    NewJerseyandOklahomajoin13otherstatestoprovideleadershipinthedesignanddevelopmentofthePARCCassessmentsystemWASHINGTONApril15,2011ThePartnershipforAssessmentofReadinessfor

    CollegeandCareers(PARCC)ispleasedtoannouncethatNewJerseyand

    OklahomahavebecomethemostrecentstatestojointhePARCCGoverning

    Board.BothstateswerealreadyactiveParticipatingStates,andbybecoming

    GoverningBoardStatesareassumingmoreleadershipwithinthe25state

    alliance.

    StatecollaborationisahallmarkoftheconsortiumandPARCCwillbenefit

    greatlyfromtheadditionofNewJerseyandOklahomatotheGoverningBoard,

    saidMitchellChester,CommissionerofEducationinMassachusettsandChairof

    thePARCCGoverningBoard.

    ThePartnershipsassessmentsystemwillmeasureanambitioussetofK12

    learninggoalsanchoredintheCommonCoreStateStandards(CCSS). PARCCs

    highschoolassessmentswillbedevelopedincollaborationwithhighereducation

    andwillsignaltostudentswhethertheyarereadyforentrylevelcollegecourses.

    ThePARCCassessmentswillalsobecomputerbasedinordertomaximize

    technologyanddeliverfasterturnaroundofstudentresults. Finally,statesin

    PARCCwilladoptcommonperformancestandardsthatwillallowpolicymakersto

    compareresultsacrossstates.

    PARCCisanallianceof25statesworkingtogethertodevelopcommonassessmentsservingmorethan31million

    studentsnearly63%ofK12studentsattendingAmericanpublicschool.PARCCsworkisfundedthroughafour

    year,$185milliondollargrantfromtheU.S.DepartmentofEducation.Partnersincludeabout200highereducation

    institutionsand systems representingnearly1,000 campusesacross the country thatwillhelpdevelop thehigh

    school componentof thenewassessmentand thenput it togooduseasan indicatorof student readiness.

    PARCC is ledby itsmember statesandmanagedbyAchieve,anonprofitgroupwitha15year track recordof

    workingwithstatesto improvestudentachievementbyaligningK12educationpolicieswiththeexpectationsof

    employersandthepostsecondarycommunity. PARCCsultimategoal istomakesureallstudentsgraduatefrom
