Hongcun is a village in the historical Huizhou region of southern Anhui Province, China, near the

southwest slope of Mount Huangshan. Scenes from the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were

filmed on location in Hongcun.

宏村是安徽省南部歷史徽州地區的一個村莊，位於黃山西南坡附近。電影「臥虎藏龍」有些場景在宏村拍攝。

In order to keep away from fire and water plants, ancient people in the village created a water buffalo

shaped artificial water system during the Southern Song Dynasty. The water project makes Hongcun

Village more outstanding than other villages. Nowadays, the village has been one of the world’s

historical and cultural heritages because of the water system.

為了防火和遠離水生植物，南宋時期古村人創設了水牛形的人造水系。水系工程使得宏村比其他村莊更為突出。如今由於水系，該村已成為世界歷史文化遺產之一。

The geography of Hongcun Village looks like a lying ox. Leigang Hill at the west end of the village is the

head, two huge trees (poplar and ginkgo) are the horns and the villages itself form the body. The canal

system functions as its intestines and the central half-moon Yue Zhao pond is the stomach and the

larger South Lake the abdomen. The four bridges spanning the stream at the front of the village

represent the Ox’s legs.

宏村的地形是一頭臥牛。村西的雷崗山是頭部，兩棵大樹（楊樹和銀杏）是牛角，村莊就是身體。水圳系統是腸道，中央的月沼是胃，較大的南湖是腹部。橫跨村前小溪上的四座橋樑代表牛腿。

There are about 140 well-preserved ancient houses in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was a habitation

of people who had the same family name-Wang.

有140餘座保存完好明清時期的古民居。這是個汪氏家族的居住地。

Wandering among the ancient village, travelers can forget troubles and unhappiness quickly and enjoy

a quiet and peaceful countryside life.

遊客在古老的村莊漫遊，很快就忘記了煩惱和憂愁，享受著安靜祥和的鄉村生活。

This complex is on the north bank of

Southern Lake. It was built in 1814 when

six family schools that were there were

combined and rebuilt. The academy

covers an area of over 6,000 square

meters. The buildings are grand and

wide.

Moon Pond (Crescent-shape)

月沼 (半月形)

Located in the heart of Hongcun, the crescent-shaped Moon Pond is the Ox’s

stomach. It was built during Ming Dynasty (1403-1424). The Moon Pond is

green all the year around, like a bright mirror.

月沼位於宏村中心，是牛的胃。建於明朝 (1403-1424)。池中的水像是一面明鏡，終年都是綠色的。
