What is Hukum?

God is Hukum

The mind has to accept the Law of Truth.

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਸਾਹ ਗਿਰਾਹ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥੨੩॥

The giver of Hukam, gives us Sa Gra

(sustenance and the breath of life). ||23||

ਕਾਮ ਕਰੋਧ ਵਗਸ ਕਰੈ ਪਵਣੁ ਉਡੰਤ ਨ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ ਗਨਰੰਕਾਰ ਕੈ ਵਸੈ ਦੇਗਸ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੁਗਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ Lust and anger are brought under control,

when the Pavan does not fly around,

wandering restlessly. Dwelling in Nirikar’s

Desh, realizing the Hukam, His

contemplative wisdom is attained. 1395

ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ਤ ਨਉ ਕੁਲ ਬੰਧੁ ॥ ਪੂਜੈ ਪਰਾਣ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਿਰੁ ਕੰਧੁ ॥ ਕਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਇਆ ਕਹਾਂ ਏਹੁ ਜਾਣੁ ॥ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਤ ਰਹੈ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਿੈ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥ ਇਹੁ ਪਰਸਾਦੁ ਿੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ ਹੋਂਦਾ ਫੜੀਅਿੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਣੁ ॥ ਨਾ ਹਉ ਨਾ ਮੈ ਜੂਨੀ ਪਾਣੁ ॥੨॥

One who controls the uncontrollable closes the nine holes of the body.

One who worships and adores the Lord with his prana, stabilizes his body (wall).

Where has he come from, and where will he go?

Remaining dead while yet alive, he is accepted and approved.

Whoever understands the Hukam realizes the essence of reality.

This is known by Guru's Grace.

O Nanak, know this: egotism leads to bondage.

Only those who have no ego and no self-conceit, are not consigned to reincarnation. ||2|| 1289

ਜੋ ਵਰਤਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਭਲ ਮਾਨੈ ਬੁਗਿ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਦੁਰਮਗਤ ਜਾਲੀਐ ॥੭॥ Whatever happens, accept that as Good.

Realize the Hukam, and your Durmat will be

burnt away. ||7|| 1019

3 qualities of Maya

Sato gun compassion,

contentment, humility,

tolerance, moral control

(WATER)

Tamo gun Sexual behavior, Anger,

Greed Attachment, Pride

(FIRE)

Rajo gun Hopes Wishes, Desires

Anxiety ,Worries (PAVAN)

God Thoughts

ਗਕਵ ਸਗਚਆਰਾ ਹੋਈਐ ਗਕਵ ਕੂੜ ੈਤੁਟੈ ਪਾਗਲ ॥ ਹੁਕਗਮ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਗਲਗਿਆ ਨਾਗਲ ॥੧॥

So how can you break the wall of separation

between you and Truth? Walk in the way of

Hukam and accept it, for it is written in you.

||1||

ਮਸਤਗਕ ਹੋਵ ੈਗਲਗਿਆ ਹਗਰ ਗਸਮਗਰ ਪਰਾਣੀ ॥

Oh breather of breath on your forehead is

written do Simran on Har. 319

ਗਸਫਗਤ ਸਾਲਾਹਣੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥ ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਧਆਨੁ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਸੋਈ ਜਪੁ ਜੋ ਪਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਪੂਰ ਗਿਆਨਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ To accept the Hukum means to, practice of

Sifth Salah, (praise). That which pleases

You is Gyan and Dhyan. Do Jap in a way

that pleases God; when you accept His Will

that is pure knowledge. ||1|| 100

ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਤਿੁਗਰ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਿਾਇ ਜੀਉ ॥੫॥ Namm is Hukum; Nanak says, the Sat Guru

gives this understanding. ||5|| 72

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਿੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥ਸਾਚੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥੩॥ He alone, who understands the Hukum, is

approved. Sacha Shabad is his Nishan (Mark/

insignia) that he has been accepted. ||3|| 386

ਰਹੰਤ ਜਨਮੰ ਹਗਰ ਦਰਸ ਲੀਣਾ ॥ ਬਾਜੰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦ ਬੀਣਾਂ ॥੧੩॥ When the Blessed Vision of the Lord's

Darshan is obtained reincarnation is ended, .

O Nanak, the Shabad plays within. ||13||

ਕਰਮ ਕਰਤੂਗਤ ਬੇਗਲ ਗਬਸਿਾਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਫਲੁ ਹੂਆ ॥ ਗਤਸੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਿ ਅਨਾਹਦੁ ਵਾਜੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਗਨਰੰਜਗਨ ਕੀਆ ॥੧॥ The deeds you do spread like a vine its fruit

is Namm.

It has no form or shape; it plays as Anhad

(unstuck), and the Shabad that is revealed

is beyond Maya. 351
