needed protection and he interve-ned by removing Gwe from his attac-ker’s grasp.“What happened was very wrong and

Gwe was really badly hurt. I realisedthat if I did not keep him safe the attackwould have continued. I stood betweenhim and the ARO, who again attemptedto hit him. Gwe showed me his bar card(as practising attorney), which I thenshowed to the ARO,” says Van Vuuren.According to Van Vuuren the ARO

tried to cut the bar card in two whileshouting racist remarks at Gwe.“I was really shocked. Nothing about

it was right or justified,” he said.SJC Security owner Charl du Toit ye-

sterday said the ARO had been suspen-dedwith immediate effect, pending a fullinternal investigation.

Twopitbull terriers attackedandbadly in-jured a 26-year-old Parow woman duringthe early morning hours of Monday 5May.According toWOJacquesMostert of the

Parow police, the woman was walkingalong Voortrekker road close to the An-dries Pretorius plaza just after 03:00,whenshe was approached by a 20-year-old manfrom Elsies River and his two dogs.A security guard, who saw the incident,

says it is rumoured themanwas planningrevenge for a soured business deal.Mostert denies this, saying the man in-

the attack and tried to assist the woman,but the dogs would not let go.First trying pepper spray on the dogs to

no effect, one of the officers shot andkilledthem.The woman was rushed to Tygerberg

hospital where she is being treated formultiple wounds on her face, legs andarms.According to Mostert, her condition is

stable.Themanwas arrested and an attempted

Die sogenaamde “Kraaifontein-slag-ter”, Johannes de Jager, is verledeDinsdag in die Wes-Kaapse hoogge-

regshof skuldig bevind op die moord vandie tiener, Charmaine Maré (16).

Charmaine se verbrande kop en torso isverlede jaar in Januarie in ’n oop stuk veldnaby Brightonstraat in Kraaifontein ge-vind.

Nadat De Jager aangekeer is, het hy haarafgekapte bene en arms aan die polisie uit-gewys waar hy dit in ’n boks in die motor-huis en in ’n verlate gebou naby Somerset-Wes gaan versteek het.

Charmaine het tydens haar moord by DeJager, sy vriendin, Carol White, en Whitese dogter, Kristen (Charmaine se vriendin),tuisgegaan.

Die vermoorde tiener het glo haar ouer-huis in Kriel in Mpumalanga verlaat om inKaapstad werk te kom soek.

Charmaine het by De Jager agtergeblytoe die res van die huisbewoners met va-kansie gegaan het.

In die dae voor haar moord het Charmai-ne telkemale gepleit dat De Jager haar invrede moet laat. Polisie het dié ontstellendepleidooie op 15 opnames gekry wat sy ophaar foon gemaak het.

Die foon isnáhaarmoord indieKraaifon-tein-huis gekry,waar sy in daardie stadiumtuisgegaan het.

Die waarnemende regter, Chuma Cossiehet bevind dat De Jager se weergawe vangebeure hoogs onwaarskynlik was.

De Jager het ontken dat hy Charmainedoodgemaak het. Volgens hóm het sy perongeluk op 11 Januarie 2013 in die badka-mergegly enhaarkop teendiebadgestamp.

Hy het getuig dat hy paniekerig geraakhet en besluit het om haar liggaam eers teversteek, en toe later, op te sny en te ver-

brand.Hy kon egter nie aan die hof verduidelik

hoekom hy nie mediese dienste ontbied hetná Charmaine se beweerde val nie.

Cossie het bevind dat De Jager die lykprobeer wegsteek het om die omstandighe-de rondom Charmaine se dood te verdoesel.

Hy is skuldig bevind op twee aanklagtevan moord. Die ander moordklag hou ver-band met die moord in 2008 op Hiltina Alex-ander.

De Jager is ook skuldig bevind op tweeaanklagte van verkragting van Alexander,twee van lykskending van Charmaine, en’n aanklag van roof met verswarende om-standighede, het Die Burger berig.

Volgens dié dagblad het De Jager skuldontken op al die aanklagte, behalwe dié vanlykskending. Hy het erken dat hy Charmai-ne se arms en bene afgekap het toe hy vandie lyk probeer ontslae raak het.

De Jager is skuldig bevind op al die aan-klagte en is tans vonnisafwagtend.

‘Slagter’ skuldig opal die aanklagte

Die verhoor wat verband hou met die doodvan Sulene de Klerk (51), ’n plaaslike onder-wyser, kan moontlik eersdaags terug op diehofrol geplaas word hangende die uitslaevan verdere forensiese toetse.

