RADIOGRAPHY & IT’S MODALITIES
TERMONOLOGY:
Radiology
1 : a branch of medicine concerned with the use of radiant energy (as X-rays) or radioactive material in the diagnosis and treatment of disease 2 : the science of radioactive substances and high-energy radiations
RADIOGRAPHY & IT’S MODALITIES
TERMINOLOGY:
Radiologist
A physician specializing in medical radiology

TERMONOLOGY:
Radiographer/Medical Radiographer/X-ray Technologist
A nonmedically qualified person who assists the radiologist in imaging (diagnostic radiographer) or the radiotherapist in treatment (therapeutic radiographer). (16 Dec 1997)

TYPES OF EQUIPMENT
Diagnostic Radiology Room: consists of equipment that takes radiographs of patients helping radiologists to make a diagnosis.

TYPES OF EQUIPMENT
Cat Scan (CT) Computed Tomography
Computed tomography (CT) is a medical imaging method employing tomography. Digital geometry processing is used to generate a three-dimensional image of the inside of an object from a large series of two-dimensional X-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation. The word "tomography" is derived from the Greek tomos (slice) and graphein (to write).

TYPES OF EQUIPMENT Magnetic Resonance Imaging
(MRI)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is primarily used in medical imaging to visualize the structure and function of the body. It provides detailed images of the body in any plane. MR has much greater soft tissue contrast than computed tomography (CT) making it especially useful in neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and oncological imaging. Unlike CT it uses no ionizing radiation, but uses a powerful magnetic field to align the magnetization of hydrogen atoms in the body.
RADIOGRAPHY & IT’S MODALATIES
Interventional RadiographyInterventional radiology (abbreviated IR or sometimes IVR or VIR) is a subspecialty of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using image guidance. Some of these procedures are done for purely diagnostic purposes (e.g., angiogram), while others are done for treatment purposes (e.g., angioplasty
RADIOGRAPHY & IT’S MODALITIESMammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.

PET SCAN Positron emission tomography (PET) is a nuclear medicine imaging technique which produces a three-dimensional image or map of functional processes in the body. The system detects pairs of gamma rays emitted indirectly by a positron-emitting radioisotope, which is introduced into the body on a metabolically active molecule.

FUSION IMAGING
Fusion imaging is the combination of the anatomic detail advantage of CT or MRI imaging with the functional imaging information of spect and PET imaging.
