Blogs by Government

MOPAS and NEMA run the blogs for risk communication and public education

Provide valuable in-formation to public including emergency procedures, emer-gency kits, and disas-ter information

However, not much participation from public and this re-sults in one way communication

Risk Communication using Social Media in Korea

• Government is the main driving force in risk communication and disaster man-agement area using social media

• Current usage does not fully cultivate the web 2.0 features – One way communication : mainly providing risk and

disaster situational information to public – Mainly focused on warning and alert functions

• Using highly advanced information technology infrastructure

Page 13: Risk Communication by Social Media in Korea

• Disseminate real time disaster situa-tional information using location-based GIS – Lessons learned from torrential rain accidents in

2011– Disseminate the risk areas information to public

based on the real time disaster situation– Send the real time disaster information to naviga-

tions in cars and mobiles device to not to approach the risk areas to public (Advancement of CBS, DMB and Apps)

– Focused on two way communications
