Taps cut water consumption by up to 50 %
As of September, IKEA is the first retailer in the world to go all in for LED lighting.
LED bulbs use 85% less energy and lasts 20 years. With this action, IKEA is enabling millions of people to save on power bills – and to reduce climate impact.

Democratic Design
Innovative MaterialsThe IKEA design philosophy drives a push toward materials that are recycled, recyclable or renewable.
The LUSY BLOM pillow is stuffed with leftover materials from IKEA quilt production.
The PLUGGIS range of bins and organizers is made from 100% recycled PET plastic
The new SINNERLIG range includes chairs, benches and tables made from natural cork.
Responsible Suppliers
Commitment to sustainability drives our long- term commitments to companies that supply millions of cubic metres of raw materials from around the world.

IWAY
The IKEA code of conducts sets standards for suppliers of products, materials and services.

Locally, we are working with our own suppliers.
By 2017, all our contractors in waste management, security and home delivery will be compliant to global IWAY standards.

Sustainable Cotton
As of September, all the cotton in IKEA products is grown following sustainable farming practices
This means:
• Less Chemicals
• Less Water
• Improved soil conservation
• Improved gross margin for farmers

Recyled PlasticsBy 2030, all plastic products in the IKEA range will be made from recycled materials.
Sustainable FisheryBy end of Feb 2016, IKEA will source all its seafood from sustainable sources
Sustainable ForestryBy 2020, all paper cardboard and wood in the IKEA range is to be sourced sustainably –recycled or FSC-certified.
Sustainably Sourced Palm OilGlobally, the IKEA goal is to source 100% of palm oil from sources independently verified as sustainable and responsible by the end of this year
This means the oil in IKEA candles will be traceable to producers that are certified as sustainable: from plantation to manufacturer.
IKEA is preparing to go beyond the global standard by 2017. We want to ensure palm oil in our products does not come from plantations contributing to deforestation in any way.
Sustainable
Operations
The IKEA commitment to sustainability extends to our local retail operations. We have secured sustainable palm oil is used in all our IKEA kitchens.
IKEA was the first retailer to eliminate plastic bags in Malaysia in 2011. We have donated MYR 300,000 from our blue-bag sales to WWF’s Eco Schools Programme

In Malaysia, we recycle 72% of the waste we produce in our business….

In Thailand, we have covered our store and shopping centre rooftops with solar panels – and are pumping green energy into the Bangkok electrical grid.
