There are 44 remaining kofun including the world's largest ancient tumulus, Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun and many large zempo- koenfun (keyhole-shaped tumuli). About the Mozu Tumulus Cluster Mozu-sanryo (Three Great Tumuli of Mozu) Nintoku-tenno-ryo Kofun The largest keyhole-shaped tumulus in Japan, with its mound 486m long. It seems to have been built in the late 6th century. Hanzei-tenno-ryo Kofun Located in the northern end of Mozu-sanryo. It seems to have been constructed in the mid 5th century. Richu-tenno-ryo Kofun The 3rd largest tumulus in Japan with its mound 365m long. It seems to have been built in the early 5th century. More than 120 kofun, ancient tumuli, were constructed from the late 4th century to the mid 6th century. There are 45 remaining kofun. Seven of them are huge and their mound lengths exceed 200m.

About the FruichiTumulus Cluster

Ojin-tenno-ryo KofunThis is the second largest kofun in Japan with its mound length of 425m. This kofun uses the largest volume of soil in Japan. It seems to have been constructed in the early 5th century.
