EU je od 01. januara 2012. godine. u proces certificiranja, kako materijala tako i arhitektonskih objekata, uvela dvije nove kategorije crtificiranja.
• Ukupna potrošnja primarne energije koja je potrebna za svaki zasebni materijal ili element koji je ugrađen u objekat od momenta vađenja istog iz prirode, transporta, prerade, ugradnje do momenta korištenja i recikliranja.
• Emisija CO2 u toku prerade, ugradnje i korištenja te recikliranja materijala.