De Klerk is op 6 April 2012 dood aangetrefin haar huis in Sonkring.

Haar liggaam is om 17:30 in haar slaapka-mer aangetref met ’n diep sny in haar bo-been en ’n wond aan haar kop.

polisie se mediakantoor het ten tye vanhaar dood bevestig dat sy dood is as gevolgvan bloedverlies.

Daar is eersvermoeddat dit selfdoodwas,maar volgens ingeligte bronne het bewyseop die misdaadtoneel dié moontlikheid uit-geskakel.

Volgens ’nTygerBurger-bron was die snyaan haar been vermoedelik veroorsaakdeur ’n leë glasbottel, wat ook op die toneelgevind is, en was daar tekens van ’n struwe-ling wat in die huis plaasgevind het.

Die geregtelike nadoodse ondersoek is la-ter verander na ’n moordondersoek.

Na ’n ondersoek van slegs twee weke isJohan van der Merwe (52) deur ’n polisie-taakspan by sy huis in Brackenfell in hegte-nis geneem in verband met die moord.

Volgens polisie was hy bekend aan dieoorledene.

Die Kuilsrivier-landdroshof het in die-selfde maand borg toegestaan aan Van derMerwe, maar die saak is etlike maande la-ter teruggetrek.

Volgens ao. Erica Crous van die Bracken-fell-polisie word daar tans gewag vir die uit-slae van sekere forensiese toetse, wat saluitsluitsel gee oor die saak.

De Klerk was vir 15 jaar lank as onderwy-ser verbonde aan die Laerskool Bracken-fell.

‘No limits’ meeting about social media

Die inwoner wat in ’n kompleks in Prote-ahoogte woon, het ná maande se “gespook”dit reggekry om twee “groen” dromme bydie Stad te kry.

Die dromme is egter nooit deur die Stadse herwinningsdienste leeg gemaak nie.

“Ons twee dromme het vir meer as ’nmaand buite gestaan en niemand het ditkom haal nie. Ná baie e-posse aan die muni-sipaliteit, het ons besluit om maar die drom-me in te bring. Ons wil graag ons kant bringdeur te herwin, maar ons word dit net een-voudig nie toegelaat nie. So nou gaan allevullis maar in een drom,” vertel sy.

Sonnenberg sê nou dat die dromme ver-keerdelik aan haar uitgereik is en dat ditnooit moes gebeur het nie.

“Die suidelike grens van die area waardie herwinningsprojek, Think Twice,plaasvind, is Ou Paarlpad, wat Proteahoog-te dus uitsluit,” sê hy.

Volgens hom is die projek net in ’n be-perkte aantal areas van stapel gestuur.

“Dit is gedoen sodat amptenare die resul-tate kan bestudeer en die haalbaarheiddaarvan kan evalueer,” verduidelik Son-nenberg.

Die projek is dus vir nou net in ’n data-in-samelingsfase.

“Die Stad vra om verskoning vir die inwo-ners vir die ongerief wat daardeur veroor-

saak is. Ons is egter baie dankbaar vir diebelangstelling wat inwoners toon in her-winning. Hoewel ons nie in die stadium dieherwinningsdiens aan almal kan voorsiennie, moedig ons diegene aan om gebruik temaak van die herwinningsfasiliteit inKraaifontein,” sê hy.

Die sentrum is geleë op die hoek van Ma-roela- en Sandringhamstraat.

Matric dance expoat Fairmont HighThe parents forum of Fairmont HighSchool in Durbanville is presenting amatric dance expo with the title “MD-X2014”.

Sy sê ’n tweepersoon-stuk soos Vir Ewigen Altyd het groot uitdagings, omdat jy nooitvan die verhoog af is nie. “Die akteurs moetbaie fyn ingestel wees op mekaar. Jy kan nievir ’n oomblik konsentrasie verloor nie. MetMarius is dit maklik. Hy’s iemand wat ekvertrou. Ons ken mekaar goed en het al so-veel verskillende verhoudings teenoor me-kaar gespeel. Ons hoef mekaar nie van vooraf te leer ken nie. Dit is wonderlik om weersaam met hom op die verhoog te wees,” sêsy.

KwelpunteDie kwelpunte wat in dié stuk uitmekaar

gehaal word, gaan hoofsaaklik oor genade-dood. Sandra se karakter hoor sy is termi-naal siek en sy vra haar man (Marius) omhaar te help sterf. Die stuk speel hom mees–tal af waar hulle as ’t ware wag dat sy moetdoodgaan. Sandra bring die grootste deelvan die toneelstuk deur in ’n bed – haar sterf-bed – en het net haar stem om mee te “speel”.

