The Story of Two Rabbits兩隻白兔的故事

Two rabbits, namely Kobe Byrant and Britney, were adopted in Pets Central Mongkok.

Kobe, a male rabbit with grey hair, was found near one of our vets’ home in September last year. He was in a healthy state, but appeared to be thin. Kobe was brought to Pets Central Mongkok and given meticulous care by our nurses and vets. He was quite bad-tempered and scared. After a five-month stay in Mongkok, he was finally adopted in early February.

Britney, a female rabbit with lion hair, was found on the stairs of our Mongkok clinic in a rubbish bag on 4/2. Unlike Kobe, she was gentle and kind to our nurses and vets. She was adopted in mid-February.

被帶到旺角的診所檢查。他當時沒有大礙，只是有點瘦而已。經過我們對他無微不至的照顧，他終於不再瘦了。可是，他有點調皮和害怕。在旺角逗留了五個月，他最後在二月初被領養。

另一隻白兔叫Britney，雌性；她的長毛令她看似一隻獅子。她被遺棄在我們旺角診所的樓梯，並被放在垃圾袋內。她和Kobe一樣沒有甚麼大礙。她很善良和溫柔，對我們的獸醫也很好。她最後於二月中被領養。

DIET

Grass hay (e.g. Timothy Hay) is one of the most important parts of your pet’s diet. Hay should be provided at all times in your pet’s cage.

Remember that rabbits are designed to live primarily on a diet of grasses and leaves; therefore grass hay can provide a good portion of that diet.

Green foods are equally as important as hay in the rabbit’s diet.

Water should always be available, and changed daily.

ENVIRONMENT

House rabbits should never be kept completely confined to a cage. Exercise is vital for the health of the rabbit.

A cage can be used as a home base for part of the day or it can be open all the time within an exercise area. The cage should allow the rabbit to stand up on its hind legs without hitting the top of the cage, provide a resting area and space for a litter box.

If you are going to allow your pet free access to your house you need to bunny-proof it. Block all escape routes, cover or block access to electrical, phone and computer cords, cover furniture to protect it from the rabbit’s teeth and claws and remove access to toxic plants, rodenticides, insecticides and other toxic materials.

COMMON MEDICAL ISSUES

Desexing This can be carried out at 4 months in both male and females.

Dental Disease Can occur at the incisors or the molar teeth. Often will show up as inappetance with saliva drooling. A good fibre-based diet can often be preventative.

Diarrhoea Actually rare in rabbits but often get a mixture of soft and normal stools at the same time. Usually relates to poor diet and lack of sufficient fibre. Of more concern is no faeces at all. Consult your vet immediately if you notice this problem. 日 常 飲 食兔子的日常食糧應以乾草(例如Timothy Hay)為主，牠們的籠子內需要經常供應著。兔子的腸胃天生是要以草、葉植物類作食物，所以牠們的每一餐大部份都要必須有足夠的草、葉食物。綠色植物類也跟乾草一樣的重要,它們可以包含多類的微量營養素以及重要的水份補充兔子的身體所需。食水也是需要經常地供給兔子，每一天也必須更換一次。

環 境家兔不應該經常被困在籠子內，適量的運動對兔子的健康有著很大的幫助。籠子可以用作是暫時性的屋子，或者可以把籠門打開讓兔子可以走在可活動的範圍內做運動舒展一下。籠子的高度要准許兔子用後腳站起時不會撞到頭部，有休息的地方也有上廁所的地方。如果你打算讓你的兔子在家中任我行的話，必須清楚考慮所有牠們可以接觸的物件都能通過安全兔的測試。所有可以逃跑的線路都應加以路障，蓋上或是阻止兔子接觸到所有電線，傢俱是兔子牙齒和爪子最愛的物件要加以保護。所有帶毒性的植物、殺虫劑、滅鼠劑等也要移至安全的地方。

常 見 醫 療 問 題絕育 雄性或雌性的兔子在4個月大的時候已經可以絕育。牙科疾病 牙科疾病可以發生在兔子的門牙或是臼齒，牠們都一般都會顯示出食慾大減和流出唾液的徵 狀。以纖維成份較高的食糧可以作一個牙齒護理以及預防牙科疾病，如果需要治療的話將要 加以麻醉及相應的牙科手術。腹瀉 兔子很少會有腹瀉，但很多時大便中混有正常和較軟的便便。一般都是由於差的飲食和缺少 足夠的纖維。而較嚴重的就是沒有排出大便。如有這類情況，請立即帶你的兔子往獸醫查。

新年過後，你家裡可能還有不同的盆栽，包括百合花；但百合花對貓是有害的，只要兩塊百合花葉便能令到貓的肝臟出問題。所以不要讓你家的貓接觸到百合花！
