HM Producing Two Albums

In June, Heavenly Melody recorded a new album, Make my Life a Miracle. Additionally, the men’s trio—Daniel

Hsieh, Solomon Lin and Johnny Wen—recorded Farther Along. Walt Harrah, songwriter and arranger, helped Heavenly Melody in these recordings. Pray that their music touches hearts of people and ministers to their needs. To date, Heavenly Melody has produced 19 original albums and other recordings in English, Mandarin, Taiwanese, German and Portuguese.

More Rallies for the Sunshine Singers

From January to June 2006, Studio Classroom teachers and the Sunshine Singers held more than 50 school rallies

in 15 cities throughout Taiwan, reaching more than 48,000 students. “Making Good Choices” and “Life Is a Gift” were the themes of the programs. By using inspirational songs and thought-provoking skits such as “The Two Builders,” based on Matthew 7:24-27, the group encouraged students to make wise choices with the gift of life they have been given.

We received good responses from both stu-dents and teachers, many of whom were very moved by our programs. One student wrote, “The subject, making good choices, provides food for thought. It is much more important than anything, even including studying...As the song sings,‘[Life] is so precious. Treasure it every day.’ I will treasure this precious memory every moment.”

Praise God for the freedom and opportunities we have to proclaim His love to so many young minds!

Taiwan Missionary Conference in July

Missionaries from around Taiwan gathered in Taichung for the annual Taiwan Missionary Fellowship Conference from July 3-8. ORTV is often invited to help lead a special dedication service. This year, Doris, Linda Ludwig, Pam Osment, Zorina London and the Sunshine Singers ministered at the conference. Pray for the missionaries who were challenged with a greater love for God and the people of Taiwan.

Chinese Christians Gather for Macau Conference

From July 17-22, Doris, Heavenly Melody and several staff from ORTV will travel to Macau to attend the 7th Chinese Coordination Center of World Evangelization (CCCOWE) conference. Held every five years, this year’s conference celebrates the 200th anniversary of Robert Morrison’s arrival in China. Chinese Christian leaders around the world will gather to explore how they can reach more people with the Gospel. Doris has been invited to speak on using English education to preach the Gospel. Over 2500 people plan to attend the conference. On July 23, Heavenly Melody will hold an evangelistic meeting jointly with Macau churches.

2006 Summer Interns

From June to August, 12 young people will intern at ORTV. Jennifer Chen, Luke Harbour, Anthony Wang, Gina Wang, Jennifer Wang, as well as staff children Franny Huang, Wendy Hung, Jack Kao, Debbie Lin, Timothy Tao, David Wang, and Luke Wang join Kristine Peterson to work in the Audio, English and Music Departments. We pray that these young people not only learn new skills, but also grow in relationship with the Lord and mature during their time here.

Training Leaders in Albania

From June 2-11, Pastor Dale Wine and ORTV staff member Hazel Johansen traveled to Korce, Albania, to help Radio Emmanuel

and Mission Emmanuel Church. Pastor Dale had meetings with church leaders, and Hazel conducted English-teaching and creativity lessons. Radio Emmanuel, whose coverage extends into eastern Albania and parts of Greece and Macedonia, is the first, and also Albania’s only Christian radio station. Pre-tuned, portable radios have been distributed to remote areas, enabling listeners to receive Emmanuel Radio Station broadcasts of Let’s Talk in English. Mission Emmanuel Church ministers to the gypsies as well as local people. ORTV supports both Radio Emmanuel and Mission Emmanuel Church.

Testimonies and Letters

Hi, I’m a student from Taipei First Girls’ Senior High School. Our class had the opportunity to see a performance by the Studio Classroom teachers today, and I just want to tell you that you really inspired me. I’m a senior. Therefore, I’m currently under a lot of pressure due to the upcoming university entrance exams. For weeks, even months, I have been depressed because of my poor grades and my lack of

confidence. Instead of working hard, I was giving up. I thought that I would be a failure, a disappointment to my family, but today, you changed that. Through your games, stories and short plays, I understood that my grades are only a small part of me; they don’t define who I am as a person. I know now that no matter what happens, my mum and God will always love me, and today was a sign of God’s love, because He sent you to me in my greatest hour of need. Thank you so much, Studio Classroom.

Best wishes, Sal

I have been studying Studio Classroom for about ten years and still benefit a lot from it. When I was in high school, I didn’t have money to go to cram schools like my other classmates. I learned English via the radio (Let’s Talk in English) and worked until midnight studying English with it. Even though in the beginning I wasn’t interested in learning English that much,

the magazine opened another window for me—experience through news and culture articles and stories. What’s more, from the teachers, I also learned to have a good attitude when studying. Every time I hear teacher Vickie say “Students, keep up the good work,” I pluck up my courage again to face my laziness and frustration under the high pressure of examinations.

Pei-yi Su, 2nd year graduate student, National Cheng Kung University

On May 6, 2006, I entered the Mother’s Day English Speech Contest in Los Angeles and won a participant prize from Studio Classroom. That day, more than 40 mothers and grandmothers took part in the competition. I thought that I was the oldest one among them. However, there was actually another grandmother who was twelve years older than me. How exciting it was! Studio Classroom

provided the opportunity for us to speak English and gave me my best gift. I was highly honored. It was not for the gift itself that I was grateful, but for the encouragement that it gave me to speak English in order to live a more enjoyable life in America. The competition was a precious and priceless experience. Now, I would like to express my deep gratitude to Studio Classroom for the opportunity you have given me. Thanks!

Meifang Lu, 70 years old

Pressing OnT

he mission of Overseas Radio and Television, Inc. is to share the Gospel with people around the world using mass media. In the past, our focus has been on the Chinese, but with radio, TV and the Internet

now reaching nearly every corner of the earth, our vision has expanded. We want to reach every person we can with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

This year holds special meaning for ORTV. It is the 46th anniversary of Overseas Radio and Television, and the 43rd anniversary of Heavenly Melody, our music ministry group that travels around the world reaching people for Jesus. In addition, our new Beijing office will open this summer, and we look forward to helping more Chinese learn English.

When ORTV co-founder Doris Brougham was just 12, she made a commitment to God to become a missionary to the Chinese. At 21, Doris sailed from Seattle to China, saying goodbye to family, friends, and her own plans as she began a journey of faith. Still going strong and pressing on toward the upward goal, Doris’ life, ministry and dedication are an inspiration to us all.

This August, Doris celebrates her 80th birthday and 59 years of faithful service as a missionary, educator, teacher and servant of God. We thank the Lord for our leader and continue to pray that God uses Doris, ORTV, Heavenly Melody and each one of us to preach the Good News around the world.
