WOODEN COMMUNITY HOUSE IN VUORES Category \ SCHOOL WORKS

Vuores located at the borderline of Tampere and Lempäälä is one of the biggest and most interesting city building projects at the 21st century in Finland.

The area is situated in the south-ern part of the housing fair area (year 2012), between the central square of the area(“Taatanaukio”) and the cen-tral park of Vuores. Buildings around it are two-storey and the residents of this area drive throughthe central square. The housing fair area, “Virolainen”, will be a compact garden city for 600 citizens, where every block is connected to park or outdoor recreation ground. In zoning map 300 m2 is indicated for building floor area at the competition building lot.

The site for square is situated on unusual place, because it is not in the heartbeat of town but on periphery. The situation is compli-cated by road crossing the square. Square should be mainly for people, not for car. Anyway, we have to do it. Push the square on the same height like sidewalk. Square will not be di-vided to the two small parts. Cars will have to go slowly, because they have to cross “retarder” and easily feel that is a different space not only curve. In the center I put cylinder which works like orientation, meeting point and mainly like sensitive and intuitive solution for people and driv-ers because the way is clear without special corridors /at night drivers will be following lights between pavement/

Square is not only place. It is a space. When do we use simple master planning rules /what is road, street, square?/ Square starts to be square when it is 3 dimensional. Ac-cording to this reasons I designed basic volume of house. This volume is bigger than we need for rooms but we have to use this space for /terraces, semi-spaces/ different spaces between inside and outside. Finland is a country where there are often used glazed terraces because everywhere is awesome nature but weather is not convient and this kind of spaces allow and offer new kind of spending time. Next steps of design are visible on small illustrations at the board. The most visible is game with height. The biggest floor areas and spaces need more than classical 3 meters so I designed them accord-ing to their function. The second vis-ible things are atriums. They helped to lead the natural light to every rooms which they nedded.

Construction is simple wooden skel-etal structure. All layers are precisiely described in detail.

SITE

Site is located in the center of Tampere, few meters near the crossing main traffiics and pedestrians ways. Park and small gallery is situated at present. Current

gallery wasn t designed like a exhibition space/gallery/museum and probably thats the reason of not really good position on the site in park. Gallery is almost

invisible, hidden by trees because volume of this building is quite small. This fact is forced by residental buildings around the site. Architecture in Finland is very

young comparing to other countries in Europe and thats the reason why historical architecture should be more protected . This building is one of the examples.

Site is rounded by ways but definitevely the biggest potencial incomporable to another has the southern.

ART MUSEUMS

For us, people, when love art and everything around is visitation of museums, galleries, etc. quite common, but try to ask your “normal” :-) friends how many times

visited museum or when it was last time. you wil be surprised! For many people art is something unimportant for wierd people is usualy placed to monumental

closed architecture. It s totaly opposite than commercial building which want to get people inside. Big outlays work everywhere :-)

IDEA

my idea is based on solutions to these problems or tasks. We can t move the old gallery, but we can design volumes which one will frame and guide. I used basic

components of architecture-groins/corners/crossroads for these function from southern street. Two of them are in the corners and the third is from cross-road.

Park is divided by many pedestrian ways in grass. Why will not use this fact for solution of museum? People will be crossing park and leisurely in the same time

will be in museum. Visiting of museum will be one of part their lives!

LIGHTING

Exhibition spaces use natural light as much as possible according to “lighting analyses”. Outlays aren t open to south because its not friendly to all the types of

exhibits within two volumes on the southern border . These spaces should be served for mainly big sculptures which can be visible from the most important

street and will not be destroyed.

CONSTRUCTION

Combined walls and pilars system from reinforced concrete. Construction of roofing slopes was consulted with civil enengineer specializated in concrete and

steel constructions and she recommended me prestressed concrete slab 400 mm. Slabs are technicaly divided to triangle slabs resting on three sides/22meters.

Finland therefore also all Tampere is characterizedby beautifull nature which we can not see everywhere, nevertheless they are used very rarely. Why?

My analysis of parks in Tampere is deduced frompark analysis of big cities all over the world. On the pictureyou can see the map of a city, aerial view and a photo of apark. The nature (greenery and water elements) ishighlighted in green colour. The situation is almost the sameeverywhere, high building density and only rarely we can seebigger green areas. These areas present the parks. In thepictures of it is evident that people use them, although theyform only a small part of nature. This lack of green areas inthe cities is the cause why people use them so frequently. The necessity to be part of the nature is a human needwhich has always been here and is going to be here in thefuture as well. Looking at the pictures of Tampere we cansee almost the inverse situation. The greenery and lakes arealmost everywhere and that is why parks in the town are notused. It is just a duplication of a purpose which is aroundthe city everywhere. Tampere is a park.

I suggest to keep the nature untouched and virgin on the periphery, because it is definitely one of the great values that Finland has. Artificial parks in centers have to fulfil their purposes (sport, cultural, etc.). The substantial thing is to offer people something they haven´t got yet. Defenitely it is not the greenery itself.

Function

The first task therefore is to incorporate elements and functions to this area which should attract people. These functions change very quickly and thus it is difficult to project a concrete area. But if we use the system of modules 3x3x6 mof a rectangle and triangle profile we will get a construction which we can modify in its case and also in its total composition.

Transportation

Any kinds of function need to have a systems of supply, transportation and parking. This needs capacity are considerable and need fast transportation through the whole Hameenpuisto. In this area we won´t find a place which would function well and would not limit peoples movement. That is why I would like to place them under the ground. I design always two fast lane roads in each direction which provide fast and smooth traffic and one slower lane road which serve for acces, departure or joining the parking (viz the picture). The situation is complicated in case of four rows of trees which are situated planted, from the beginning to the end. Fortunately they are almost plant with a geometrical exactness and thus in the designed construction (viz the picture) we can leave the trees as they are. Of course this leads to higher construction costs. How many, where and which of them should be kept is not in my decision making competency. My solution however enables to choose any kind of solution which depends on the amount invested.

Park

The park will stay on its place, in addition it won´t be divided, dissected and it will bring many types of views and perspectives . It only moves to the new roof of the construction/ structure.

My project deals with Hameenpuisto.Hameenpuisto is an exact example of a park in thecenter which doesn´t work (viz. Tampere park). Thecurent situation is even worse due to the transportcorridor which goes on both sides through of the wholeHameenpuisto. The recent situation is not convenient foranybody - cars cannot pass too quickly and easily. Thewhole line of the park is divided into small areas, thusfrom the entire park is left with small useless andineffectively used rectangles.

My task is to suggest a proposal which eliminatesthese problems and which should be convenient for both, people and transportation.

Tím jsme odstranili problém s nároným a stresujícím pejíždním pes celé msto pi pevážení dtí do vzdálenjších mateských škol a následné cest do práce a stejn tak pi cest z práce.
