FRENCH EXCHANGE PROGRAMME TO LYCEE GUY
MOLLET, ARRAS AND FRENCH LANGUAGE & CULTURAL
COURSE AT CIEL, BREST, FRANCE
REPORT - 2016
Mayo College contingent comprising 6 students, Keerti Vardhan Singh, Naraditya Singh Naruka,
Anmaya Agarwal, Aryan Jain, Ishit Garg and Vedant Chhetri escorted by Mr Kunal Kumar, French
Teacher participated in the Exchange Programme at the school Lycée Guy Mollet & for French
Language Courses in CIEL, Brest, France from 25 May to 15 June 2016. Through this, students were
exposed to an intensive programme that increased their understanding of other cultures,
communities and languages and broadened their horizon.
It was a 21 day programme as the boys left for France on the 25th of May and returned to India on
15th
June 2016 during that time they also spent 7 in Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam
The contingent started their journey with an eight hour long flight from New Delhi to Amsterdam and
then from Amsterdam to Paris. It was followed by a train journey from Charles de Gaulle, the airport
in Paris for Arras and it took only 50 mins to cover around 200 Kms. The French host families had
come to receive their correspondents at the Arras Railway station.

At the Arras Railway station the contingent was warmly welcomed by French correspondents &
their families.
After the initial greetings and introductions Mr Thierry Larivier and Madame Karine Chapron led all
the students to the office of the Principal, Vice Principals and Bursar. Followed up of a campus tour
and information about the school.
The students had lunch at the school canteen along with their French correspondents. It was for
the first time that the Indian students had a taste of the French cuisine inside a French school. They
were amazed by the professional manner in which the whole canteen was managed right from
picking up plates to giving the plates back at the dish washing area and by the ever smiling and
helpful staff of the canteen.
They attended the French school and studied some of their subjects like History, Mathematics,
Physics, French and Philosophy. The medium of instructions were in French Language only.
The school had organized a programme at Richebourg cemetery where the Prime Minister of India,
Shri Narendra Modi had also gone to pay homage to the Indian soldiers last year. We also paid
homage to the Indian soldiers along with the First Secretary from the Indian Embassy, Paris and
Mayors of Richebourg, Arras and some other dignitaries. Everyone was waving the Indian & French
flags and also sang the Indian and French national anthems. Some letters written by the Indian
soldiers to their families & friends were read by the teachers and students. The delegation had a
formal welcome at the Town Hall of Richebourg after the ceremony at the Cemetery. The
Presentation on Mayo and India was presented by the students of Mayo College.
FRENCH LANGUAGE & CULTURE COURSE AT CIEL, BREST, FRANCE 29 MAY – 8 JUNE 2016
The delegation left Arras on 29th May and reached Brest that afternoon. There, they were received
by the host families at the railway station and they took them to their home and there after
showed them some of the important places of the city.
During the next 9 days, the students attended 4-8 hours of rigorous classes every day and had
some cultural & linguistic visits during the afternoon, all in French. The medium of instructions was
the French Language. The course had been especially designed for the delegates and it focused
more on oral proficiency. The students also practiced on oral proficiency during the lessons and
outside the classroom. Including activities like interacting with pedestrians to get the some forms
filled in.

VISIT TO THE SIGHTS OF PARIS,BRUSELLES & AMSTERDAM
The three days visit to Paris made our séjour en France complete. In Paris the students visited the
famous monuments like Tour Eiffel, Notre Dame, Château de Versailles, Musée de Louvre etc. and
streets like Champs Elysées. This was time for shopping and buying some souvenirs for friends &
family. Our visit coincided with the Euro cup being organized in France and we got to see it
excitement around everywhere in Paris.
Also, the students got a chance to stay 2 days at the capital of the world’s best chocolates, Brussels’s
and visited the Head Quarter of European Union, Grande Place, Maaneken-Pis, Mini Europe and
Atomium etc.
The Exchange programme got over with 2 days stay at lively city of Europe, Amsterdam. The
students took a boat ride and went through the whole city. They had a taste of world’s most
delicious French fries as people queued up to buy it. They visited Rijks Museum, Madame Tussauds
wax museum a n d thrilled filled Amsterdam Dungeon, the fear factor.
It was a proud moment to see the report of the success of this exchange program the leading
newspapers, “La Voix de Nord” & French radio in France.
