SUMATI BALWANA school with a difference!

Sumati Balwan, located at Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi nearKatraj, a benevolent initiative of like mindedindividuals is an example of a noble idea turning intoa successfully working model.

This school was started in June 2001 on a no-grantbasis and is a hope for more than 100underprivileged and/or orphaned students coming

from the economically backward strata of society.

How we do this?

NOVEL TEACHING TECHNIQUES

At Sumati Balwan, we adhere tothe playway method of

teaching. This includes educationthrough games, charts, visualsand toys.

Our teachers selflessly strive to

bring about an all rounddevelopment of each childphysically, emotionally andintellectually. Self dependenceand dignity of labour are fewamongst many other things we

impart the children with.

How we do this?GURUKUL STYLE OF TEACHING

Sumati Balwan houses around 20orphaned children on a permanentbasis. These children live in theschool premises and attend schoolduring the day.

Two in-house matrons, take careof the children 24/7. Right frommonitoring their health toimparting moral education, themaushis help the children growin a cheerful haven.

How we do this?

INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT

Apart from what the curriculumdemands , we also conductmeditation & yoga sessions,physical education andgymnastics.

We encourage the children todraw, paint, sing and play. Fewhours every day are dedicated tothese extra-curricular activities.

VOCATIONAL TRAINING

Students are taught bread-winningskills like making of Soap, Phenol,Shampoo, Solar Cooker, GreetingCards and Paper Bags.

After SSC, if a student showsinterest in pursuing furthereducation, we guide him/herappropriately in steering hiscareer in the right direction.

Alternatively, if a student is eagerto make a living due to monetaryconstraints, we impart vocationalskills such as driving, mechanics,sewing and provide basicinfrastructure as needed.

At Sumati Balwan, we also inviteveterans in various fields asguests to speak to the olderchildren and counsel them.

This uplifts their self-esteem andalso helps them face the worldwith confidence.

Volunteer:

Speak to the children, guide them suitably, tell stories or teach songs.
