Josephine Auchterlonie has a bright futurein her sights, after earning the 2015-2016Civilian Marksmanship Program YouthScholarship.

The sharpshooter earned the $1,000scholarship with her marksmanship, gradepoint average, and merit.

"It’s a pretty big deal. It took a lot of hardwork," said Auchterlonie, who also achievedthe rank of Distinguished Expert in theWinchester/National Rifle Association'sMarksmanship Qualification Program and anOakland County Sportsman's Club JuniorRifle Program Scholarship.

Her grandfather, Harry Goodell of Springfield Township, introduced her to thesport of competitive rifle shooting about five

years ago, though she has been shooting allher life.

"In general, ever since I could hold agun," she said. "It’s a really unique sort. Nota lot of people are in it."

"I’m proud of her," Goodell said. "I'vebrought her here (to the sportsmen's club)every Monday night, and Port Huron formatches.”

Council she was protecting attorney-clientprivileged information when refusing to answerCNews questions regarding calls from the cityattorney.

“In Phil Custodio's column this week ("Knowledge is power," May 6), he took um-

The Michigan Press Association said ques-tions regarding a city attorney's invoice are righton target.

"What the government spends money on,

like on legal bills, is a very valid question," saidMPA Attorney Jennifer Dukarski “The mediahas always been the bastion of transparencyand questions how the government is spend-ing taxpayer money. Without the media, therewould be no transparency and the governmentwould have no accountability to taxpayers.”
