日本Tweed矯正歯科研究会 第11回大会

本年10月25日（日）に、連合会館にて、第11回日本Tweed矯正歯科研

究会大会を開催致します。前回に続いてアメリカ本部からクロンツ先生、ベイドン先生の二大巨頭が来日し、講演していただきます。さらに今回は、その後のPre-Tucsonコースの3日間もお二人に指導を頂きます。今まで20年間に渡り、本部の協力を得て本会も発展してきましたが、今後もさらに親交を深め、エッジワイズ法の基本であるTweed Philosophyを、多くの矯正家にご理解頂くよう広めてゆきたいと思います。 ぜひ皆さんが多くの症例を持ち寄って、にぎやかな症例展示とし、そこから臨床の糧となるようなものを持ち帰っていただければと思っております。多数の会員のご出席をお待ちしております。

Tweed Foundation and Tweed Study Course History with Personal Remembrances of Tweed & Merrifield Herb Klontz The Charles H. Tweed Foundation has a long and colorful history. Its history is important to the specialty of orthodontics and to the future of the specialty. This presentation will attempt to show the relevance of this colorful history to today’s specialty. Dr. Klontz worked with Tweed & Merrifield when these men were Co-Directors of the Tweed Study Course. After Tweed’s death, he worked closely with Merrifield for the next thirty years. He spent a lot of time with both men. He will share some personal stories which will give the listener some insight into the personality and character of each of these giants in orthodontics. Goals and Concepts Revisited Jim Vaden The fundamentals of orthodontics are extremely important. They must be used during the treatment planning and during the treatment of each malocclusion. This presentation will review these fundamentals that are so important to the specialty. Balance and Harmony of the Face Herb Klontz Balance and harmony of the face is a fundamental goal of orthodontic treatment. Every patient who has a malocclusion which adversely impacts his/her facial esthetics desires to have pleasing facial proportion as a result of treatment. This presentation will present the prerequisites for balance and harmony of a face. Case reports that illustrate diagnostic and treatment planning concepts that insure facial balance and harmony will be a significant part of the presentation. Maxillary First, Mandibular Second Premolar Extraction Treatment Jim Vaden Many Class II malocclusions can be best corrected with the removal of the maxillary first and mandibular second premolars. The diagnostic parameters that make this the best treatment plan choice will be explained. The force systems that have been developed to treat this extraction pattern will be presented and explained. Maxillary and Mandibular First Premolar Extraction Treatment Herb Klontz The first premolar extraction pattern is ideal for the correction of the crowded and/or protruded malocclusion. Case reports and the recently revised force systems that are used to correct this type of malocclusion will be shown. The presentation will focus on the face, the skeletal pattern and the teeth. The favorable impact first premolar extraction can have on each of these components of a malocclusion will be carefully explained.

Herbert Klontz Herbert Klontz has been a private practitioner in Orthodontics from 1962 to present. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at The Oklahoma Health and Science Center. Herb has been on the teaching staff of the Charles H. Tweed International Foundation for Orthodontic research since 1967. He became the Tweed Study Course Director in 1983. For over forty years Herb has lectured and taught the Tweed-Merrifield Philosophy and Force Systems throughout the world. Herb has recently elevated Jim Vaden to CO-Director with him of the Tweed Study Course. James L. Vaden James L. Vaden has been a private practitioner in Cookeville, Tennessee since 1972. During his professional career, he has been privileged to serve as Director of The American Board of Orthodontics, as the Commissioner for orthodontics for the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and as a member of various AAO standing committees and councils. In addition to his private practice, Jim has been active as a hobby educator and has been a clinical professor at the University of Tennessee since 1980. He served as the Professor and Chairman of Orthodontics from 1999 until 2010. He also served as an adjunct clinical professor from 1991 to 1999 in Department of Orthodontics at the University of Michigan. Dr. Vaden has been active with the Charles Tweed Foundation and the Tweed Study Course since 1976. He has been an Assistant Course Director since 1988. In October of 2012 Jim was elevated to CO-Director with Herb Klontz of the Tweed Study Course.
