Hydrolytic degradation in waterwas conducted for reference. The effects of composting duration onchanges in molar mass, glass transition temperature and degree ofcrystallinity of the polymeric material were monitored using gel permeationchromatography (GPC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

Puglia Ternary polymeric films based onpoly (lactic acid), obtained dispersing cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) andlignin nanoparticles (LNP) at two different amounts (1 and 3% wt.),respectively in neat PLA and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) grafted PLA (g-PLA), were produced by melt extrusion. Thermal, optical and mechanicalproperties, as well as the morphologies of CNC and LNP reinforced PLAnanocomposites, were investigated. Results from UV-Vis characterizationhave confirmed a synergic effect of LNP and CNC based nanostructures interms of transparency and UV light blocking capability.

The effect of processing conditions (casting and extrusion) and plasticization on the disintegrability in composto f o rgan i ca l l y mod i f i ed c l ay po l y (3 -hyd roxybu ty ra te ) nanocompos i t es was s tud ied .Tributylhexadecylphosphonium bromide (TBHP) was used as organic modifier. As revealed by WAXS andTEM observations, intercalated nanobiocomposites with clay stacks and some individually dispersed plateletswere obtained. The melting temperature of the neat PHB diminished with the addition of plasticizer, thusbroadening the processing window. Biodegradation test revealed that while the clay slows down thedegradation rate, the plasticizer increases the degradation of the samples, reaching a similar final percentageof disintegrability when both plasticizer and clay were added in the formulation.

According to several epidemiological studies, the lycopene content oftomato and tomato-based products is related to a variety of health benefits.This has sparked interest in knowing the effect of processing and storageof tomato products on this carotenoid, in order to preserve it duringmanufacturing and distribution till consumption. Furthermore, in the lastfew years special attention has been paid to the changes of all-trans andcis-isomers of lycopene during processing and storage. In fact, cis-isomershave shown higher health-promoting properties than all-trans isomers.Heat, light, oxygen, food matrices, and ingredients such as oil are factorsthat have an important effect on the main lycopene degradation reactions:isomerization and oxidation.

Itcan be modified with various additives (plasticizers, chain extenders etc.)or by preparing blends with other polymers. Such blends can be furthermodified by addition of functional fillers in order to improve final properties.In the paper an anisotropic polymer composite was developed based onpoly(butylene succinate)/poly(lactic acid) matrix with carbon nanotubes asa filler.

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHHx) is a versatile,b iobased and b iodegradable copolymer f rom the fami ly ofpolyhydroxyalkanoates. This study aims to further ameliorate its propertiesin order to enhance its applicability for food packaging purposes throughpreparat ion of organomodif ied montmori l loni te c lay (OMMT)nanocomposites. Nanocomposites based on pure PHBHHx as well ascommercial PHBHHx granulate, after a previous dry-mixing with OMMT inconcentrations of 1, 3, 5 and 10 wt%, were prepared using melt blendingand compression molding.

The tamper-evident tab is joined to the base onopposite ends by a breakable land and a permanent land. The tamper-evident tab is movable by breaking the tamper-evident tab free from thebase on one end by breaking the breakable land and bending the tamper-evident tab out of the way about the permanent land to provide access tothe peripheral edge of the lid.

A method of plastic moulding to form a moulded or extruded article, themethod employing a moulding apparatus comprising a barrel containing ascrew extending between a feed zone supplied by a feed hopper forplastics material, a compression zone and a metering zone for delivery ofmolten plastics material to a mould or extrusion die, the method comprisingintroducing into the feed zone a first plastics material (20) and a singlebody of a second plastics material (22), the first plastics material (20)having a different physical property to the second plastics material and thesecond plastics material (22) being introduced into the feed zone in a sizeand a frequency of delivery relative to the flow of the material through thebarrel such that the second plastics material (22); is substantially meltedand blended with the first plastics material to form a third plastics materialwith a different physical property to the first or second plastics materialacross the whole cross sectional area of the metering zone, the moltenplastics material delivered to the mould or extrusion die in a predeterminedsequence with each plastics material having different physical properties.

When pellets fall into the first screw channel in the feed zone, the angledflights of the screw push them downstream, as well as around the barrelcircumference. The amount conveyed depends on their size and shape(bulk density), how much they stick to the barrel and how well they slip onthe screw root.