“Ja, die storie is hartseer,” vertel sy,“maar daar is ook baie komedie, en konfron-tasie. Dis beslis nie net ’n gekerm in ’n bed

nie!”Sandra sê die rol was vir haar moeilik,

veral die voorbereiding.“Voordat ek die rol kon verstaan, moes ek

soos my karakter ook vir alles totsiens konsê. Een aand het dit my heeltemal oorval. Ekwas so ontsteld, want ek moes alles kon groeten dan weer op ’n punt van vrede kom.

“ ’n Mens kan jou amper nie daarin indinknie om ’n keuse vir genadedood te maak.Mense hoop maar altyd op ’n wonderwerk,vir ’n uitkomkans,” mymer sy.

Vir Ewig en Altyd het staande ovasies bydie KKNK, waar dit geopen het, gekry.

“Dis altyd fantasties as mense opstaan. Byhierdie stuk het baie mense ook agternalank bly sit. Hulle was diep geraak. Genade-dood is ’n onderwerp wat in almal se onder-bewussyn broei. Ons wonder of ons dit be-hoort te doen, of dit wettig moet wees.”

KeuseSelf glo sy ’n mens behoort die keuse te hê

tot genadedood. “As ek dit vir my honde, watek die liefste op aarde het, kan doen, behoortons tog ook die keuse te hê.”

Sandra reken mense moet die stuk gaansien. “Dit vra ernstige vrae en is ’n baie deli-kate, baie mooi stuk en is toeganklik – ’nmens hoef nie uit te figure wat aangaan nie.”

En waarmee is Sandra Prinsloo nog besigas sy nie op die verhoog is nie? “Ek’s baieselde nié op die verhoog nie!” lag sy. Tansspeel sy ook in Oskar en die pienk tannie,Wie’s bang vir Virginia Woolf? en Die Naai-masjien. Tussendeur werk sy bietjie in dietuin, gaan stap met die honde, gesels metvriende, lees, “maar dit gebeur maar min!”.

Sy beplan om in Junie in Italië te toer en la-ter vanjaar in Rusland. Sy bly in Kalkbaai.

Cape cyclists ready for SA champsA strong Western Cape track cycling team is ready for the national championships in Durban.

Provincial colours were recently awar-ded to the Western Cape track cyclingteam ahead of the South African Track

and Para-Cycling Championships takingplace in Durban from 29 April to 3 May.

These cyclists will compete in the teamevents against the other participating pro-vinces.

TheWestern Cape has an active track pro-gram and the team was selected based onperformances at the Western Cape champi-onships and trails held at the Bellville Velo-drome.

This is the first time that a Western Capeteam has been selected as previously, Capeteams were split into Boland, WP, West Co-ast and South Western Districts.

The Western Cape has a very strong teamthis yearwith athletes such asnational teamriders Jeanne Smith and Kyle Borchjesspearheading the men’s elite team. Both Ja-co Scholtz and PeterWheeler, who represen-tedSouthAfrica at theMastersWorldCham-pionships in Manchester, will be riding inthe master’s team.

The full team ranges from u-16 to masters

and also includes a strong ladies sectopm.Elite national track cyclist Maroesjka Mat-thee will spearhead the ladies team. She isjoined by Bronwyn Abrahams, Debbie-Lof-fell Dawson and Myrtle Hagedoorn to com-plete the ladies team.

Morocco calling Rocco“I am really looking forward to competing

in Morocco. If I can do well there, I have achance of being selected to compete in the In-tercontinental Cup amonth later, which is al-so in Morocco.“If I can accomplish that, it will be a huge

honour to represent Africa against the othercontinents,” said Rocco confidently.If all goes according to plan, Roccowill first

So-metimes I can be all over the showwith mythrows, but Kari and I are working on mytechnique and back here I am working onmy own with a lot of drills. Things are co-ming together nicely now,” he said.

Niggling injuries“As with any sport I struggle with one or

two niggling injuries but it’s nothing seri-ous. I do a lot of gymwork, especially in theoff-season, and when I prepare for competi-tion my preparation involves a lot of run-ning, work on the medicine ball and lightgym work.”His goals for the future is set - travel to

asmany countries as possible and compete.“Competing in the Olympic Games will

be the ultimate, and I believe I can reachthe 90m plus mark. It will be great to sayit is my job to be a professional athlete.“God gave me this talent, and it’s my res-
