    I N F O C U S

    Regional Cooperation a Focal Pointin LOGMOS Pilo t Project s> Since start of the LOGMOS projectin late April 2011, the regionalapproach has been chosen as afactor of success to channel the EUsupport of the TRACECA Countriesin development of modern logisticsand motorways of t he sea initiatives.

    The three years envisaged for theimplementation of the LOGMOSprojects will be devoted to theimplementation support of the pilotinitiatives in the TRACECA countriesidentified by the beneficiary countries inthe past two years with the support of the EU technical assistance projectsfocused on logistics and Motorways of the Sea.

    The LOGMOS team has prepared 16action plans for selected pilot projects toset the concrete steps devoted todevelopment of efficient links andsupply chain corridors between

    TRACECA countries and towards theEU member-states.

    For each of the pilot project astakeholder task force works onimplementation of the action planmeasures. The LOGMOS technicalassistance team facilitates theseactivities by technical advice, promotion

    of interactive dialogue, exploringfeasibility of initiatives and byorganization of the stakeholdermeetings.

    The first meeting for the action plans inthe Black Sea Countries was organizedon 4-5 J uly 2011. The meeting adoptedan Action Plan as a basis fordevelopment of the Motorways of theSea Pilot Initiatives in that region.

    The next regional meeting for theCaucasus and Central Asia regional willtake place in Tbilisi on 3-5 October

    2011. The action plans devoted to theestablishment of container trains,logistics centres and improved maritimeservices on the Caspian Sea will bediscussed. The representatives of the

    public and private sector will join theirefforts in elaboration of the concretesteps aimed towards improvement in

    TRACECA logistics process.

    A new domain for TRACECA that isbeing investigated under this contract isthe impact on inland waterway onimprovement of container transportationand logistics. The aim is to explore thepotential of the available capacity on

    TRACECA waterways in order to shift toor to generate new traffic flows oninland waterways. This mode has apotential to improve transport chainperformance in the regional trade.

    Inland shipping being not fully utilized in TRACECA is also a cleaner mode of transport that helps reduce the level of pollutant emissions.A fact finding mission has been carriedout by the project team. The first resultswill be published in October 2011.

    Together with this the project team hasstarted updating country profiles onlogistics and motorways of the seaissues to serve as a basis for the

    regional LOGMOS Master Plans. Theinformation will be made availableonline at the project webpage.

    The team started working on

    preparation of investment projectproposals for Georgia and Armenia tobe presented at the TRACECAInvestment Forum in 2012.
