Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) Child and Youth Programs (CYP) received the “The Better Sports for Kids Quality Program

Provider” redesignation on Jan. 8 for the period from 2020 to 2021, their second consecutive designation, which began in 2018.

Before receiving the redesignation, the CFAY CYP program was evaluated in the following categories: Written Policies and Procedures, Volunteer Screening, Coach Training, Parent Education, and Accountability.

Kristi Moses, CYP installation director, agreed that the re-designation is definitely a “direct reflection on the hard work and commitment to the program.”

After passing a four-step standards review process set by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS), the award demonstrates CFAY CYP staff, and their Sailor and civilian volunteers, are fully committed to the safety-based standards for 2,300 children participants from the Yokosuka and Ikego communities.

“The most popular programs available for eligible children include soccer, basketball, and baseball,” said Roshawn Terry, CFAY Youth Sports and Fitness coordinator.

“The most popular programs available for eligible children include soccer, basketball, and baseball,” said Roshawn Terry, CFAY Youth Sports and Fitness coordinator. “All programs incorporate children from all over the Kanto Plain of Japan.”

“Being OCONUS, it speaks to how we act as good neighbors with other military personnel and incorporate those bases in the Kanto Plain region into our leagues and tournaments,” stated Moses. “All of this has a lot to do with the Youth Sports and Fitness coordinator.”

For 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet’s forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families.
