The North Wind and the Sun (Aesop)

Once upon a time, The North Wind and the Sun had a discussion. The North Wind said "I am stronger than you" and the Sun said, "That is not true." So, to solve the problem, the Sun had an idea: "Do you see that kid? He has a coat on. The first to remove his coat is the strongest." "OK", said the North Wind.

The North Wind began to blow and blow with all his strength, but the kid felt cold and closed his coat.

Then, it was the Sun's turn. The Sun began to shine with all her warmth and light, so suddenly it was very hot. The kid looked at the Sun and took his coat off.

The Milkmaid and Her PailA milkmaid was walking along with a pail of milk on her head, singing happily as she went. She was thinking of the money she would get for selling the milk in the market.

“Let me see,” she said to herself. “Here are eight liters of milk, and with the money I get for it I can buy fifty eggs. The fifty eggs will give me fifty chickens. I will sell the chickens at the market. With the money I get from selling the chickens, I will buy a beautiful new dress. I think, I will buy a green one—yes, that’s what I’ll do. Then, I will wear it to church and all the young men will want me to be their girlfriend. But I won’t look at any of them—no, I won’t!”

She moved her head proudly, and the pail, which she had altogether forgotten, fell from her head and all the milk was spilled on the ground.

While Little Red Riding Hood picked some flowers, the wolf ran quickly to Grandmother’s house. And… he locked Grandmother inside a closet, put on her pajamas and got into her bed. Just then, Little Red Riding Hood came in the house. When she got closer to say hello she noticed something strange.

“What big eyes you have, Grandmother!” said Little Red Riding Hood.

“So I can see you, my dear!” said the wolf.

“What big ears you have, Grandmother!”
