PREFACE
Because of the rapid changes in technology, the study of statistics must undergosignificant changes. Our teaching methods must be re-evaluated to incorporate thetechnology to help students understand probability and statistical concepts that arepresented to them. The enclosed statistical explorations are designed for any
elementary statistics course. These explorations use theMINITAB
forWindowssoftware to alleviate much of the computational drudgery, thus enabling the students toconcentrate on the discovery, application, and reinforcement of the concepts presentedin their lectures.
The primary goal of these explorations is to implement the use of technology in theteaching of any elementary statistics course. It is hoped that the use of theseexplorations will encourage students to learn through discovery in a relaxedenvironment.
This book contains sixteen explorations (0 - 15) and cover a wide range of topics foundin any elementary statistics course. These explorations present topics in sequence aswould be found in any elementary statistics text. However, the instructor can decide on
the appropriate order for his/her course.
TheMINITABfor Windowssoftware was chosen because of the combination of itspower and ease with which the students can learn to use it. Also, since theMINITABsoftware is used in about 70%of all fortune 500 companies, it is important that
students have hands-on experience with it. Each exploration includes a review

It would be beneficial to the students if they work in pairs when working on theseexplorations since the discussions that occur as they work will help them tounderstand the concepts with which they are dealing.
