Inspiration: Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture are building a high-density, car-free "satellite city" for 80,000 people from scratch in a rural location close to Chengdu and plan to replicate model in other parts of China.
People are open to new options Millennials and retired baby boomers don’t want to live in the suburbs People want to live next to their friends Urban walkable cities and lyft-able neighborhoods are becoming too expensive But… existing cities have very strong network effects.
Seeding a Network Effect Use Kickstarter to bring 500 creators to the city at the same time.
Musicians, Visual Artists, Chefs, Filmmakers, Graphic Artists, Remote Workers, Yoga
Instructors, Freelancers, Writers, Architects, Meditation teachers, Software engineers,
Massage Therapists, Makers, etc.
Phase 1: First 500 Residents
0/ Build founding team and community of people interested in what we’re doing. 1/ Rent an RV-campground and host week-long retreat (March). 2/ Use Kickstarter to get 500 people to commit to one month living at an RV-campground (June). 3/ Master lease with option to purchase the RV-campground in off-season and host six month event starting in September. 4/ Once campground is fully occupied, execute option to purchase campground and purchase options on surrounding farmland.
Phase 2: Grow into a Satellite City
Develop farmland surrounding kudavi forest Becomes hub for remote and creative work Car-free city Co-housing (living in tribes) 24/7 Bus transportation to nearby cities
Business model: Landlord + Bank 1/ Rent out pieces of land with power/water/sewer hookups and provide high-speed internet. 2/ Provide financial services to residents that want to start new businesses and/or borrow money to build homes, buildings & infrastructure. 50,000 residents = $600M ARR
Founding team, key skills needed: 1/ Operations 2/ Community 3/ Marketing 4/ Product -- 5/ We will recruit a real estate person onto the team once we prove the model.
