    HYDROSTONETheatre

After studying the site for this Theatre design project, in the Hydrostone area of Halifax,

NS, it was apparent that there was a disconnect between the corner site and the circula-tion paths of the local residents. People avoided this lot, choosing rather to cross thestreet before coming to this area. I wanted to rectify this and create a welcoming place

for people to gather. I chose to work with the articulation of the Hydrostone market streetfront and the green space adjacent, and create an open courtyard that would be a place

for local residents to use throughout the day.

MARITIME MUSEUMPavilion Designed as an annex pavilion to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax NS. Thisbuilding design took its inspiration from local boat houses and vernacular construction. The

Maritime museum is a display of mans relationship with the sea. This pavilion helps celebrate

and emphasize this relationship by retaining a relationship to open water in one half and thejuxtaposition of the feeling of an enclosed boat house in the other.

    SOUTH WEST SHADE- STUDY

This 50000 sq-ft building was designed to replace the existing chemicalengineering building on the Sexton campus of Dalhousie University. This building is intended to bring together Architecture, Engineering

and Planning students. The varying articulation of the facades was astudy into self shading, which could reduce the need for supplemen-

    tary shading devices.

The Potlotek reserve in Cape Breton, NS, require a building to accommodate displaced high

school students until a new much larger school is built. Additionally, this building is to serve as acommunity space and has to be adaptable for multiple uses, now and in the future. The four studyrooms are divided by movable wall panels, that allow the space to adapt and change its size and

congurations. A large outdoor deck provides connection to Nature and space for an outdoorclassroom. (Construction is scheduled for 2013).
